Myles
How about restricting the search to the last 15 days or so at the moment... ...would have thought that would lower the overhead while you wait for a fix whilst still leaving some search func. running... Frying Pan
I agree with Myles. To not have the search is going to be really difficult, and will be a huge loss to Blatchat. Surely lots of people will post the same questions that have already been answered. As a newbie (car on order, tool kit growing, garage morphing from tip to workshop), I'm certainly going to miss it... and ask a lot of questions that have already been asked before. May be worth posting a request for help upgrading the server hardware or whatever is causing the bottleneck... Must be someone on here who would be pleased to help. Site Manager
The problem is not with the hardware, it's with the software. The database is getting quite large and the nature of the search query is such that it slows the whole web server down, not just Blatchat. Be assured that I am working on a new version of Blatchat that should see the search facility restored.
Frying Pan
Thanks for the feedback! Glad it is something you think can be solved, as loss of search would be a major downer for the newbie community!
C7
Site Manager Can you give an update on progress re:new version of Blatchat with search facility restored? I echo everyone else's sentiments that Blatchat is one of the deepest fonts of all knowledge out there (not just 7 content!), and it will be fantastic news when it's reincarnated. Wishing you well with the development efforts. JimBean
Ninja Boy
Hi Barry, As a stopgap, how about this idea from this earlier topic: As a workaround/stopgap, maybe Barry could set up a static page (or a dedicated "sticky" topic) holding an index of hyperlinked useful topics, with keywords/titles alongside, so we could just CTRL-F to find what we were looking for (thereby using client-side processing power instead of hogging server-side resources, to get a bit technical). Not sure how easy it would be for you to dump an index? Steve-B
if you just use the pull down menu at the top of the web page you can go all the way back to when Barry reset the DB last year. that's 7 or 8 months of information you can see. yes it takes a bit longer. but you can search using F3 if using Internet Exploder and find the topic on the page that you're searching. then you've got a search facility remeber Barry has a job like the rest of us. we should be grateful he's here ❗ Steve Faster than the Speed of Dark here

Myles
Urm, I posted that suggestion a week or two back (different thread).... Shame the search facility isn't working, or you'd have found that post LOL though 😬 REgds, Myles
