fordy
please please please put the search facility back up. It was the most vast, interesting and incredibly useful technical resource available to Caterham owners. Its such a shame we lost that in favour of forums that spend all their time prattling away about nothing in particular etc... How about a nice compromise though..... Blatchat is lightly traffiked (?) as eveinings and especially weekends. Maybe the seach facility can only be accessed at certain times - say 6pm to 6am and all weekend. Or something like that........ Violet Elizabeth
Two alternate suggestions... a) Restrict the search to Techtalk ? b) Take your head out of your 🙆🏻
fordy
point a was a good one point b - some people might read that and question who really has there head up there 🙆🏻
Violet Elizabeth
True. Although probably not people who can fathom out that the removal of the search facility was not the sole fault of some people "prattling away about nothing in particular " as you so kindly put it. The removal of the search is as annoying to me as it is you. If this were the simple "answer" then why not delete all but the last few weeks posting in the test area (and the For Sale as well ), surely if it were that simple then Mr Site Manager would have done it ? Anyway, you are most welcome to come and prattle about nothing, everyone is welcome, and we are a friendly bunch

Tony Whitley
Caveat: I'm computer literate but have never played with databases... I assume that Search bogs down the PC used for the forum, slowing it down for everyone else... so how about investing a second PC for the search engine and keep a copy of the forum on this second PC. No need to keep the Search copy up-to-the-minute, just copy it once a day at a quiet time. Tony M1 7 SMW 1.4SS Lotus colours with cycle wings. Joe 90
I don't know how the forum is hosted, but I would try running the search at a lower priority than the main site. The search would be slowed down, but I don't see anyone complaining about that. Of course this is easier said than done on some operating systems. Ninja Boy
Oliver - "nice" idea (geddit? Sorry, that's a really poor geeky pun). Not sure if this is *nix, though... As a workaround/stopgap, maybe Barry could set up a static page (or a dedicated "sticky" topic) holding an index of hyperlinked useful topics, with keywords/titles alongside, so we could just CTRL-F to find what we were looking for (thereby using client-side processing power instead of hogging server-side resources, to get a bit technical ). It may not be elegant and fully-functional, but it's another fine product idea from Bodgit & Scarper Software Consultants Ltd... I know a few people bookmark useful topics, so let's share the knowledge... Anyone in favour? Maybe start a topic in the Test area, and see how it goes?
