    Dry sump

I think the pace sump pan is techically a better design than the Caterham pan in that it has two scavenge pickups, however I didn`t like the thought of the external 3 port oil pump being driven by a rather flimsy toothed belt. Loose this belt and your engine is instantly spoilt.

    Dry sump

I think you are in for a bit of a wait and hope you are ready for some serious spannering. From my chat with Pace at the Autosport show the system is still in a developement stage and will require quite a lot of work to install the system. One of the biggest jobs being removal of the engines oil pump internals " the Anulus and rotor" this will necessitate the removal of the Timing belt cover, crank pulley, timing belt, oil pump and blanking off of the existing oil feed gallery from the oil pump. Patience.
  3. I am looking for a tunnel top of a 96 onwards De Dion car. Must have handbrake facility and be in Vinyl.
  4. Caterham do not stock a wide range of springs. They probably have 250 lbs fronts and 215 rears. If you want 200 lbs try Deemon Theives or Miserable Motor Sport. Gary May at Juno also can supply. you will have no problem sourcing the fronts in the correct lenght 7" but the rears are more difficult as 13" length is ideal for the rear end AFAIK juno have these. If you go for 14" you end up with too much pre load to get to the correct ride height and 12" are too short. Rob.
  5. Hi Dale, A good result well done. I am interested in the Juno springs, can you give details of Lbs, free overall length & ID Cheers Rob.
  6. Its normal to have the rears lock up before the fronts with the standard brake setup. There is too much rear brake effort as compared to the front. There are two solutions fit the uprated front brakes or fit Pagid front pads and some cheap rear pads. If you search the archives this subject has been covered many times.
  7. The Caterham dry sump pan for the K is certainly more than a flat plate and it would not be easy to fabricate one. Sump pan also serves to clamp the bottom two bellhousing fixings to the engine. So no easy way apart from spend some money. Sorry.

    Noise

You shouldn`t have a problem except Goodwood on a quiet day SLR`s measure around 98dba at 4500 rpm static. This will even pass the Castle Coombe noise test. Enjoy!
  9. Pierre, I have a 40th Anniversary, what are the exact details of the paint code and what did you use as a primer??????????? Rob.
  10. You can always cut an access hole in the transmission tunnel and fit a large rubber gromet afterwards. I have always managed to fill my box using a length of 10mm micro bore copper tubing as used for central heating plumbing and a washing up bottle. It makes life easier to leave the gear box mount undone you can then move the box to one side in the tunnel and using a cut down 10mm allen key undo the filler plug. Its also easier if you heat the oil before attempting to poor it in.
  11. Oily isn`t there a guy called Dave Andrews that ports the odd K head ??????????
  12. EDB exhausts by design can sort you with the exhaust. It is necessary to change the ECU when fitting throttle bodies and here opens a can of worms, in that the ECU will have to operate the VVC mechanism. AFAIK there isn`t an ECU available that will do this at the moment, Karl at Emerald is working to this end but when it will be finished I don`t know. The only other option is to junk the VVC mechanism and fit some hot cams and a VVC blanking kit 200 ish BHP is then available.
  13. Its not a sealed battery and has two vents one on each end. If you do not block one vent off and install a length of tube to the other you run the risk under hard cornering /braking of electrolyte spilling out down into the battery tray and corroding the top of the footwell. I learn`t the hard way.
  14. Try Prodrive at Banbury they are the distributor and can service/check/ rebuild your dampers. Pricey mind.
  15. allen, I can`t think what you have done unless spec`d a very long spring coz I run with 2.25 X 7" springs with no problems. My dampers are the stock Bilstein with adjustable platforms. There is no problem inverting the Bilsteins.
  16. Allen, The only way you will get them to fit with the standard wishbones is to invert the dampers.
  17. 19 front 17 rear cold pressures seem to be Ok.
  18. A little bird just told me that you got 202bhp on DW RR. If the plugs are for this engine you want the NGKBCPR 8ES or the Champions the NGK 7 will bee too soft. What torque diid your motor make?????????/
  19. A friend has just fitted Bremsport Calipers and these retain the standard discs are a straight fit and cost around £300 from Burtons. The calipers are very good quality. I have the Caterham AP set up but it costs an arm and a leg as you will know. Edited by - Rob walker on 10 Dec 2001 11:45:59
  20. Chris, NGK BCPR 7ES will be fine for road use, consider 8`s or Champion RC6YCC for the track and sustained high rpm. All cost about £2.50 each.
  21. Chris, The mag drain plug does not should not require a sealing washer. If you examine the plug it has two concentric ridges on its mating face these should bite into the soft ali boss. However I had a problem with mine the mating face on the boss was not machined at 90 degrees to the drilled and tapped hole. I had to fettle it with a fine file and emery till the mag plug would seat leaving witness marks on the boss showing that it had seated. I also put a smear of Halomar on the plug to make sure.
  22. The noise is normal and I must say that it spooked me when I first drove my 1600SS I thought I had a big end going. Using Super UL fuel won`t make any difference as its an induction resonace and not pinking, you will find that the car will perform better if you keep the revs above the 3000-3500 rpm when it should be sweet.
  23. I run without them. If you fit the hex spacers this reduces the amount of travel available before hitting the bumpstops as you have effectively removed this length from the damper connecting rod and placed it above the top cap. The result if you are running with soft springs is that your car will roll onto the bumpstops when cornering hard and then the front will go solid and then load up the rear end resulting is understeer. Removing the hex spacers is also not ideal as you end up with very little droop this makes itself felt when the suspension becomes unloaded ie hump back bridge or uneven road the dampers can be felt pulling agaist their stops. The ideal solution would be some dampers of the correct length for the widetrack set up not lengthening the stock unit.
  24. Ah the wonderer returns, wellcome back Simon. We have a new venue for our monthly meet its the White Swan in the middle of Tytherington, I think thats how you spell it.
  25. Snapper so you recon you can get 3000 miles track use out of 32R`s that 1500 laps at most circuits. Dream on or are you keeping to 30 mph.
