  1. Ammo My home brewed R500 spec engine is sitting in my garage awaiting its new chassis I will weigh it for you next week and post the figures. IIRC its around 76Kg. Rob
  2. I have an R500 carbon fibre aeroscreen for sale. The aero screen will interchange with the standard windsrceen, it is fastened to the scuttle via the heated screen wire access holes and the windscreen wiper pillar holes with bespoke fixings. When fitted all the holes in the top of the scuttle are covered by the return edge on the bottom of the screen. A much neater installation than the Caterham CF interchangable screen and loads cheaper . Call me for details 0117 9239941. Rob Edited by - Rob walker on 15 Nov 2003 09:00:37
  3. I need an FIA Roll Bar to fit a 96 onwards De Dion chassis. I have a petty strut so its just the bar I am looking for. Thanks. rob
  4. John Thaks for the info. Yep my bearing has the grease between the bearing and the plastic housing and the contact face of the bearing is very shinny but not worn.
  5. John the contact / thrust face looks perfect. I have seen some wear on the faces of my previous CRB`s but they had done more milage 8000 and 4000 ish. The Manufacturers number would be helpfull thanks.
  6. Hood bag now sold. thanks.
  7. John, The increased preload was applied to the bearing from new. The engine and box were removed for other reasons there was no indication that the bearing was deteriorating before the strip down. In view of how its been overheating and thrown most of its grease I doubt it would have lasted much longer before starting to make some complaining noises. The worrying thing is what to do now as all my previous CRB`s have failed by way of the bearing coming away from the plastic slider section with little or no evidence of loss of lubricant. ???????????// Have I made the situation worse by applying more preload, it would seem so ??????????/
  8. Well graham I am sure you will feel much happier paying full price from Caterham.
  9. I suspect Caterham would also charge you postage. Edited by - Rob Walker on 3 Nov 2003 08:18:33
  10. John, I am not sure that increasing the CRB preload has worked. I liased with Nick Green and borrowd his spring gauges and incresed my preload with the addition of one extra spring onto the clutch peddle giving me around 80N but on splitting my engine and box two weeks ago I was dissappointed to see that most of the grease had been thrown out of the CRB and the bearing felt very loose. The car had covered less than 1500 miles since the bearing had been replaced. I doubt the bearing would have lasted another reason. Rob

For Sale hood bag in as new condition £30.
  12. Dave, I think you are forgetting the little fact that you also replaced your cams from the 740 to 1227 grind and this accounts for most of your gains.

  14. Andrew, You would be well advised to fit the uprated K head gasket available from Mike Satur Tel 01709 890555. Same price as the stock Rover and comes with steel head to block dowels. Rob
  15. Are you shure the bell tank capacity is only 4.5L I recon my system needs 5.5L on an oil change.
  16. Bob, Running with 250 F and 170 R you will always have a lively ride on the road regardless of what dampers you fit and IMHO these spring rates are too high. Rob
  17. I need a Caterham Vauxhall to Ford Gbox bellhousing, and clutch arm. A friend wants to do away with the integral oil tank bellhousing and in particular the hydraulic clutch. Thanks Rob
  18. Bob, The AVO SA1000 are very good, I am very pleased with them. £80 per corner. Rob
  19. Most good quality sockets fit without a problem, I use Britool. Most cheap sockets have thicker walls as they use poorer quality steel and need to be thicker in order to achieve similar strength.
