  1. Just tape over the end of the bleeper the noise will be massively reduced.
  2. Another factor in the selection of the correct viscosity of oil is the engineering clearances used when building your engine. Some high performance K`s run with greater main and big end bearing clearances as well as solid tappets. These engines are never used in very cold conditions thus Mobil 1 15W 50 is a very popular choice.
  3. The R500 is the same pump as used on the JPE. Its not very expensive from CC IIRC £60
  4. IIRC its 27grams /sec the standard is 19grams/sec.
  5. I think a 12 bore shot gun is the answer. Shoot the Mic ot the local resident that has complianed.
  6. Oliver, The uprated brake calipers are mounted radially from the top edge of the ear as opposed to side in the case of the standard brake installation.
  7. The car feels nice, just that my Ears came with the uprated rear brake package aka off the JPE and are stamped 2 degrees and thats what they measured at Uncles Daves. The standard current Ear`s are either 0 for slick or ACB fittment or 1.5 degrees for radials. The big question is is that extra half degree just too much and am I sacrificing too much straightline grip??? Edited by - Rob Walker on 21 May 2004 20:00:41
  8. We were experiencing poor grip on the Emerald rolling road yesterday whilst trying to map my new car. Dave Walker suspected that I was running with far too much neg camber 2 degrees. Does anyone know what is the reason for running any neg camber at all with radials when the rear axle be it live or De Dion is rigid and free from roll induced camber changes.
  9. They test at 2500/3000 rpm for CO% limit 0.3 , HC ppm 200 limit and lambda 0.97/1.03. Then there is a test for CO% at idle 450/1500 rpm limit is 0.50. My new car was SVA`d at Taunton on the 1st April 2004, the very helpfull tester allowed me to adjust my fuelling during the test using my Laptop connected to the Emerald, I was getting sleepless nights before the test turned out to be a doddle.
  10. The latest hubs are fitted with plastic seals. The inner felt seal is no longer used. Yes its possible and poor practise to overfill wit grease, I always leave about a quarter of the bearing and hub unpacked to allow for expansion. The bike shops do some tasty synth grease made by Silkolene foe around a fiver.
  11. Cellulose Thinners makes the old sealant soften & swell, it is then easy to scrape away using an old credit card or tooth brush.
  12. The K as fitted in the Caterham was never fitted in the METRO. This was the old wet linered block and had the low port line head. The K has proved its self to be a very reliable lightweight engine, go to any track day and you will see something like 90 k`s 1 zetec, 4 VX, 2XF and the rest bike engined so it stands to reason that any failure would be most likely to be a K but its usually one of the others.
  13. Flywheel bolts. I had two snap and the vibration was terrible.
  14. Caterham do not charge £270 for the magnetron. Its £93 plus vat. They now sell a very powerfull permanent magnet Bosch unit for £200 plus vat perhaps thats what you were quoted for, thats like comparing a skoda with jag.
  15. I ran with the inside of my bonnet lined with undercarpet felt, and I stress felt not that foam stuff. The felt is about 1" thick and positioned directly in front of the trumpets/airfilter. This significantly reduced the induction noise. No problems at Castle Combe but don`t think either Bedford or Goodwood would let me on. Edited by - Rob Walker on 20 Apr 2004 10:16:15
  16. Steve, Sounds like you are getting the fuel return line mixed up with the tank vent. The fuel return has no plastic valve in its line, the nylon fuel line changes to rubber for the last 9 " as it nears the top of the fuel tank. Fuel tank vent is rubber and has a plastic filter in the line which is then connected to a nylon line which runs back to the engine bay and connects to the fuel vent charcol cannister. This was only fitted to standard k`s/ EU2 MEMS to around 1998 the superlights and SLR`s did not have the cannister and merely vented the tank to atmosphere in the rear wheel arch. Hope this helps
  17. I am looking for a short exhaust silencer the type fitted to the R300 400 and 500, I am not fussed if its the carbon faced or titanium type. tel 0117 9239941 cheers Rob
  18. Darren your sad. Why not have your car set up to run properly.
  19. Andrew don`t build your hopes up Avon Ride will not normally deal with retail customers
  20. Mike you are correct the middle through the tube mount is deleated
  21. The standard clutch is not AP this is only fitted to the R300 400 & 500. You require a friction plate from a Escort Mexico crossflow engined, should be available from any good motor factors. The Ap friction plate is around the £100 and should be installed along with the uprated cover £140.
