  1. Silicon sealant, Bathroom stuff should do the job.
  2. Slacken them to reduce preload.
  3. Rear springs set with too much preload causing dampers to fully extend or worn rear brake pads, calipers hitting radius arms.
  4. I put the tiny round Fiat Coupe/ Ferrari 355 side repeaters into the sides of te headlight bowls, had no trouble at SVA. I find them great in use as you can see them you don`t forget to turn them off.
  5. You shouldn`t have any problems. Mine passed with them glued on April 2004
  6. For sale BRAND NEW standard Caterham Brake Master Cylinder. I want £80 for it. tel 0117 9239941 or o7963 834138 Mobile
  7. The kit comes with two airheart spot handbrake calipers. These are pretty crude but do provide a handbrake facilty, my car passed its SVA in March 2004 with the spot calipers so there should be no issue with the MOT in future. Whilst at my local Rover Dealer last month I noticed that the new Rover 75 V8 was fitted with AP two pot rear calipers which looked identical to my Caterham supplied calipers the only big difference being that these now had an INTEGRAL HAND BRAKE facilty that was cable operated. I would certainly check this option out before perchasing the Caterham kit.
  8. Mike Satur tel 01709 890555 retails an uprated gasket and dowels.
  9. I am pleased to report that since fitting the uprated rear brakes I have had no further problems whatsoever. I have just returned from Le Sept in particular Dijon, air temp, track temp were high and the brakes were put to extreme use without an trace of the dreaded spongy peddle.
  10. Just tighten up with a standard length allen key hand tight, the thread is designed so that it will tighten not slacken with use/rotation. A replacement belt can be soaced from any motor factors 3PK763 IIRC cost around £4.
  11. I can endorse Mikes method. However a word of caution do not run the engine with the front jacked up high if your not drysumped, or you may not be picking up any oil which may be counter productive.
  12. Its my opinion that the ridges/grooves on the scavenge pump pulleys are too small for the belt. The result is the belt only drives/grips the bottom of the grooves and not on the taper. Combine this with cold thick oil on start up and possibly some belt wear and you get slip and squeal. Recomend that you change your belt frequently and pay particular attention to cleaning the pulleys before fitting the new belt with carb cleaner or brake disc cleaner. It is also possible that your auto tensioner spring has got weak you could try a replacement, its off a Rover 216/416/25 power steering belt tensioner.
  13. I presume you mean diesel lub oil? If so then yes it has different additives package and a higher detergent content in its mix. If I had such a nice car I would the correct lubricant such as a specific good quality synth diesel lub oil.
  14. The R500 is easily identified from the SLR as it has cut outs or through holes near the ring gear, the SLR the flywheel is estentially the same but the same cut outs do not go all the way through to the engine side of the flywheel and thus its about 0.5kg lighter
  15. David Jackson has run with EVO2 for the last two seasons with 100% reliablity. Good value for money IMO.
  16. Tony If the plugs look Ok I would not worry too much. Excessive oil contamination of the mixture does reduce the octane rating which could lead to detonation but this would be evident on your plugs and you would feel it under hard excelleration. What sort of oil consumption are you getting ? See you next week, should I bring a gas mask along?
  17. There should be no play in the two tripod joints on each shaft. I can`t believe you can feel 30Degrees, is this not backlash within the diff??????. The only definative way to feel for wear is to withdraw a shaft and feel for play holding each end of the shaft. I would be very surprised if you can feel any wear.
  18. Simon are the joints worn??? If its just the rubber gaitors replace them yourself a kit is available from Ford at about £8 I have done a few. If its the joints I wish you luck in tracking down replacements Ford no longer sell the Seirra CV joints as separate. Your best bet is a secondhand joint from a scrap yard. CC gets the drive shafts made up by GKN driveline but they will not deal directly with Joe Public.
  19. the 1227 cams are not used in the R500.
  20. IIRC the correct plug is RC6YCC champion and BCPR8ES NGK.
  21. The new drive shafts are 1.5kg lighter than the original sierra based unit. I have my doubts that they could be stronger the sierra joints and bespoke shafts were massive and no one stocked replacement joints as they never failed even on taxi`s and covering huge miles.
  22. You will struggle to find a replacement cv joint. Ford no longer sell them as a separate item and I had no luck with any motorfactors or transmission specialists. Yor best bet is to get a good secondhand joint offa sierra the rubber boot kits are still avalable via ford or send the whole shaft back to GKN driveline the manufacture. A new shaft is around £220 from CC.
