  2. Bill, I am very interested where abouts are you? will you be at cadwell? Rob
  3. Fit the correct fuel OE pressure reg and correct mixture should restored. If you have increased the fuel pressure than your entire map may be out.
  4. Nope you are wrong. The main battery positive feed goes onto the M8 and the M6 is the starter actuator ( which is also a positive feed comes from your starter button or key switch slaved via a relay ( MFU if you are using a K series wiring loom a brown red wire. The starter gets it neg/ground from the engine block which should be grounded to the battery and to the chassis. I wired a 2.3 Duratec today. Rob
  5. Mike, The inner face of the bush is counter bored to allow the the cap headed allen to sink below the face of the interior panel Rob
  6. I will fit them for you whilst you wait if you get the car to me in Bristol 0117 9239941 Cheerio Rob
  7. A word of warning, the upright is cast and I would not advise banging at it with hammers or your likely to cause a crack in the upright which may lead to a nasty failure. I would support the upright and use a press and a bit of gentle heat if it won`t move. If you have been beating hell out of it I would throw the upright in the bin and buy a new one to be on the safe side. Edited by - Rob Walker on 8 Apr 2005 20:18:05
  8. Bob, Does the LSD unit now come with the 30 degree ramp angles and reduced preload? Mine had to be modded by Phil Stewart
  9. Simon. I am surprised at your response. Surely the point is Why have Caterham changed to this caliper when its clearly not an improvement over the two previous AP calipers. For me its a pretty fundemental that I am able to change the pads with the minamum of hassle and one would hope that the caliper was designed with the utmost safety in mind and that the design made it impossible for the pad retaining pins to ever come loose.
  10. I have just fitted a set. Problem, its not possible to fit the top pad retaining pin without unbolting the caliper from the upright or removing the cycle wing stay. What a brilliant bit of design work! What was wrong with the old design? Also I am not confident with the spring fixings for the pad retaining pins, they simply press into the caliper body not very safe. These calipers are definate step backwards IMHO a big Edited by - Rob Walker on 30 Mar 2005 19:11:41
  11. 1. It has four fixings into the top chassis rail therefore greater chance of poor alignment with the bushes in the chassis. I tried to fit one last week 3 of the 8 holes do not align and are out by as much as 10mm so the whole car is being returned to caterham for them to sort. 2. Yes the scuttle can be removed independant of the cage as the cage is not fastened through the scuttle as was the the Safety Dev cage 3.£707 inc vat Rob
  12. Graham try the motorsnippets.com site
  13. When cranking with the plugs out its good practise to unplug the inertia switch with is located on the near side of the engine bay scuttle bulkhead. This cuts the supply to the fuel pump preventing fuel being sprayed into the engine and causing the flame, presumabley ignited by one of the spark plugs. loss of oil pressure could be an air lock. Good practise to fill the oil filter before screwing it onto the car. Just keep cranking the engine it sould clear. Getting most of the oil out is no big problem just take the scavenge pump belt off and wind the pump with your fingure until oil stops arriving at the top of the belltank. Rob
  14. Mark, The ACB`s are even lighter as they are a crossply construction.
  15. Paul, I used to maintain a drysumped VX for a mate. I replaced the seals three times in one year. IMO the seal fails due to the seal sticking/bonding to the bore after getting very hot ( engine oil temps) and the car being left to stand for weeks between use, the next time the clutch is depressed a tiny bit of seal is removed. I then tried the system filled with Dot 4 SILICON brake fluid, the rational being that this would act as a lubricant/release agent and may prevent the seal sticking to the bore. Well its seemed to work as the car ran a full year without failure and now has a new owner so I do not know if its still Ok. I concur with you on the bore scratches, these need to be sorted to stand any chance of the seals lasting. Sleeving the bore would be a good move. Chellspeed the K drysump clutch fork is not a Ford item its a bespoke Fork made from guage plate and is a different shape and is not interchangable with the standard fork which is use along with the wet sump system ( this may be a Ford pattern). 16. I understand the ZF`s are out of stock and non around. If you want to change you could have a long wait.
  17. Ammo The the bare 1.8K and the bare 2.3 Duratec were weighed on the same scales, K was 74KG the Durex 96Kg both engines were in exactly the same state of undress. Don`t know how accurate my scales are though. Since the weigh in the difference in weight must have increased as the parts put onto the Duratec are heavier than the K parts. As to my weight now a flabby 95kg and rising. As to my preferance not sure as yet the jury is out until I have driven the mighty Duratec. Rob. Edited by - Rob Walker on 15 Mar 2005 20:45:37
  18. Simon, £17 -18k for a duratec using new parts??????? Seems a very low budget I wish you well.
  19. I have just fitted one on a 2.3 and its nicely made but I have to say its a heavy old Hector. I cannot see any reason why it needs to be so heavy. I am dreading puting this engine on the scales as the car that I am building replaces a VX and with the additions of the Pace Dry sump, large diameter flywheel and clutch, heavy cam cover, steel verniers its gonna be well over 110 kg`s and thats VX territory.
  20. Sorry Neil the guy rang me on my mobile imediately I left the house so I let him have the tyres, I did not get back home till after 7pm to see my computer . what would you have done?
  21. Sorry Neil the Yokos sold in 10 mins after posting and have been collected. Petrol Head the Cr500`s are yours if you want them, I have no plans to go to caterham midlands in the near future.
  22. 2X 185 60 X 13 YOKO 32`s super soft less than half worn £25 each 2 X 175 X 13 CR500`s 4mm thread remaining £20 each. I can deliver to Llandow on Saturday or you collect Tel 0117 9239941 or 07963 834138 Rob
  23. If your gonna run a stand alone tank a la Pace there is no need to take the engine out and cost is lower than the Pace. Also no need to do any work on the engine apart from change the sump pan and pickup you also have the insurance that should the drive belt go AWOL then oil pressure will be maintained until the contents of the tank are depleated.
  24. Why is it better than Caterhams set up ?
  25. Simon, You must have fault. If the battery is upto spec it has more ouput than the banner for instant cranking. Should start your car with no problem mine starts first crank on the button as does Jacko`s. Rob
