  1. Coldstream has been discontiued. If stock is available locally I would stock up before it vanishes.
  2. Yep, bent valves and peppered combustion chamber/piston crown. I am very disappointed the fixings for the airbox should not be able to come loose and enter the engine. Bad design and all the fixings had a liberal coating of loctite. IMO the airbox construction is too thin and the box resonates the fixings then fret into the soft ali backplate and then come loose. I shall be modifying my own airbox before it hits the roads again as this just won`t do.
  3. Laser tools sell them for under £8. they are in black finish & suitable for impact wrench use
  4. IMO the preload has little if anything to do with CRB failure. Failure is due to the fingures tips of the clutch cover that contact the crb not rotating inline with the crank. I have seen several clutch covers with the fingure tips running out 10mm whilst having the engine spun during balancing, the tips then scuff away at the CRB face generate loads of heat and the grease is flung out also the bearing is constantly trying to self center. Combine this with track use gear changes at 7000 plus they don`t last long. If it was purely down to pre load every K`d caterham would eat CRB`s and they don`t. The new SKF bearing is two parts pushed together and separates easily, I would not describe this as a failure.
  5. J&L industrial supplies have a Britool 50 piece on sale at £45, a bargin tel 0800 66 33 55 Edited by - Rob Walker on 30 Oct 2005 08:39:48
  6. Who cut the hole in the side skin ? Rough spoils the job.
  7. The two wires that connect to the back of the LED. Just pull the LED out from the dash and disconnect one wire and tape up the live end.
  8. It contines to puzzle me that Piper advertise their 1227 cam as the R500 cam when we know that it is not and that Piper do not supply the cams for any of the Caterham K variants. ?????
  9. Simple cut one of the two wires that supply the LED.
  10. Bosch quoted me 248cc@3bar for the cream 0208 150 749 and 16 ohm Sorry I guess you mean the all plastic type 280 155 868 I do not have the capa city of these suggest you ring Bosch on 01895 878008 Simon Thomas is very helpfull. Edited by - Rob Walker on 24 Oct 2005 09:02:40
  11. Alex, I can`t see any reason why the Scouse air box wouldn`t fit your VX if you spec a blank back plate and drill it yourself to suit and deleat the trumpets etc.
  12. I wouldn`t waste me money on Carbon. Bernard Scouse does a super air box kit for the K at £340 which includes 42X90mm trumpets, backplate, fuel rail fixings, and throttle cable stay bracket this price also includes postage Tel 01933 224334 or SALES@AUTO-TEKNIX.CO.UK
  13. Yes Dave very impressive. I have seen Bernards installations in the Elise and Exige and it looks a well engineered package with massive potential. He uses the Audi 6 speed box total cost is around £7500 for him to do the conversion.
  14. Sugino if you go onto Rally Design`s site there is a picture and spec under the brakes section " Mechanical Spot Caliper/parking brake" Edited by - Rob Walker on 13 Oct 2005 13:28:03
  15. Peter, I agree the spot calipers are poor but it is possible to get them working reasonably well. Mine went through SVA last year with them fitted and they will hold the car on a steep incline and pass an MOT no problem. Its a question of what else is available. The only other alternative apart from those nasty HI- Spec is a separate mechanical caliper for the hand brake manufactured for the Radical by powertec but these cost £350 for the pair. And to be fair the reason that the CC spot calipers performance is so poor is largely due the fact that they are not mounted correctly on a U channel bracket that would allow them to self center as was their design. The Caterham deformable brackets are a very nasty bit of engineering and only work if the pads are correctly adjusted and no pad wear has occured. Once the pads wear the bracket is over stressed and the pads drag on the disc. Edited by - Rob Walker on 13 Oct 2005 09:50:23
  16. Ultra brite LEDs from Maplin, they sell 10mm Dia in several colours, yes you will need a series 300 Ohm resistor for 12V. Total cost £1.5
  17. The 280 bhp Duratec was piloted by owner Tom Hood and I built the engine to its present spec. The stock 2.3 unit was supplied by Raceco/Ammo.
  18. I have run with RS14`s for three years and found them excellent.
  19. It is in fact derived from a clutch designed for the Ford Escort Mexico circa 1973. I have found them to be very durable in service, a good cheap bit of kit IMO.
  20. I have the latest AP clutch cover sitting infront of me the cover is CP3748-13 and the plate CP 2257-44 listed as clutch kit caterham. It replaced CP3748-3 sorry I do not have the old plate number but can confirm that its identical to the latest one. The CP3748-13 is 0.25Kg lighter than the old one and AP have made some effort at balancing the cover. Cost from CC is £150 plus vat.
  21. If you are to buy a 421 system the Caterham VHPD ( LEFT HAND DRIVE) full system gives very good results. The primaries were reshaped to clear the steering colum on LHD cars and this also gives extra clearance around the starter motor. 233BHP and 162lbs torque out of my 1.8K at 7800rpm and very good low down torque The other point to consider is that the hole in your side skin will fit this system.
  22. Try the manufacturer Michell Cotts Transmission based in Weston Super Mare thats the S West UK,
  23. I would Drain the engine and gearbox and refill with some fresh oil, remove the plugs and turn over bye hand spray WD 40 down the bores. If you have time remove the back cover plate offa the diff and let the oil drain out and spray WD 40 into the diff internals. As long as the water was not sea water you should be on a winner, good luck
  24. Some years ago I bought a water damaged 1.6 K engine that had been submerged when a river broke its banks. It was sold to me as scrap which was fine as I only required the block. However when stripped and cleaned all the internals of the engine including the bores were perfect.
