  1. There should be no need to change the gasket they are re-useable and cost £27. I would get that foam out ASAP and clean out the oil pickup pipe.
  2. I have never used a dip stick/rod,I simply look down the swirl tower and fill the oil until it comes just short of the ledge/joint between the bell tank and the swirl tower. You will get a tiny bit chucked into the catch tank at high revs but less than half a cup. I have to say its getting a bit sad if you have to carry oven gloves and a length of ali rod to check your oil .
  3. Some debris may have got into the dry sump pan and blocked the wire gauze filter at the scavenge pick up. Remove the scavenge pickup and clean the filter. The drop in oil pressure could be either the level in the bulk tank dropped below the outlet as insufficient oil was being returned or the pressure build up within the engine due to flooding with oil worked against that being produced by the oil pump.
  4. If you had a bit too much oil in with the wet sump then its highly likely that you would get sump windage and a lot of oil vapour out of the breathers. The K wet sump is very marginal and should not be overfilled.

I used this stuff over 25 years ago too good effect in Norton,Velocette and Ducati motorcyles. IMHO with the availablity of excellent modern day synthetic oils there is no need for such additives. I would simply fill with the best modern oil that I could afford and forget the additives " old hat".
  6. Track day half to one litre is normal. Some oil vapour from the cam cover is normal especially with a wet sumped VHPD . You are sure that you have not overfilled the oil?????
  7. In my case definately the tyre as nothing else has changed. I can tame the car a little by running lower tyre pressures 15 psi and softening off my damping but this is very much a compromise as the car is too soft in the corners for my tastes. I presume that the 48`s are designed for a heavier car and that we are stuck with that. On track the stiff side walls are not so much of a problem.
  8. Dave, As you know I recently went from 32`s to 48`s and yes I have noticed that the car has become more unstable and tramlines more. I put it down to the stiffer side walls which have also contributed to the poorer ride quality. In short I do not like the 48`s very much and will fit some more 32`s when the 48`s are done. Rob

    sump foam

I fitted a new foam baffle to a 1.8K three weeks ago whilst doing and engine transplant from a 1.4 ,it lasted only a few days in the 1.8 engine, less than 100 miles road use before breaking up and blocking the oil pickup pipe? The oil used was Halfords Fully synth. Years ago circa 97/98 I ran foam baffles in my old car and had no problems for 10k miles but I used Comma SynG. I wonder If the spec of the foam has changed or is it the Halfords oil ? My advise would be run without the foam baffle and mod the sump gasket as per Oily`s instruction. Rob
  10. For those interested there is a fab display of these impressive engines in the Bristol Industrial Museum and its free.
  11. I need a Caterham steel lightweight flywheel to fit on a K anyone got one please Cheerio Rob
  12. I fitted a foam baffle on a K two weeks ago, the baffle dissolved/broke up after three hours use. The bits blocked the oil pickup pipe.
  13. 1200 wet and dry abrasive, then wire wool and Autosol Polish finishing off with Autosol on cloth. Once you have got it finished the shine lasts for months.
  14. Paul, Cosworth market their own specific oil for the 260 engine. I think they offer a fully synth 0W20 and 0W30. have a look on their web site www.liquidcosworth.com There should be no problem with blowing oil filter seals as virtually all filters have the less than ideal feature of a pressure bye pass valve manufactured into each filter. 15. Cut the unions off the old pipe by carefull use of a hacksaw to cut off the ferriles, replace the pipe and use a jubilee clips to seal. Send the wrong pipe back to CC for a refund.
  16. Tetbury it is then, thats great. Cheers Rob

  20. Hi Ewen, I am interested in whats left of the engine. YHM. Cheers Rob
  21. Buckled wheel rim or the old problem with the edge of the rear discs hitting the calipers when hot. Check that you have a minamum of .060" between the lip of the discs and the inside top face of the calipers. CC sold a batch of discs that were 3mm too big on diameter and when they expanded when hot they hit the caliper .

  23. The emissions test for SVA is only at idle and 2500rpm the stock injectors will be fine well past this level probably up to half power. I run some 380cc mosters in my K 230 bhp again far too big and have to fit the stock 225cc injectors to meet SVA an MOT emissions.
  24. Omega direct 0121 5596778 or OED
  25. The green injectors are way too big for the kind of power you seek they are 405cc@3bar. I expected problems with these on the latest car that I built and chickened out in the end and ran with the stock injectors in the head and 330picos in the TB`s a set up I know works. I am informed that the CSR 260 runs with the green injectors and meets SVA emissions.
