  1. The O ring is only on the 6 speed box. A thin smear of silicon or Haylomar on both sides of the paper gasket around the selector shaft is all thats required.
  2. TomB, Is the dry sump equipment secondhand ? Sounds like you may have a bent clutch arm, these used to fail regularly . CC uprated the the clutch arm 1999 ish the uprated ones do not fail. Just look at the action of the arm within the cut out in the top of the belltank, if its hitting or its movement is restricted by the belltank casting then suspect the clutch arm. Rob
  3. Ah johnty, If only it were that simple, the tapped blind hole is in a different place. John, If you use Loctite on the bolt it will never come loose. Rob
  4. Steve I have a copy of the destructions, I could send them along with the Alternator? I have to find out the postage cost for the alternator and get back to you. Sorry for the delay. Rob
  5. Caterham stopped using the Ford based driveshafts 3+ years ago. The latest driveshafts are made by GKN Driveline and are based on the Freelander driveshafts. Sadly not as strong as the old Ford based as the UJ`s run in a pressed steel casing , the old ford ran in a cast housing and the diameter of the driveshafts were bigger/stronger. The new driveshafts are lighter though. As Mick posted they are cut down in length to fit the Caterham installations. GKN will not supply direct I have tried. Just a thought has the fuel pump in your tank been changed to the uprated one? If not it could be failing to deliver enough fuel under heavy load and then the fuel pressure will drop off and your mixture will go lean. Again a trip to a rolling road will reveal all. If this is the fault then you cannot really blame the engine builder or the mapping that has been supplied with the engine. Rob Edited by - Rob Walker on 8 Feb 2007 10:04:41
  8. Kevin speak to Rupert Handley , I think he wants one tel 07980 865259

Sounds like the car needs to be put onto a rolling road and given a full wide band lambda AFR sweep done to check the fueling under load. What type of ECU do you have and who mapped the engine????????
  12. Niel, I have an old 16 bit Emerald M3dk you can try/borrow/buy if thats any use? Failing that you could fit a an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and take the car to a rolling road do a fuelling check under load. It should be possible to make some basic fuel adjustments by eithetr increasing or decreasing fuel pressure. Rob
  13. Any good motor factor will sell generic silkoflex, usually goes by the name tiger seal, polyurathane body adhesive/sealant £9 ish.
  14. Paul, It depends on several factors. If you just want a CF for visual purposes then you can wet lay up very thin CF mat that will easily form within your mould and this can be done using poly ester resin and further layers of glass fibre mat can be added behind the CF. Mog use this method to make their CF products. Conversly if you have a complex mould shape with many compound curves and you want to lay up several layers of thick CF woven mat its would be necessary to vacuum form in order to consolidate the layers of mat and not end up with loads of air pockets and excessive resin or epoxy within the mat. If you would like to know more Matrix Mouldings do a short half day course here in Bristol, the chap runs it FOC with a donation to the RNLI. Rob
  15. Yep Stu, the hard ones are gunmetal grey ( as Jacko says they are the Rally spec) Running with the correct Timing belt profile and tension also greatly reduces wear. Piper has supplied me with all sorts of Timing belts for the K some with square teeth, grooved teeth and never consistent lengths. I now always buy "Gates" belts and count the number of teeth.
  16. Simon, The wear is normal but worrying. I replaced the toothed wheels with hard anodised ones. Speak to Warren at piper he can supply you.
  17. A company called Autolock opened mine when I locked my keys in the boot at Cadwell. They are a nationwide franchaise, try google search.
  18. Its the ZF lsd units. ZF have sold the intellectual rights to Mitchell Cotts who also build the Caterham 6 speed box. Obviously it will take time before a batch is manufactured. If your in a rush get Phil stewart to fit the Tran-X unit. No one will have an exact cost for the ZF yet but allow around a £1000 .

  20. This wasn`t the R500 that eat a bag of Portland Cement through its induction was it???
  21. Sorry Rob but I still think your posting is misleading. I concur that you can probably buy a 250bhp 2.3L for 10K or much less. You could build your own engine for far less, you could use a secondhand base engine. You could use cheap forged pistons and cheap steel rods or you could fit Arrow rods and Omega pistons. Lets stop this nonsense as its not helpfull to anyone to quote prices that do not relate to a detailed specification of components and a work schedule.

Hi Piers, I am very interested in these. How old are they and how much is remaining on the wear indicators???? Rob
  23. It amazes me that people can quote meaningless figures for engines . Common sense dictates that a price is dependant on the spec of the engine. Who is building the engine and what is it being installed in. Then we get to things like Dry Sumping, trick exhausts, Electronics.
  24. I always filter out the frog spawn before use.
