  1. CC only sell the ultralite R500 type flywheel now. It is a dangerous practise to lighten the stock cast flywheel IMO, could be false economy ending up with no legs.
  2. IMO most people are too quick to blame the HG everytime. I would add a couple of caps full of Redline water wetter to the coolant, bleed it again and see how you go.

    R400 build

Just remove the sandwich plate and refit the oil filter. It will be fine to run the engine without the oil cooler. The oil cooler is only really needed on long journeys travelling at high speed 80+ and hard track use. I have just fitted a 10 row oil cooler mounted below & behind the rad and ducted cool air under the rad, its works well on the road, on track at Pembrey next week will be a more thorough test. Rob
  4. I would remove the QED remote stat ,refit the standard thermostat into the standard rover housing, check the whole syetem for leaks, bleed system and give it another run before pulling it apart. The coolant expansion is probably due to the system not pressurizing fully, if it were a HG fire ring then the coolant would expand and the system would be overpressurized after a few secs/minutes running. If the HG coolant seals had failed you should have either and external leak of coolant showing along the head /block joint or coolant in your oil or oil in your expansion bottle. Hood

I am looking for a set of hoodsticks and straps if these are not required?
  6. I am havin problems with Pagid RS15`s. For years I have run with RS14 all round with uprated front and rear brakes. I recently fitted RS15`s on the front and find them great on track but the road they are not worked hard enough and glaze up resulting in very little intial bite from a pad that was specified as a high torque pad. For me they are a step too far and I shall go back to the RS14`s.
  7. why not try the manufacturer Claerbont Automotive Ltd Edited by - Rob Walker on 18 May 2007 08:39:19
  8. Wid bill, You can come and try my 6.5" fronts and 8" rears they have yoko 185 and 205 X13 "tyres Rob
  9. I would advise you fit the 3.62 with your engine. I have to say why do you want to rev above 9000rpm , It is going to need frequent rebuilds if you use those revs.
  10. I have fitted the 5speed Quaife SCCR pro boxes to the two big 2.3 duratecs that I have built. The boxes have prooved to be reliable and stood all kinds of abuse. Very noisy on the road though.
  11. With wet sump from first fill 5L on oil changes thereafter 4.5-5L. As Mic says allow extra for any oil cooler and plumbing
  12. The gains to be had are very small IMHO, I would save or spend my money on some other upgrade. If you bend the car and the wish bones have to be replaced it could make sense to change to WT.
  13. Merlin stock the full range 8-16mm up to 100-120mm most of the hoses require 25-40mm
  14. get some standard rubber hoses from a motor factor until your silicon hoses are delivered.
  15. Fill with redline MTL oil.
  16. If it regularly gets too hot then the diodes that make up the rectifier usually fail. It it is getting too many revs the bearings fail
  17. Alex, Second thoughts as a compromise I would probably fit a 3.62 diff along with the sixspeed, you will have enough torque to pull it and it will be nicer to drive on the road. The R500 was supplied with the 3.62 diff and has less torque than your engine. Your engine should also last longer. I do like the Caterham six speed box Rob
  18. Alex, I fitted 3.62 diffs in two big 2.3 Duratecs both running 5 speed quaife boxes and 22" rear tyres but these engines are rev limited to 7200rpm and had massive torque from 4000rpm. I can`t say that I personally liked the 5 speed ratios especially the tiny difference between 4th 1:1 and 5th .87:1 seemed pointless changing gear on track. I have just fitted a 2L Duratec into my own car retained the Caterham six speed box and run 22" tyres and the 3.62 diff is spot on with this engine but again its not really what you would call a revver 7500rpm. I would have to agree with Paul Gibb if you have 8500-8750rpm at your disposal then the 3.92 diff would best suit the Caterham six speeder. It will be tiresome to drive on long runs though.
  19. Alex. Phil Stewart will do you an exchange your 3.92 for a 3.62 . he charges around £50 for the swap. The 3.32 ratios are expensive and I have never heard of anyone fitting them to a SLR race car it would be too tall a ratio IMO. Rob
  20. Coppa slipping the back of the pads is a complete waste of time. As soon ast the pad gets hot the grease burns away .
  21. If they have the number 0280 150 703 they are from the 1.4 you may be able to use them if you have a reprogrammable ECU as they flow 170cc/m@3bar the 1.8 injectors have the number 0280 150 749. Edited by - Rob Walker on 3 May 2007 14:10:50
  22. Hi Peter, Very interested in the tank, Has it been modified in any way and is it free from dents ? Rob
