  1. The whole idea that wrapping the primaries would quickly burn up the exhaust packing has never made any engineering sense to me,in view of the sheer volume and speed of the hot exhaust gases passing down the pipe its is unlikely that much heat as a percentage of the total hot gases would be lost/ radiated from the 18" directly after the head. I still have concernes however that the exhaust wrap may be contributing to speed up the degredation of the thin 16SWG stainless steel primary tubing ????????? Rob
  2. I have just emptied and repacked my silencer box as I`m on Le Sept next week. I was surprized to see that all the Eglass and stainless steel wool was in almost perfect condition after 4000miles several track days including the Ring. So all the scaremongers out there that advised me that I would burn up my exhaust packing when using wrapped primaries would appear to be wrong. 😬
  3. Sounds like your ignition timing is too advanced on cranking. Take 5 degrees off and see if it improves.
  4. Tiddy, I think Martin Lane wants your gear box tel 07768 096477.
  5. I am aware of the performance advantages etc but my worry is more about the damage that excessive heat could cause to the metal that the primaries are made. Are they likely to become brittle and crack or become anealed and prone to distortion. What is certain is that the properties of the ss tube change, it becomes black and oxidized and cannot be polished back to the same colour as the primaries that have not been wrapped.
  6. Uprated 4 pot calipers and solid discs
  7. Mal, speak to John Freeth at performance braking about his Alcon kit 01600 713117. He will sort you out 😬
  8. I have just asked Cheesman the manufacturer, who said it is ok to wrap their primaries as they are made from 304 stainless steel and should cope with the extra heat without a problem..
  9. Rob I can except all of the above but I feel that there must be a technical reason and suspect it may have something to do with concenrating the heat on the first 12" of the primary pipe and this excessive heat damaging the stainless steel pipe.
  10. Does anyone know why Caterham or any other manufacturer never uses exhaust wrap or insulating socks on the primaries, even when underbonnet temperatures are known to be high and that there are problems with heat soak through the peddle box and transmission tunnel panelling ????????????
  11. TADTS and the speedo also. IMHO the instrements and senders that Caterham supply are such poor quality that they should have no place on a car costing £20-40K.
  12. Interested in the flywheel how much?
  13. Raceline has run the Zetec and Duratecs for years without any expansion /header tank
  14. So is this the end of your track days or do you have a Race Shuttle on order
  15. If you have the Rover throttle pot it is possible to open the blind hole right through using a hot wire or soldering iron you can then reverse the mounting of the pot.
  16. The six pin one is the later type and the extra pins are for the green indicator and blue main beam warning lights housed within the rev counter. You will need the six pin plug and connect the tacho wire , an earth and the feed for the internal illumination. Look in the manual for connection details.
  17. Latest ones are 10mm wider and track parallel.
  18. I have run with 205 tyres on a variety of rim widths from 6" to 8.5" it has been my experiece that the 205 tyre stretched onto 8.5" gives the best performance by far. The sidewalls distort less so the carcase of the tyre and surface of the tyre is more stable therefore you can push the tyre harder and I even noticed reduced tyre wear. Only down side is it is difficult for the tyre fitter to initially inflate the tyre. If you fit a 205 on a 6" rim and push it hard it feels as if its rolling off the rim by comparison plus you get higher wear.
  19. Rally Design seem good on price tel 01795 539930
  20. Can someone help. I am surprised that this car has not sold and would like to know why its not been snapped up This must be one of the most powerfull caterhams ever built with all the right bits , its is in near new condition with very low milage and NO track use, the car has to one of the best caterham that has ever been for sale on this forum in the last 10 years it is at least £10K less than an R500 kit and is built SVA`d and on the road and still it has not sold. Times must be hard
  21. Just put a shorting link across the inertia switch , then you can eliminate this as a possible cause of your problem.
  22. Stu , So what type have you fitted, how much and from where???????????????? I have national rod ends RMX4T on my car but note that caterham now supply NMB 4ARHT4E rod ends which are top spec aero standard with a price to match. Cheers Rob
  23. Please explain Oily. Do you mean that the resistor acts as a current limiter so that the energy from the coil is evenly distributed between the two cylinders? Brent, As a matter of interest we ran Tom Hoods 280 bhp on non resitive plugs for 6 months and it ran sweet. It was Karl at Emerald that advised us to switch to resistive plugs as thay had problems with interference when using non resitive plugs. Edited by - Rob Walker on 21 May 2008 22:08:29
  24. It will not damage the ECU but the EMR may cause interference and you may get misfires and corrupted sensor feedback to the ecu. NGK BR 7EFS work well with your spec of engine.
  25. It has been my experience that the claerbont senders start to behave irratically when they have seen high oil pressure on start up. I had three fail over two weeks on my Duratec engined car and they were all remote mounted away from any vibration and water. Not fit for purpose IMHO.
