  1. If the mapping is right there should be no problem running around town. When I had a highly tuned K it would pull smoothly from 1500rpm to 8500rpm in top gear. Suggest you contact Simon Tidmus re Inovate LC1. He has just finished with his kit and may be selling tel 07976 633997. Rob
  2. 6 speed is an all ali case, 5speed only the tail casting is ali.
  3. IMO 5W50 is too thick for the Duratec engine. I now use 5W30.
  4. Thanks Oily, If this is a new version of the 2L duratec with the high port head, forged crank and better pistons then this will be very exciting! I am puzzled why Ford/Mazda have seen it necessary to redesign the crank as the current one does seem to be strong&durable. Peter McEwan told me some time ago that the Australian Mazda 6 engine had the higher spec parts. Rob
  5. I have tried all manor of settings currently running front parallel and rear parallel.
  6. It is usually stamped on the ear, 1.5 or 2 or 0.25
  7. The stock leads are made to a price and have a graphite core, this can break down with vibration and movement. The graphite cores resistance acts as a current limiter to reduce the energy transmitted through to the spark plug and hence gives supression. The Magnecor lead has a solid centre core this is then insulated then counter wrapped with a coil of wire as a screen to provide the supression, as a result more energy can get to the spark plug and there is less electromagnetic radiation that can corrupt the ECU and sensors. It is escential to use resistive spark plugs with the magnecor leads. try getting a tacho pulse reading off a Mangecor lead its impossible as the leakage is too small.
  8. Just to confuse you further the standard set up used to be front set to toe out 20 minutes and rear toe in 20 minutes.
  9. Magnecor leads are the best available The rf leakage/interference is extremely low. The stock graphite leads are rubbish in comparison. If you spec the correct connectors you cannot buy better HT leads. The VVC needs special plug connectors as the head is 13mm taller.
  10. less tyre scrub, more top speed. the rear track is also 10mm wider!
  11. Caterhams are very light on clutches , are you sure that its not a bent actuator arm? very common problem on early dry sumped R400 cars. Inspect the slot in the bellhousing and ensure that the clutch actuator arm is not restricted . if it is then its most likely bent. Still an engine out job sorry!
  12. Be aware that the latest wide buttress de dion tubes track parallel
  13. Anyone know any more details on the new 2L engine fitted to the latest 2009 spec Mazda Mx5. Its a 2L with a forged crank, pistons with fully floating little ends and revs to 7500rpm as a stock motor. Sounds an ideal base engine for tuning.
  14. Looks very similar to my failure. Check that the disc is not cracked or bent as it will have taken all the side loading when the bearing failed.
  15. I had two sets fail this year. One set broke up completely on track at Le Mans Bugatti circuit on the Le Sept trip. In my case the wheels would turn and were only held on the car by the rear discs held within the calipers. If they are found to be the fault and fitted within the last two years send them back to CC , they may be part of a faulty batch that they had. I would also advise you to check both sides. I would be surprised if the LSD unit has failed locking the the rear wheels, one of the diff bearings possibly but unlikely. Rob
  16. John, I run a 2L duratec with a Raceline wet sump and not had any problems with burning oil during cornering. Suggest you recalibrate your dip stick by draining all the oil out then refilling with 4.5L including the oilfilter as a max oil level on your dip stick plus a tad more if you have an oil cooler. I would also ensure that your engine breathers from the cam cover and the block are routed to a catch tank, you should have no further problems. I also do not think that uou need a dry sump. Rob
  17. Over rich mixture will cause the Cat to overheat. If the outer casing is glowing red hot then something is not right.
  18. ECR, I have left Holts tyre weld in for months after sealing a slow puncture, best position the leak at the lowest point before filling with the laytex foam. There is a better product used by the motorcycle guys called "OKO " this bright green goop will permanently seal a slow puncture but needs to be manually inflated. Rob
  19. I think you will struggle to find 8.5" Andy as far as I know they only make 6" & 8"
  20. Bilbo, What is your garage playing at trying to emission test a carbed engine ? Should only be a look at the tailpipe for any smoke.
  21. If you can prove that the engine was manufactured/built before 1995 then it is exempt from any emissions testing at SVA and any future MOT.
  22. The offset that you have is correct and the standard Caterham ET24. Do you have the radius arms with the swaged area to give extra clearance for the tyre? Also BIM that reducing the -ve offset will put higher loadings on your wheel bearings and its likely that your tyre will contact the outside lip of the wheel arches when the suspension is in compression. I run with the CXR`s -ET24 8.5" and have only had a problem when running massive Yoko slicks 200 515 /13. Also note that Caterham now use 8" rear wheels with ET24 offset.
  23. TADTS you need 30mm+ to avoid any contact. Rob Edited by - Rob Walker on 11 Nov 2008 20:09:09
  24. I am interested in the diff would you take £50 for it? Cheerio Rob
  25. Oily, I have two K`s in my garage that have both suffered oil starvation . Both have damage limited to number 4 big end shells and crank pin only. Hence my rational that when the oil flow is interupted the last in line gets zilch. Rob
