  1. Try tightening up the detent spring first, its located under the small 10mm allen grub screw at the left side top corner of the gearbox casing.
  2. Simon , Are you sure that the 1mm restrictor is still in place ??? With the restrictor in place it should not be possible for any great amount of coolant to be fed back to the expansion tank. Has this problem just started or has it been there since installation?
  3. Ive done several its no big problem to swage the can on, just gentle taps with a 1/2lb hammer. If you are carefull you can even get the cans off without damage and reuse them. To do this gently tap a broad screwdriver under the swaged edge and open it up to allow the can to be withdrawn. A word of advice make sure that before you withdraw the cv joint from the drive shaft you take note or mark its position /orientation for refitting. A messy dirty job have fun, £30 to the man in wales is worth consideration. Edited by - Rob Walker on 20 Mar 2009 07:59:48
  4. The injector current draw will be dependant on its own internal resistance, Hence Oily`s answer regarding series limiting resistors being necessary if injectors with less than 12ohms are to be used. So in answer to your question No the injector current is not controlled by pulse width or amplitude modulation. Edited by - Rob Walker on 19 Mar 2009 08:37:54
  5. Yes put simply the longer the duration of the pulse the more fuel is passed by the injector, the fuel pressure should remain constant.
  6. The cruciform is the strongest bit of the chassis.
  7. The mems ecu will NOT work without the signal from the lucas 5as unit,
  8. I did a back to back power run at Emerald when I had my 230 bhp K series, the power loss with the cat fitted was less than 2%.
  9. £125 is the trade in value for one needing a rebuild. Mal if you can lay hands on any for £10-50 I will buy them all at that price ! Rob. Edited by - Rob Walker on 10 Mar 2009 19:43:03
  10. The R500 pump is only good for 27grams/sec @3bar. I have run 280bhp / 2.3L with the R500 pump without a problem but it is working near full capacity.
  11. Standard Rover Ash, 214 216 218 416 418 1996 onwards
  12. The sump can be changed without removing the engine. If you remove the large blue nut and there is no bearing material lodged in the gauze filter then all should be fine. Just have the sumpan repaired.
  13. I think you will find that the threaded plug base is made from ferrous material. Go on worrying about HGF if it pleases you I don`t care
  14. Its is most likely that water has got down the plug hole in the head then dried out when the engine got hot leaving a fine rust deposit. This ususally happens when washing the car. Some owners put a dustbin bag over the cam cover when washing the car to stop the water getting in . Some also forget to remove it afterwards until it starts smoking. 😬 Rob
  15. Use 0.25 . This allows you to run the crossplies on track and the R888 also without a problem. You cannot do it the other way round as the 2 degree ears will rip up the inside egdes in no time. Rob
  16. As Oily said , Clifton Paints Ltd , Bedminster Bristol tel 0117 9231178 0117 9660321, I could pick up for you. The problem is that you would be applying it over the old stuff which is not ideal. Edited by - Rob Walker on 28 Jan 2009 08:47:01
  17. Compomotive CXR ultralites are a good compromise IMHO . With the 3 piece split rims its all to easy for a careless tyre fitter to buckle the rims for you and the crack testing of the centers after any track use is a pain in the A.
  18. TF is the easiest route, junk the VVC cams and fit BP285H cams and a pair of TB`s you should get 190 bhp
  19. Impressive site Simon but £1144.25 for a basic stage 1 porting job on a Duratec head is pricey. Considering that the going rate for a quality hand ported head to stage 1 is around the £500 mark. Edited by - Rob Walker on 26 Jan 2009 08:58:56
  20. I am sure that I have a spare in stock your s for £10
  21. David, There is a stock fuel rail and reg on ebay under caterham parts £5, this will suit your needs. The autoteknics airbox kit should have the fuel rail spacer mounts to suit your bosch injectors. Rob
  22. Could it be that the small battery within the key dongle needs replacing??????? I presume its a tiny Lithium battery??????
  23. David, JC50 /125mm deep, you need at least 25mm clearance from the ram pipes. Rob
  24. Ammo, I had uprated U/J `s fitted to my prop a couple of years back. Sorry I cannot find the invoice but it was all done by Chards , 1 Cole Rd , Bristol.Tel 0117 9717341 IIRC the cost of the bearings and a full balance and repaint was £80. The guy commented that the original u/js were the cheapest/lowest spec available and not up to the job. My prop was also bent by 3mm and out of balance by 20 grams at one end. Excellent service from Chards Rob
  25. Sorry I have never had an 1.8 apart either. I would agree with Ammo it would make sense that the combustion chambers may be smaller. Unless you are seeking more than 280 bhp then any 2L /2.3L head with suit your purpose. Rob
