  1. Typical losses with a modern high flow cat are around 2%. The problem using a cat with a car that uses a lot of full throttle / acceleration fuel enrichment such as a tuned caterham is that this tends to overwork the cat as the mixture is constantly rich and above the ideal air fuel ratio of 14:1. I have seen the ceramic matrix melt into a solid block.

ET 24 for the 8.5" rims and I would recomend ET19 for the 6.5" I have tried the standard Caterham ET24 on the fronts and 185 tyres rub the wingstays ET 19 are perfect. Deal direct with compomotive you should be able to haggle some discount, good quality wheels that are both round and run true unlike others I am not allowed to mention. Rob
  3. Nick , I am interested, can you describe the style of the table and chairs and comment on their condition, are the table and chairs solid oak ? Where about in Wilts are you ? Do you have a contact number that I can call you on? Cheerio Rob Edited by - Rob Walker on 17 Nov 2009 17:57:04

If you run without rear wings this can also help or you could inflate the tyres to 100 psi stop them distorting or drive slowly through the corners.

The Mich 23/57/13 rears are too wide for the S3 caterham they rub both the wings and the radius arms/watts linkage arms under hard cornering no matter what offset you order or how stiff you set up the car.. The 16/53/13 are ok and will fit nicely on a 6.5" rim with offset ET-19. Rob
  6. Paul, Mitchell Cotts bought the rights to manufacture the plate diff from ZF about 2 years ago so it should be a new one. It has taken them so long to get into production if indeed they have that Titan and others now supply Caterham . ZF was a good product Rob
  7. I would send it back and let them fix it. I have tried several times to seal duff caterham ali triple pass rads using epoxy without any success. Rob
  8. Brand new Rover K series 1.4 complete bottom end , comes with oil pump and water pump. The unit is suitable for upgrading to a 1.6 by swapping the pistons & liners or if you want to go bigger swapping the crank ,rods, liners &pistons. I can also supply a good secondhand complete 16v standard head. I want £400 for the job lot. tel 0117 9239941 or 07963 834138 Rob
  9. the VVC HT leads are 15mm longer than the stock Rover leads to accomadate the taller cam carrier.
  10. If you like lots of torque fit a 2.3 duratec. IMO the k is a great engine no question but keep it to sensible power levels if you don`t want grief . I have run lots of spec`s of K but liked my 186bhp 1.6 the most. I built an all steel 1.8 235bhp and found it needed lots of maintenance to keep it reliable and I was always worried about a failure and the total loss of all the expensive parts. A mild tuned 2L or 2.3L duratec is a joy to own and needs little maintenance and is the most cost effective option if you want big power. Rob
  11. WB suggest you put out a wanted for a set of adjustable platforms to fit your exsisting billies. You will than be able to drop your ride height to around 70mm road to sump clearance. BTW 200lb front spring rate should be Ok for road use. Have you bee out for a test ride yet??? Rob
  12. I also wanted to add that if you want to try a change of plug then go up to an 8 , you won`t do any harm going to a harder plug it will simply foul or be hard to start if its too hard ( cooler). Rob
  13. I can well understand your confusion about hotter or colder plugs. You are getting mixed up between a plug running hotter and a plug that will run correctly or be suited to running at a higher temperature, they are opposite. What you have read is correct if you go down to a 6 the plug will run much hotter on its electrode and may damage your engine due to pre ignition. A 6 is rated as a stock plug heat range for a K engine and not an R500 with a high compression ratio. Sounds like you have a flat spot and I doubt it will be the spark plugs causing the problem if BCPR 7ES are fitted .
  14. If you want to try a higher heat range/harder plug then the the next one would be NGK BCPR 8ES not 6ES. Your plugs look OK to me, the electrode and ceramic insulator have a light grey deposit and show no signs of blistering or the sharp edges of the electrode burning off. Rather than guess how your engine is running throught the rev range the only sure way is to put it on a rolling road under load and have the air/fuel ratio measured throught the rev range, then you will know for sure that all is hunky dory. 15. At fast idle 2500 -3000 rpm CO2 should be lessthan 0.3% vol HC2 200 ppm vol lambda 0.970- 1.030 natural idle 450-1500rpm CO2 0.50 vol These are the limits for a Rover 1.8K with catalyst fitted Yes the emissions should improve as temp increases and should only be checked at full operating temp. Yes emissions can be expected to rise as the engine wears. Rob
  16. I covered mine with black car apolstry fabric fixed with spray on carpet adhesive. Another idea I had was to use wet suit neoprene the nylon faced stuff. If you want just a smooth hard finish then coat the foam seat with car body filler rub it down and spray it with the colour of your choice. Gaffa tape looks naff and goes sticky when the sun hits it, it will muck up your race suit, yuk Rob
  17. I have also had trouble with my ZF diff when using the Ford Oil. I was loosing drive in slow left hand corners. Changed back to Castrol Hypoy LS and the diff is working again .
  18. Spotted the Raceline cam cover
  19. Tight steering is most likely to be that the steering rack needs adjustment.
  20. Steve, The chrome rods need to be held in a hydraulic press with about 10 tons pressure on them to hold whilst you put a tommy bar through the eye and unscrew. IMO you are wasting your time attempting to do this in the vice all you will do is damage the rods. Rob
  21. Richard, I would use both, thats what is recomended in the orginal build manual. Rob
  22. Colin, The system is proved by Ford and Cosworth, why look for a problem that isn`t there? The early Ford fuel rails used to be equipped with a damper but this is now deemed no longer necessary and has been deleated. Rob
  23. Paul, The ford fuel rails are single ended ie they only have one connection being fuel in. All the latest Caterhams are plumbed this way. I take your point that it would be better to site the reg after the fuel filter but as you know the fuel pipe after the filter is steel so this makes this difficult. In practise there isn`t a problem with any pressure drop along the line. Rob
