  1. 0.5mm or .020" is too small. .060" is considered min safe clearance. I should also point out that if your piston has been hitting the gasket /head then its possible that the piston will have sustained structural damage and also the con rod. Rob
  2. Keep the revs very low for a few seconds after start up to give the scavenge pump a chance to shift it back to the belltank.
  3. If the engine is running OE bores and its not been rebored & honed you can fill with the oil that you intend to run for the life of the engine, as Ellie Boon posted. Modern engines have such a good finish on the bores that it is no longer necessary to go through the process of running in with mineral oil to bed in the rings. However I choose to run with semi syth for a few hundred miles and then do an oil and filter change just to ensure that any unwanted particles that may be in the engine are removed. It horrifies me to think of modern cars going for 20,000 miles before the first service. Rob
  4. I bent a short length of 5mm screwed rod into a U shape and covered it with rubber heatshrink tube then fed the ends through the mirror base and fixed with two 5mm nylock nuts.
  5. Tool Station or Screwfix basics are around 50p
  6. Well if the dampers are fully extended and have the spacers in then they must be the pre 1996 dampers and are of no use to you if your car is wide track sorry. Phone numbers 0117 9239941 and 07963 834138. Apart from a letter from the Royal Mail I am still waiting for the compensation claim for the lost alt, I will let you know when its settled. Rob
  7. Wild Bill, Still struggling? Its simple if you are winding up the adjustable platforms and compressing the springs and the cars ride height is not increasing then the dampers are at full travel and are not long enough if you still have insufficient sump clearance. I have some 27mm spacers to convert narrow track to wide track damper length and also spacer to increase spring length if you need them. IIRC your car is narrow track so therefore if the dampers are too short then they must have come off a pre 1996 car that ran the short dampers. More confused, I hope not. Rob
  8. The purple pump is a vane pump the gold pump is a gear pump. The gold pump was introduced as it is more efficient at high revs, in say the K R500 application or R400 race cars. No it is not advisable to run the same pulley as the purple pump runs a big 100mm dia pulley to gear down the shaft speed of the pump to reduce cavitation, the gold pump runs a smaller pulley. Rob
  9. If you want to run with the ford dead end fuel rail and the green bosch injectors then this needs to be mounted in the head. If you want to moun this on the TB`s then you will have to use the jenvey fuel rail along with spacers and an offset airfilter backplate or use the short 330 picos as others have posted. Buy Picos direct from Webcon. Rob

Considering that the caliper mounting lugs are cast ali I would have thought your brackets would be fine. Look nice hope the fingures have healed up
  11. Should be dowty seals not plain O rings. Go to any hydraulics supplier.

  13. I have one of the original CSR sumps spare if needed. Rob
  14. My advice would be to sell your caterham half doors and buy a set of MOG fibre glass doors as they fit well with the cage, the caterham ones do not.
  15. Great. I have a set of part worn acb10 SLR sizes 2x7" fronts with loads of tread and 2x8.2" rears still road legal worn to wear marks perfect for track hooning I also have a set of yoko slicks with plenty of rubber left and still sticky. I have given up on caterhm triple pass rads as they fail after short use , I now use radtec, get someone to pick one up from the Autosport show they usually have a stonking deal. let me know on the doors Rob
  16. I am still looking for a tidy pair of doors with mirrors for my 2004 S3 . Anyone gone aero that wants to sell. Rob
  17. I use Belgum Ali polish , my car has a mirror finish and only needs polishing twice a year. Great polish
  18. 226 bhp and 161 lbs ft torque out of a standard 1.8K R400. I don`t think so you must have been eating too much cheese On a serious note If the engine has been well looked after and run on good clean oil I would not expect too much wear to have taken place on either the pistons, rings or liners. If you are on a tight budget all that may need doing is lap in the valves and a reshim change the valve stem seals and a new set of valve springs. It all depends on what you find when you pull it to bits. Rob
  19. " Ok guys I have read very very carefully what you wrote " and ignored the lot of you , you have all wasted your time replying to my post. What a Cock
  20. 07 car that will be one of later Rover type driveshafts made for caterham by GKN powerline. These are not as strong as the seirra type but should be well up to 180bhp and haybusa torque. Has the car been involved in an accident? Edited by - Rob Walker on 8 Dec 2009 14:21:13
  21. Ignore myles DONOT wrap with PTFE tape, the taper thread should seal itself and you want a very good connection to the water rail or block.
  22. Ian you are correct , one fits all and weighs a ton
  23. The Caterham AP uprated master cylinder is a unique size specific to Caterham and I doubt that you will get the same size seals from anywhere else. Please post and let me know if you do as I would like to purchase a set of spare seals.
