  1. I have never heard of any normally asperated 2L Dtec making a true 300BHP although I believe it should be possible. I understand that the SBD 2L results were obtained from the rolling road ( track & road run by the two Steves) I suspect that a lot of choc hob knobs were eaten. As Mike says supercharging wil get you well over 300bhp, I think Mick Attree is up to 325 bhp on his As to cost, from my experience`you would require a steel bottom end , forged pistons, big valved CNC high port head, Dtec 80 cams, big TBs and dont forget the Hob Knobs. cica £12k using all new parts. 2. You will get increased compression ratio and a bit more power if you fit the correct forged pistons. Rob
  3. You may have a deep scratch on the face that contacts the seal, withdraw the drifshaft and check, sometimes its possible to remove the scratch with fine emery cloth, refit the shaft and all is well. Rob
  4. Several years ago I tried to run my VW golf off kerosene ( 28 sec Heating Oil ) and 200:1 mineral oil. It ran sick well down on power, hard to start and light coloured exhaust deposits. Did a bit of reseach and was told that the kerosne has a faster burn rate than gas oil and burns at a higher temp also has less lubricity. In short will knacker your engine. I must confess that I am a convert to adding 2 stroke to regular diesel, I recon that the science behind this is sound and have noticed 4mpg improvement and smoother running this is on a BMW 330D.
  5. IMO the sierra diff get noisy because it is out of the airflow and gets very hot. The ali case expansion rate is greater than that of the steel internals and thus the diff backlash which MAY have been set correctly when cold and static becomes excessive, then the noise/transission shunt increases. Of course it doesn`t help that the unit is about 2ft from your lug hole and mounted to the chassis with very thin metallastic bushes. In theory the BMW steel cased diff should not suffer so much from this problem , I have no experience of these so cannot comment. One well known transission builder told me that he sets the diff backlash greater than Ford spec because the diff will be used on track and in competition and will tighten up due to expansion? I cannot agree with this theory and have tightened up my own diff which has reduced noise and shunt. Rob Edited by - Rob Walker on 25 Aug 2012 10:13:35
  6. No it should be a stepped steel post that has a small bit of plastic tube slipped over it to stop the clutch fork rattling and coming off. Agree the guage plate clutch arm is crude and even the uprated ones bend if a clutch stop is not fitted be warned. Rob
  7. Does not sound right Andrew and I would not expect the diff oil to go black ever. Sounds like its getter very hot. Rob Edited by - Rob Walker on 24 Aug 2012 09:47:50

  9. Why should the braided hoses damage your tube ? there is no movement. I have fitted several sets without a problem.
  10. Paul, I have a set of plug top HT coils if you need any. Rob
  11. coolant temp sensor that supplies ecu. check plug/connection. take the spark plugs out if one plug is fould suspect plugtop ht coil or its wiring. you would have got wet coming to combe , cheerio Rob
  12. The limiting factor with the focus Zetec is the pistons. The stock piston does not allow sufficient valve to piston clearance to allow optimum cam timing. You can have the stock pistons pocketed or fit some forged pistons to gain the necessary clearance. The focus 12 cams should be timed to lift 2.13mm inlet and 1.09mm exhaust at TDC. The cams should be timed using the cam followers on IN & EX number 8 thats the two at the rear of the engine. I think that you will struggle to get over 200 bhp with the 12 cams. Rob
  13. My experience with Ford 90 LS oil was not a good one in that my ZF diff lost drive in left hand corners on track, it was quiet though. I have tried various oils together with friction modifiers and my prefered choice is Castrol Hypoy 90 Limited Slip oil. The ZF diff works well with this oil in. 14. There should be no play or you will get long brake peddle travel and excellerated pad disc & bearing wear. Rob
  15. WB, According to my records your alternator had the cosworth 64mm pulley fitted. It should be black anodised ali and 64mm diameter. DO NOT loosen the crank pulley or you will loose the valve timing. I cannot help with the cause of the failure, apart from check thoughly all the connections. I have also had a failure my armature had gone open circuit. It is straightforward to remove just a bit of a struggle to loosen the cap allen holding the lower bracket to the block. Rob
  16. emerald displays the battery voltage whilst cranking, needs to be above 9v or you wont get a spark
  17. If the engine was for a S3 then it would be more of a decission but for an SV which is 600kg then the 2.3 is the one I would go for. Rob

  22. Cosmetically you could see were the swaged tops of the damper tubes had been forced open, no attempt had been made to touch up the paint or fit new top caps. They returned the dampers with a dyno printout graph showing all 4 to be performing the same but I could feel by compressing by hand that the units were all different. Put them back on the car and one of the rears started leaking again after six months. If yours are not leaking I would just leave um alone and put the money aside for replacements, refurb of THIS type of damper in my experience is false economy. Rob
  23. I had my billys refurbed by bilstein and thought the service was both expensive and a poor result. Advise u. save up for some better dampers Rob
  24. Put a dishwasher tablet in the cooling system and fill with water and bring up to temp to clean out the mayo in the cooling system. Oil change and some full temp running will soon boil off any water in the lube system. Good luck enjoy the Iberia trip> Rob
