  1. I just refitted mine and the eight nuts were all different tightnesses so the gaps were all different, consequently getting the mixtures right was impossible I now know. Feeler gauges no not really. I used a vernier caliper, the internal measuring legs, set to around 2mm from manifold face to carb face, using one corner that was already about that, then adjusted all others to match, which with that first gap fixed tight was easy (ish!) to do. The inner lower nuts can be difficult when all components are in place (Dellorto). I will be checking them again per mike7 above.
  2. any chance this is a parasitic drain? Possible culprit being alternator given master is "off". same age K car here, had that issue.
  3. R500K Year 2000 I found mapping made little or no difference (with Cat). However, balancing between the throttle bodies was what it was all about; that was after finding the Caterham branded Titan throttle boddies were goosed and had to be replaced. But there was a trick, we have an emissions test device at home. I've long wondered if maybe the club could buy one to lend out (they are expensive). The limits (here in CH) for my R500K are CO Under 0.5 vol % , HC below 100 ppm, CO2 Above 12 vol % . You could ask a garage to test just this for you (but here that costs £50 a time minimum, hence our own device https://www.kane.co.uk/product-selector/automotive-emission-analysers I THINK mine is an earlier version of the "4" - although mine offers the crucial HC.). TBH armed with a tester it's just a matter of patience.
  4. Is the Oxred version waterproof? (SBS isn't)
  5. yes me too a bit of electrical sticky tape over the too bright blue light.
  6. I've used a "rebag" from Softbits for many years, in my S3 all my camping gear goes in it, colman tent, gas, burner, camp pan, thermarest etc etc Any hiking gear or biker gear usually works. no need to book anything, just drive til I drop and land at the nearest camp site, or (rarely) wild camp. Nearby rivers can be freeeezing cold meltwater to wash in.. 😉. that was Norway... Heavy use of compression sacks. note: rebag is not waterproof so everything in it is in ziplock bags. p.s. PEC is this SV or S3? !!
  7. yes exactly and it now works perfectly; which took me a loong time, replacing most of the components.the unpressurised bottle is of course under management by mother nature's atmospheric pressure. Just fasciinates me how they did things so effectively before expansion tanks came along.
  8. I'm looking forward to the challenge of how low I can get the emissions from my 1987 BDR, carbs no cat. It's fine as it is, I just want to explore 🙂
  9. I had spax which were well goosed so I/we fitted Bilstein. I don't know the spec, maybe this pic will allow someone to identify. Adjustable platforms seem to me to be a must. Just spent 11 days (every other) blatting in Corsica, never gave the suspension a thought. and watch out for the front lower sleeves not being a perfect fit because these days "one size fits all" that size being metric. sixspeed with 4:1 open diff.
  10. UPDATE: Now ordered online. ======================== It may just be! There do not seem to be any available anywhere on the planet - I need "long reach" in the 14mm - which is a separate adapter part number 4055D (and now ordered in the UK). Also the long viewing tube. I guess yours are not going anywhere soon so I'll wait and see. Thank you both 🙂 I can't even find the workshop version that has 4 . Many sites claim to have these until one engages in. the order process. Incidentally the reason it is still around is bikers use it. 11. Wanted: Gunsons Colortune kit 4074 That's the one that fits 14mm spark plug thread for my BDR https://www.gunsonshop.com/contents/en-us/p209_G4074-G4171-G4172-Gunson-Colortune-See-Through-Spark-Plug-Kit.html Anthony
  12. so, after all this it turns out I was ignorant (no longer!) of a crucial gap measurement. When bolting (nuts) the carbs to the inlet manifold, with the rubber "washers" in place, it is crucial that the space between the carbs body and the face of the inlet manifold is identical all the way round. I found my top ones all slightly different so fixed that. Then I bit the bullet and checked the lower ones, very difficult access once everything has been fitted, here's my note of that work: so, checked the lower carb bolts x 4. Front two ok. Rear two: rearmost a slight tighten, the next one (so three from the front) needed a lot (in these terms) of tightening to narrow the gap to the same as the rest. I THINK it is this barrel that has been “backfiring” inside itself so this explains why, air getting in. A real wrist bending job inside there. Best done when refitting in the first place if only I knew then what I know now. (Just to be clear, these "bolts" are nuts on fixed threads from the inlet manifold.) as ever my source of reference is: How to Build and Power Tune Weber & Dellorto Dcoe & Dhla Carburetors
  13. The one previously sold from the USA for 120 USD. I’ll add a pic later Anthony
  14. Thanks nigel that could be interesting - any idea the airflow property of it? I know one R500 has a 16" fan so I suppose if the nose cone dimension has not changed bewteen my 1987 BDR and the late 1990s R500 K it should also fit. Bigger the better to feed my three row radiator when iunder 40mph. edit: I found this https://www.radtec.co.uk/shop/spal-fans/spal/11-va09-ap8c-54s/ seems they fit up to 11" so unless yours is bigger you can relax with my thanks. edit2 in fact no need to do anything as I have now ordered a 14" fan from CBS https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/14-electric-cooling-fan Thanks for being willing 🙂 Anthony p.s. I am now told my rad is also a Radtech Extreme but with my old fan.
