  1. If anyone has time this weekend would it be possible to measure the OD of the top bar on this style of roll bar, and the approx ID of the two holes that go through the roll bar, Car is still in Skye and I am not, but I want to order some bolts to start fabricating a camera mount, many thanks in advance Tim
  2. Ahh the beauty of inboard Discs/Drums, don't get wet 😬 Tim
  3. Can't remember why "it was explained to me in the past, but old age you know" best to ping them off in reverse if you have room, although thinking about this now I think that was drum brakes on Mini's, I guess with discs its irrelevant, mine always stick slightly even though Handbrake is never left on, Garage is bone dry and I roll the car into garage without using any brakes, Just give a little more power and they ping off. 4. sounds a bit rough tho 😬 Tim
  5. Didnt ask but what size is the raceco you have got fitted, I had a 5" CC can on the CSR and it was silly loud, as the car is mostly for touring with SWMBO I had a 7" can made by a local exhaust specialist and now its like a little mouse when cruising and not very loud under hard acceleration. Have you done everything you can with the setup you already have, maybe worth having a conversation with Hayward and Scott to see if they could make a bung that would fit Haward and Scott obviously the one in the pic would not fit but they might have some other design ideas Dont think Dynatech vortex cones go small enough to help Tim
  6. Anthony there is a Calculator here which can give you a quick guide to attenuation over distance might help Tim
  7. Hm just noticed you link to similar figures although for your link I can see no reference to the conditions of the test, eg Tick over or 5000 revs or cruising speed etc. and to answer your other question dB is an absolute measurement of "noise" dBA is a filtered measurement which tries to approximate what the human ear hears IIRC (I realise thats not scientificaly correct but its close enough to get the different meanings over) Tim Edited by - tbird on 20 Jan 2011 00:33:19 Edited by - tbird on 20 Jan 2011 00:46:57
  8. Anthony Hi, nice to see you back these are some comparisons I found that may help you get some idea of comparative sound levels Here are interior sound level figures reported by Car & Driver for the Insight, along with some other cars that we selected for comparison purposes. Idle Full-throttle acceleration Cruising at 70mph (117 km/h) Honda Insight 44 dBA 75 dBA 75 dBA Honda Civic Si 39 dBA 84 dBA 74 dBA Honda Odyssey 39 dBA 72 dBA 68 dBA Honda CRV 44 dBA 81 dBA 73 dBA Neon LX 46 dBA 81 dBA 73 dBA Chrysler LHS 40 dBA 72 dBA 68 dBA Lincoln LS V-6 49 dBA 75 dBA 72 dBA Audi TT 51 dBA 80 dBA 73 dBA Porche Boxster S 49 dBA 88 dBA 75 dBA Bearing in mind these are interior sound levels I think you will have fun trying to get any Caterham below 73 even limited to 5k revs, but more importantly every other car in this list would also fail, so maybe you have been given some duff gen. Tim
  9. Ian maybe these would also fit the bill Ray, not my car, but I also use a Zipka head torch (older and cheaper model) on the Roll bar, looks slightly neater with the very fine cord Tim CSR 200 Aztec and Black

    CSR Spare Tyre

Martin Hi, have you ever had to use a front tyre on the rear, the perceived wisdom would be a difference in circumference of 3.6 % across the axles could damage the Diff. I guess if you have done some decent distances then the Diff can take it. Tim CSR 200 Aztec and Black

BTW to answer you original question about availability MOG racing have them here, not exactly France or Belgium but at least not water in the way, Probably worth giving Jaochim a quick call to check stock if you want complete piece of mind but I think he carries stock normaly Tim CSR 200 Aztec and Black

    CSR Spare Tyre

the 20mm will effectively be split top and bottom so 10mm higher at wing, thats still getting on for 1/2inch (for us old fogies 😬) not sure I have that between trailing edge of wing and tyre, maybe worth a test if you have a friendly tyre fitter with a tyre in stock, I cannot measure as car not with me at the moment. CSR Spare Tyre

Suspect it won't fit under front wings, using this calculator If I have done the maths correctly (not a given ) the overall diameter of a 195/50/15 will be about 20mm more than the 195-45 15 Tim CSR 200 Aztec and Black Edited by - tbird on 12 Jan 2011 11:17:37

    DVD recorder

Just on the off chance any one got a working DVD recorder they don't need, just for recording terrestrial tv. Mine has packed in and could do with one for a few months until we go Digital Cheaper the better 😬 or decent donation to NTL + P+P Tim CSR 200 Aztec and Black Edited by - tbird on 11 Jan 2011 22:01:19

Probably not, have always been a Glass 1/2 full kinda guy, and as you say "damn fine touring cars", so I will just get on with what I fancy and see what life brings 😬. Tim CSR 200 Aztec and Black

    CSR Spare Tyre

Yeh I know that's true, but I don't think you can feasibly carry two spares and still carry touring luggage, and is it that difficult to source CSR tyres, as I said I had a load of contact numbers with me for local Caterham dealers and local Members along the way, I was amazed i was rarely more than 150K from an agent. Now maybe they would not all have CSR tyres but it gives some confidence, If we worry about Flats, Clutch cables, overheating, accelerator cables et al we would never tour, I think that 2 or 3 cans of weld, and a repair kit certainly give me enough peace of mind to tour. If enough people are concerned why dont all of us who tour organise with someone like MOG to have a few common sized tyres stashed there, although I would be surprised if he doesn't have a good selection anyway, we could club together and buy them up front and then we would at least know there was a good chance of tyres a quick courier journey away from most of the touring areas, and maybe a set somewhere in mid France. Is that not what your European breakdown cover is for, to source such parts as are needed to get you going if you break down Tim CSR 200 Aztec and Black

    CSR Spare Tyre

This repair Kit was recommended to me by tyre man and GT40 rep owner. Also when on euro blat last year I made sure I had the addresses and phone numbers of all the European Dealers and folk like joachim westermann at MOG, and local BC members close to route. You will always be fairly close to someone who can help , where ever you are in Germany, France, Italy, Austria. Tim CSR 200 Aztec and Black
