    Best jack

Same as above Costco jack in another guise. they pop up in Costco every so often for about 80 quid, and very occasionally very cheap, but when very cheap seems to, usually, be a store based offer rather than nationwide Tim
  4. Ahmed you have to ask for the Manilow Mantle Designed by Martin, Image Here although I must point out he obviously stole the idea from my thoughts as I have been considering making something very similar for a while . Tim

    garage floor paint

Isn't a tiled surface prone to being extremely slippery with wet footwear and things like WD40 over-spray, I know grip surfaced quarries would be ok, but have never seen these in white, I am presuming you are using some form of ceramic as you say you can scrape epoxy off them . Tim

    garage floor paint

@Nigel is the garage attached to house, is there a damp course in the garage walls and if so how high above the garage floor, could you afford to lift the height of the garage floor by about 1.5 inches if its not attached to house damp course is irrelevant. I rent a garage with a damp floor , enough to cause quite a lot of condensation in garage in winter. what I did was put a couple of layers of visqueen down, with edges 2 to 3 inches up walls then laid some 2 x 1 tanalised battens across garage at 24" centres, just fixed them at either end of batten with concrete screws, laid another 3 layers of Visqeen loose on top of battens and again up walls, then put 1/2 shuttering ply on top, and snug to the walls, screwed into Battens, and cut off excess visqueen, seems to have made a vast improvement. Had to make some very simple ramps to get car up garage lip, just a couple of bits 6" x1.5" about 2 feett long with a chamfered leading edge. Have now got a nice dry wooden floor which could be painted , all for less than £100 if I remember correctly Tim Edited by - tbird on 15 Apr 2013 00:35:23
  8. re compression was thinking more around valve adjustment rather than rings, in fact could timing be out Tim
  9. guess the first thing two things to check, are do you see a decent spark and how is your compression. sorry just read 3rd build in 6 years, those suggestions too obvious how bout plugs sparking in wrong order, leads not correct Tim Edited by - tbird on 14 Apr 2013 21:49:43
  10. NoLimits did Evans ever get back to you with more info Tim
  11. that doesn't sound like a diode problem in Alternator, odd, but not diode pack, probably best not to mess with anything on the car this year just stick to driving it Tim
  12. 1st dibs on 10% of the lottery win then 😬, i'll stick my 10p in the post when we win Tim
  13. presume ignition light goes out, you can still see 14 + volts with a blown diode but light will stay on. other than that *thumbup* *thumbup* *thumbup*. 😬 Tim
  14. If you have started the car the ECU and Immobiliser should be OK, also you would have probably notice the ignition light, if you had fried a diode the ignition light would have probably stayed on after engine started, so maybe you have been lucky, but yes still best to check for 13.8ish volts across battery when charging , The spark on disconect could have been current being drawn by ECU and Immobiliser protection ccts, fingers crossed for Lucky , if no damage obvious after checks might I suggest its a good week to buy a lottery ticket 😬 although still cannot think of a single reason that battery would be fubared, after all they are designed to dish out 300amp + for seconds Tim
  15. Could do, if polarity reversed it would just see the diodes as a short cct, across battery, some cars have a fuseable link in series with battery, but I doubt that would blow fast enough to save diodes, think they were about 80amp, http://www.cdxetextbook.com/images/rectification_01.jpg Tim Edited by - tbird on 11 Apr 2013 01:01:23
  16. Try returning it as faulty to the supplier *nono* *nono* 😔 Tim
  17. Hmm, 0v with battery disconnected is not good, not sure I would be very optimistic, but still surprised its taken out all the cells may well have also taken out diode pack in alternator, Tim
  18. When you say things got warm, exactly what got warm. excuse possibly idiot question but, as its brand new, has battery any electrolyte, what voltage do you get across the terminals Cannot think of anything that can knacker a battery that quickly that doesn't involve a lot of smoke getting loose, as above electronics may get damaged but connecting a battery backwards shouldn't damage battery, ah sorry just read advert, sealed lead acid so it has electrolyte doh Tim Edited by - tbird on 10 Apr 2013 21:53:32 Edited by - tbird on 10 Apr 2013 22:00:37
  19. Spray wf-40 into the elbow Is that special lube only available to Platinum membership holders Tim
  20. Can you take battery out of boot, or use a spare battery and use some jump leads to connect positive directly to +ve side of solenoid and negative to a clean bolt head on Block somewhere, just to rule out long cable runs, then see if it starts sparking, given that you are testing spark by earthing ground electrode to block. Also if its Lumenition or indeed any electronic ignition be careful handling the plug leads, my Mini had a nasty habit of the spark tracking down the outside of the lead, gives you a hell of a belt, but does prove its a good spark 😬, Tim Edited by - tbird on 6 Apr 2013 02:27:20
  21. having said that, with the Evans coolant the system is not pressurised so leaks are less likely and fine aerosol leaks which, I think, would be more likely to cause fire should be impossible. Tim edited to remove references to the Welsh national vegetable 😔 Edited by - tbird on 4 Apr 2013 19:42:17
