    SNOW - UPDATED

Urgent need for snow, don't suppose anybody got any lurking in the corner of garage, its just not the same without it ☹️ Tim Edited by - tbird on 25 Dec 2013 13:06:16
  4. Quoting susser: To put it simply: If you draw the turning circle arc for your car; drawing arcs for each front wheel from a point extended perpendicular to each wheel at it's centre to a line extended from the rear axle, the lines from each front wheel should intersect the line extended from the rear axle at exactly the same point. It will only work for every angle of steering if your Ackermann set-up is perfect (Unlikely, even for VW), then whether the vehicle is moving backwards or forwards, the tracks of the front wheels should be exactly the same. For a more eloquent explananation, this is handy. Drat, forgot how to do the link wossname. Forgot to mention that this is not an Answer, more an illustration of how steering should work. 5. been thinking about spare wheels for CSR for a while, and not sure whether I have had a good idea or a ridiculous idea, I have confidence in BC to advise 😬 problem being rear wheel larger than front, so different rolling radius / circumference , so if you carry a rear spare it wont fit under front wings and if you carry a front spare it may wind up the diff. if fitted to rear. I wonder if two space savers could be carried, should be approx same physical size and weight as a single rear wheel but you could have the correct rolling circumference for both front and rear. over to CSR owners and anyone else who wishes to put me straight Tim Edited by - tbird on 20 Nov 2013 22:50:03

    Wiper Blades

Intermittent Ha Luxury, mine don't even self park, need to remember to switch off just in the correct orientation 😬 but actual they do clear the rain pretty well even without Rain X, although a set on the inside could also be useful sometimes, I suppose they could be the original set fitted though Tim
  7. don't know of a boot bag, but oxted do bulkhead bags here I use one of these http://www.force4.co.uk/7310/Gul-Waterproof-Holdall.html in the boot of the CSR, so you might want to check measurements if you are not an SV, its squishy, totally waterproof and is a brilliant fit leaving a little space at either end for bits and pieces, in my case tyre pump at one end and first aid kit at other end, I would imagine the problem with "fitted" luggage in the boot would be getting it in and out past an FIA bar then past the boot cover even with it undone it gets in the way, also remember the floor of the boot is larger than the opening at the top. The Gul bag is bendy and pliable and as water and, to an extent airtight, you can use it as a compression bag Tim

    Dad's car!

Ed, may come to nothing but my young nephew's car may have just become terminally ill and may be interested, will let you know asap but may be a few days, don't refuse an offer from anyone else but don't go scrapping it or giving it away for a couple of days if you don't get any other interest. will get back to you cheers Tim
  13. yep new throttle spring, but I think as important was a new map. some more reading here here and here haven't read all the ay though all of them but lots of ideas to get you thinking, they are fantastic when running nicely so keep going 😬 Tim Edited by - tbird on 4 Oct 2013 22:56:30
  14. when you say judders backwards and forwards, do you mean what is often refered to as Kangaroo hopping , that is a known problem with CSRs, not sure if the problem still applies at your level of modification, there was a Caterham recall/fix, which I will look up for you OK pdf is http://uk.caterhamcars.com/sites/default/files/content/uk/documents/csr260_tech_update1.pdf, you may need to create an account with Caterham to download and it does specify CSRs with original equipment, so not yours but may give you a starting point Tim Edited by - tbird on 4 Oct 2013 22:16:40
  15. Jez cheers I did not think that through properly did I 😔 I did not consider a complete redesign of a unit which worked more efficiently, brain got stuck at using same unit (cycle wing in this case) and adding something to improve down force, I will sit in corner writing "I am Thick" until advised otherwise Tim
  16. It was this I was commenting on in a later post Anthony, There are no available items that will do what Andy's wings will do. They are using the same concept that F1 teams use to reduce drag and increase downforce. This is achieved by creating a low pressure vortex to the sides of the wheel, which allows high pressure air in front of the wheel to be pulled sideways, thus reducing the lift and drag created by the high pressure in this area. I am no expert, just wondered if it was possible, not so much for mine but if drag can be reduced while increasing downforce it could be very useful on brothers car which is having problems with lift at high speed. Tim
  17. Mud flaps do not reduce the high pressure in front of the wheel, so do not have the same effect. Twas in response to water spray 😬 The CSR wings may reduce drag by small amount I suspect the CSR wings increase drag slighly as they are designed to give a small amount of downforce, along with the winglets, didn't think it was possible to both reduce drag and increase downforce at the same time , they do reduce some of the turbulence around the wheels simply by fitting more closely, this has the side effect of reducing lift slightly. Interested to see results from your friends tests Tim Edited by - tbird on 3 Oct 2013 21:48:00
  18. Mud Flaps fix that, Ikea Flexible chopping boards being one of the materials of choice if the black ones still available (unless you want to colour coordinate of course) Discussion Here Tim
  19. isn't that what the CSR cycle wing does, how would these differ Tim
  20. The answer is probably here or the linked threads, advice will vary from "a phone and a recovery insurance policy" to what looks like a complete CDK "just in case" 😬 Tim

  22. Is it past having a decent die run down it to clean it up , Tim
  23. when you are trying to solder wire to nipple do you tin both items separately then, as you mentioned earlier, splay the wires slightly, you could also flatten each wire slightly , then try using a solder bucket to finish the process, much easier to keep the temp up doing it this way. Tim
  24. At a guess soldering will fail because the cable is probably steel so not easily soldered ( I would argue not solderable (may be invented word) at all), would you be able to braze the cable to nipple. Tim
  25. Useful place IKEA, those chopping boards make excellent Mud flaps as well, have to be colour coded now as they seem to have stopped the Black ones. Tim Edited by - tbird on 15 Aug 2013 16:36:40
