  1. Agreed, coolant seems to be able to find its way through the smallest of possible routes and Mikalor clamps have often been the cause. Good quality stainless jubilee clips seal much better especially with silicone hoses.
  2. Are they the same as from a classic Mini?
  3. Cracking the flags here today, I’m 15 mins from Oulton, but rain forecast tomorrow from 10am 🥲 Not good.
  4. Tonight I refitted my Protechs …. to the front of my Mini! Great shocks and really good value.
  5. If you dig deep you’ll likely find a lot of us won’t buy from JWM irrespective of the T&Cs, there’s a distasteful history that exists. The T&Cs are just the icing on the cake, the last nail in the coffin, describe it how you wish. Stu.
  6. The T&Cs are very clear, not "unfortunate". It's just that most people don't read them.
  7. Basically anything that is suitable for lightweight backpacking works well with the 7. We use Snugpack "Softie 2" sleeping bags which pack really small plus small camping pillows, the inflatable pillows from Go-Outdoors are tiny when deflated. Each sleeping bag will actually fit inside a helmet which we've needed to do travelling to Le Mans. Inflatable sleeping mats from Thermarest are ideal particularly the shorter versions. The choice of tents is massive and basically down to how much you're prepared to pay. The Terra Nova Trisar 2 is about as small as you'd probably go, but there's cheaper decent tents from the likes of Vango. Shorter sleeping mats are better if the tent tapers a lot at the back end. Don't forget a couple of chairs and a table make things much more comfy, Helios do superb ones that pack really small but are expensive, lots of Chinese knock-offs available though. Stu.
  8. Me too Tom, so when the time’s right I plan to fit the Caterham o/e uprated version which I know is designed and made as “fit for purpose”. My 1999 car has its original stub axles and although there’s no sign of any issues yet I’d prefer to keep on top of it. Stu.
  9. Which I guess would invalidate your insurance if theres a failure and its stated as being race use or show use only?
  10. A little research suggests that wheel bearings need a “NLGI-2” specification grease which both of these are
  11. Silkolene Pro RG2 or Red Line CV-2? Has anyone any experience of the Silkolene (which I already have but have not used on wheel bearings)? I'm trying to avoid needing to buy yet another tub of grease! Stu.
  12. We use Sena on the bike, wires are a complete pita and if we’re staying anywhere we take the helmets in anyway so can charge them. We’ve found in the 7 wires aren’t an issue but you may of course prefer to be fully wireless. Stu. Edited to add … the quality of comms with the Autocom SPA is far better than we’ve managed to achieve on the bike with the Sena/Nav6/Garmin/BT solutions, if I could get a decent BT solution I would but as yet my personal experience is wired is better.
  13. Or a 4th option … second hand Autocom SPA with the headsets home-built into Peltor Optime ear defenders. Around £100 and gives you driver - passenger comms, and also if you want: nav input, phone input (via BT if you want to add it), volume increase based on ambient noise, and expandable to car-to-car if you want to add a PMR radio. It’s a tried and tested alternative and doesn’t involve charging anything. Stu.
  14. The breathing cap on the ally top plate is at the rear towards the gearstick, also it has an angled entry underneath so wouldn’t work for a dipstick without modifying. As an alternative I drilled and tapped a hole near the front of the top plate and fitted a blanking plug from Think Auto, 7/16” UNF because it’s an imperial chassis. I refilled the ‘box while it was out of the car and measured the oil depth at 70mm, I’m yet to work out a suitable dipstick because unfortunately the chassis rail above the front of the gearbox is in the way but I’ll get there eventually. Stu.
