  1. It is a tiny crack in the pipe where the forward mount is brazed to it. I don't have time before Friday's track day to take it off, fix it and refill the system ☹️ (nor do I have a new gasket). Have tried some of that metal epoxy but can't get it to seal quickly enough before the coolant starts to come through. I'll just have to keep an eye on the temperature tomorrow. Assuming it survives the weekend I'll take it off next week and get it brazed. Brent - can I give you a call next week to arrange getting it to you? Yellow SL #32

Come to think of it, when I jacked the front of the car up the drip stopped - doh. 😳 I guess the trauma of fitting the engine mount bolts was all too much for me.   4. Cheers - I'll try some chemical metal and if that doesn't hold I'll get it brazed. I did look on the website and it is £90 for a new one but it is a different design to the one I have. Looks like repair is therefore the only option. Yellow SL #32
  5. While replacing the engine mount bolts that mysteriously vanished (nightmare job ) I noticed some coolant on the oil filter. Traced this to a slight weep from the water rail where the forward mount is welded to it. I will order a new one but this will be too late for a track day and 2 sprints this weekend at Pembrey. Question is - will it survive if I keep an eye on coolant level? Is there a temporary fix I could get done - welded or soldered maybe - preferably without having to drain the coolant. If so any recommendation within 1/2 hour or so drive of Slough would be appreciated. If anyone has a surplus EU2 water rail then I would gratefully take it off your hands. Yellow SL #32

  8. Cheers Peter - I've just picked up some M10x30mm in 12.9 - is that likely to cause a problem? Also what is the best way to stop them coming out again? Loctite? Spring washers? Yellow SL #32
  9. Mark - yes it is. So I did MIRA without the LHS engine mount attached . See you at the weekend. I now know they are M10 X 30mm but still trying to find which spec. All the other bolts into the block appear to be 12.9 so I will get some of those from my local fastener comapny. Failing that I'll call Caterham but I really want to get them today so I can fit tonight. Yellow SL #32

  11. I had that problem with my 1.9K and replaced the starter with the Caterham "race starter" which is a Bosch unit. It works perfectly. The only snag was that it wouldn't fit under my 4-1 exhaust so I replaced that with a Caterham VHPD 4-2-1 - make sure it has the latest no 4 primary though as the early ones also will not clear the starter.   12. I used to use the 5-40 but now use the 5-50 which is supposed to be the same oil as the Caterham branded stuff made by Comma. Yellow SL #32
  13. 205s should be fine on an 8" rim. I'm running 205 CR500s and plenty of people run 205 A048s, R888s, etc.. The Mike Barnby mag wheels are 8.5" and people run 205s on those too. Yellow SL #32

    A few things to try would be: 1. A softer front ARB - or an adjustable one from Freestyle 2. Adjustable spring platforms and increase the rake (i.e. make the rear of the car a bit higher in relation to the front. 3. On the tyres front you could fit Yoko A048Rs and use soft compound on the front and medium at the rear but these are pretty sticky. Yellow SL #32
  17. If A021Rs are OK on a track day then you're not trying very hard . They normally go off after a few laps and wear very quickly in the dry - they do however make an excellent wet trackday tyre and a pretty good road tyre. Yokohama A048Rs are a much better dry track tyre and are OK in the wet as long as there isn't too much standing water. They tramline quite a bit on the road. CR500s are, in my opinion, the best road and multipurpose tyre for a seven. They are significantly lighter than any of the Yokos, the ride is better and they don't tramline. Ultimately they are not as grippy on track in the dry as the A048R but perform reasonably well on a wet track they also seem to last longer than the Yokos which makes up a bit for their higher price. I have not tried Toyo R888s which on the face of it seem a direct competitor for the Yoko A048R but others rate them possibly higher than the Yoko. As Danny says, some tyres are available in different compounds but, of the ones mentioned above, it only applies to only A048Rs which come in Medium and Soft. some people run medium rears and soft fronts but soft all round probably wouldn't last long.   18. Yes Robin we really, really are camping this time! Promise! 😬. Even if it is raining. Travel Inn is booked for Thursday night and we'll be at Pembrey for Friday and Saturday nights. Michael will be with us on Friday night and Tam is joining us on Saturday evening. Don't know about a BBQ - not quite enough room in the boot of the 7 although I am sure we could get a disposable one and cremate some sossiges whilst partaking of a beer or two. See you there.   20. Thanks for all your ideas so far. Camping only appeals if I can roll out of my sleeping bag and into scrutineering! Packing the tent back in the car to drive to the circuit and then unload just doesn't do it for me (lazy I know ) My last resort is the Travel Inn in Swansea but we'd much rather be close to the circuit. Simon - thanks for the offer and if we can't find any place close to Pembrey then we will gratefully take you up on that. Regarding the drinking habits of the other guests - the saying that springs to mind is "if you can't beat them join them". Yellow SL #32

  23. Just called the circuit and they do have showers but we can't camp on Thursday night ☹️. We won't have access to the circuit until 7.00am on Friday. Camping is available on Friday and Saturday nights. So we still need a hotel. The Ashburnham is virtually full (1 twin room left - no doubles). We'll check out the Adeline. Thanks - keep them coming! We were going to camp but, given that we are there 3 nights and there are no showers at the circuit, for the benefit of our fellow competitors' we are now looking for some decent, cheapish accomodation for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The nearest Travelodge is Llanelli and they want £76 per night so something cheaper would be great. Ideally we are looking for something up to 20 minutes or so drive from the circuit. Suggestions please. A nice campsite would be fine or a B&B/cheap hotel. Yellow SL #32
