  1. Buttons 1 plus 4 if it's an aftermarket one. If it's Caterham with 5 buttons then sorry can't help.

  2. It was the original tube. The replacement is made of much thicker steel. I was only saying a few weeks ago that I should replace it even though it was thoroughly checked 3 years ago before being re-powder coated.

  3. Mine failed during a trackday at Pembrey the weekend before last. Luckily the clonking from the rear made me come in and an inspection revealed splits in the tube where both dampers mounted.

    Pictures here.

  4. Simon - yes that page seems to be missing from my dictionary too! I was a bit surprised though when you attacked the back of my car with a hand wipe *tongue* - thought you'd taken leave of your senses for a minute. Good stuff though - removed the print from my DVA Power sticker *eek* as well as the dirt.

  5. I have a Caterham 7" race exhaust and in normal use it doesnt' ground. If the jubilee clip that holds the silencer to the collector comes a little loose then the exit pipe can drop and hit the ground. Also the exhaust is quite heavy and I seem to go through exhaust mounting bobbins on a regular basis.

  6. Simon - I took a few here including the excellent Paella and the sad sight of my car on a trailer (oh the shame 😬). Gill has some more which I'll try and upload tomorrow.

  7. We had a brilliant weekend.

It could have been a very different story though as my de-dion tube broke during the trackday on Friday. I thought I was going to end up going home on a flatbed but several people proved what an excellent club this is. My heartfelt thanks go to the following:

Gill, my wife, for driving from Slough to Redline in Caterham, collecting a new tube and bringing it to Pembrey (arriving about 9.00pm).

Simon Rogers for the use of his garage, tools and his labour plus feeding us and letting us sleep on his lounge floor. (Thanks to Fiona too)

Adrian Williams for trailering my car to Simon's and helping with replacing the tube.

Mark Durrant for organising all of the above in my moment of despair and then scrubbing in (or was that trashing?) my brand new sprint tyres.

Oh and not forgetting Mike Sankey for entertaining the ladies while the rest of us toiled away in the garage 😬. (Thanks for the mirror as well Mike *thumbup*)

  8. A pair of 185/60 R13 R888s in SG compound (the soft one) which still have a lot of life in them. I have used them for eight sprints. I'll post some photos up tonight.

£60 for the pair plus delivery or collect from Slough or Maidenhead.

  9. Thanks Mike - I won't be there until mid morning either and anyway I can run with the windscreen to start with.

I learned a long time ago that I am not the fastest thing on track *cry*.

  10. Just booked on to this *thumbup* so see you in the morning.

Has anyone who is going got a spare aeroscreen mirror or 2 that I could borrow. I now have a perspex aero which is fine for the sprint without mirrors but I guess I should have at least one mirror for the trackday.

  11. With the AP Suretrac the wheels rotate in opposite directions just like an open diff. They are an unusual LSD and don't seem to follow the same rules as the plate types. MOT brake rollers don't seem to cause any problem.

  12. Reverse the links and use washers to make sure that none of the thread sticks out from the nut to give the maximum clearance. Keep an eye on the tyres as under very high corner loadings the ARB can still touch the tyre. I have just fitted 235 rear tyres and it seems OK - will find out for sure at Pembrey this weekend.

  13. Gill has promised to slow down 😬.

I'll see how I get on with the 175 fronts but if 215s are needed then I'll either get another pair of 8" Caterham 8 spokes or look at the Rial rims.

Jeff - thanks for your comments.

  14. 235s now fitted and don't foul on anything while car is static. They are actually no wider at their widest part than the 205 Toyos on 8" rims as the 205s are stretched across the rim and the 235s are pulled in a bit.

The ARB must have been hitting the tyre when the car is cornering at max effort - stiffening the rear dampers should help reduce that but I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

  15. Adrian/Rob - thanks for the confirmation.

Rob - that was what I was afraid of. Not a quick change by any stretch of the imagination.

Still tempted by those Rial wheels though 🥰.

  16. Tyres just arrived much to the consternation of our receptionist!

Those Image wheels look quite nice but I have just been looking at the Rial items from Fluke/MOG. Now the question is what offset do I need to completely avoid any fouling issues? Looking at 8.5" rears and 7" or 8" fronts. Rials come in ET15 for 8.5" rears and ET21 for 7" fronts or ET9 for 8" fronts.

Just for my peace of mind please can someone comfirm how I tell whether I have the soft compound. The tyres are marked K21.
