  1. So which class is Simon driving in? *confused*

First it was class 5, then class 3 now back to class 5.

Is somebody on a wind up or can't Mr Rogers make up his mind? *tongue*

Or did Kevin just come to his senses? 😬

  2. It is unlikely that a motorbike lid will have the required approval. The full details are in the blue book but you need either BS6658-85 type A or A/FR, or Snell SA2000 or 2005. My wife has a motorcylce helmet that has BS6658-85 type A approval but most only have the relevant motorcylce approval. A good article can be found on Pistonheads here.

    See you next year!

  3. We made it to the party we were going to in Newbury by 8.00. Not bad since we left Aintree about 4:30. The M6 had slowed to a crawl due to the ferocity of the rain - I hit some standing water which forced it's way past the door and onto my lap *eek*. Once we were on the M42 things eased up and it was a relativley painless journey from then. We even saw another 7 on the A34 which was Jersey registered!

  4. Currently sitting in our Warrington office having driven up here yesterday and then from the centre of Manchester this morning - it's a bit damp out! I can confirm that part worn Kumhos are not good in standing water having a had a scary moment on the M40 yesterday.

I think this qualifies as a bit more then psychological rain 😶‍🌫️.

Weather forecast for Saturday shows a dryish morning and heavy showers in the afternoon.

  5. I ran my old one direct from the car for a couple of years but it packed up at Curborough a couple of weeks ago. The new one has a big notice in the box "Regulated 12V DC input only" and a wonderful Chinese translation "Unless follow above order, warranty void!"

In the interests of not blowing another one up I thought a regulated supply might help. The one from dogcamsport is purpose made and looks pretty neat. For £10 I thought it it would be worth a try.

  6. My bullet cam died a couple of weeks ago and the replacement has a big warning inside saying only to use 12v regulated supply.

Has anyone found a regulated power supply that will regulate car battery/alternator output to 12v?

The ones I have found in Maplin pass the car voltage straight through when on their 12v setting - i.e. un regulated (typically 13 - 14.5 volts).

Has anyone else had a bullet cam fail when powered from the car electrics?

Edited to say - now found one here 4th from bottom.

  7. I've had a look and there are no markings on the lenses. They do look quite different though. Picture here shows the 4.3mm lens on the left and the 8mm lens on the right.

The other end of the lenses is shown here but you would have to remove the lens from the camera to check this which would risk allowing moisture in.

  8. Mine mists up as well. It's been back to Stack recently because the tacho needle broke 😔 and they resealed it but it still mists up *mad*.

The tacho is a stepper motor hence the slightly notchy movement but I've never really noticed it so maybe there is a problem with yours.

  9. It's the focal length that needs measuring but I don't' know how this could be done easily. I'll have a look this evening at the 2 lenses I have at home and see if there are any distinguishing features.

  10. Dave - thanks that is just the information I need.

I like the idea of the Atom clamps but as you say they could mark the powder coat.

    Cheers,

    Shaun

Bri - I've driven the car with one of these fitted and a set of wheels/tyres on. They don't affect the handling hugely but I wouldn't be driving at the limit with it fitted anyway.

  11. Having borrowed one for an event, I would like to get a wheel carrier made along the lines of those that have been built in previous batches.

Would anyone have the Stauff part number for the clamps that were used?

I have seen these posted on another link and wondered if they would be suitable. They would certainly make it quicker and easier to fit the carrier to the rollbar - something which I found quite time consuming with the Stauff clamps. Is 100kg SWL likely to be OK for carrying 4 wheels (plus the weight of the carrier)?

If anyone has a drawing with dimensions that they would be willing to share with me I would be grateful.

  12. My bullet camera packed up this weekend so I need to get a new one. I have been using a 4.3mm lens which is OK but it is quite a wide angle lens and makes things look further away than I would like. I do have an 8mm lens but never tried it mainly because of the risk of getting condensation in the camera.

Has anyone used an 8mm lens and if so do you have some example video that I could take a look at.

  13. I've got one you could have if you get desperate. It's a bit tatty and the spherical bearing needs replacing (being lazy I bought a new wishbone instead of replacing the bearing). I'll go and take a couple of photos and post them up in a bit. Not sure what it's worth.

  14. Depends whether it is kit built or factory built.

A kit built car only needs to pass an emissions test if it is post 1st August 1998 (i.e. passed SVA).

For a factory built car it is more complicated and will depend on the engine that is fitted. Assuming the engine is from the same year as the car then any post 1st August 1992 car will need to pass an emissions test which requires lambda to be between 0.97 and 1.03 - effectively requiring a CAT. Extract from the tester's manual is here.

There are exceptions for some cars - see this flowchart here but I have no idea if any Caterham is on the exceptions list. If it is, then it MAY only need a CAT if it is post 1st August 1995. Searching the VOSA website can usually turn up the information but the full MOT manual is not available on there and the flowcharts are not on the motuk website. There are also exceptions for engines that were not designed to meet the lambda test and again a letter from the manufacturer may be required.
