  1. Oil is like religion - each to their own - do a search for the million and one threads on it! Obviously the Caterham one will be fine. The Halfords "track day oil" is allegedly the same stuff (but cheaper). Mobil 1 will be fine. Lots of people use the top end Silkolene product. Spark plugs - NGK BCPR7ES £10 a set from Halfords. 2. BTTT I haven't received anything yet so please let me have some material. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  3. Hi Steve - thanks for sending them. The sideways action photo was corrupted though so please could you resend it. Shaun Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  4. Use it on both sides of the screen. I use Rain-X (or Halfords equivalent) and very rarely have to turn the wipers on. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  5. Hi Steve, Any chance I could have a hi-res version of picture 14 (R212DKX getting nicely sideways at Fradley). email shaun dot elwell at blueyonder dot co dot uk Cheers, Shaun Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  6. Picture here. These are made from a lightweight material and the tonneau has 3 zips so you can have a full tonneau, a half tonneau + 1 half door or 2 half doors. It was made by Soft Bits For Sevens. The downside is that there are no elbow pockets as you would have with proper half doors but I don't find this to be a problem. I see no reason why you couldn't make the same set up from standard tonneau material and SBFS could probably do the job for you. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  7. I have a soft bits for sevens tonneau that unzips into half doors so no reason you couldn't make your own out of a tonneau. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing

  10. Hi Rob - my 2nd Llys-y-Fran time was 46.68 giving 97.60 points. Cheers, Shaun Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing

    Aeroscreens

Any of the "interchangeable" aeros from Caterham or RiF will fit using the existing windscreen bolts. The most cost effective is probably the one from Rif here which works out about the same price as the Caterham composite one. The clear ones from Caterham are cheaper (about £65 per side) but require drilling the scuttle (I used rivnutsw to mount mine). Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  12. Thanks for stopping Carl. We got home shortly before midnight. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  13. I have (maybe somewhat foolishly) volunteered to put together the end of season DVD. Please send me edited highlights of any video you have taken at events. This can be in car footage (your best run or an "interesting" run only please) or footage of other cars or people. Please try and keep clips as short and neatly edited as possible but in the highest quality you can. AVI or MPEG are ideal formats but I can probably deal with others. I would very much appreciate it if you can trickle this stuff to me throughout the season rather than send it all right at the end. You can email small clips or send them to me on CD (blatmail me for my address) or bring them to events. Please mark who they are from and from what venue(s). Thank you and I hope I can live up to Simon Rogers' excellent previous DVDs. Shaun Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  14. What a rollercoaster the weekend turned out to be. I fell like I spent more time under the bonnet than behind the wheel. Thank you to everyone who helped keep our ailing car going over the weekend especially Mark (even if he did drop a bolt into the bellhousing - I've never seen him look that panic stricken). Special thanks to Kevin for suggesting I check the CPS just as I was about to miss my second time run, therefore enabling me to set my best time. The car gave up again before we'd even left Wales and we completed the rest of our journey home on a flatbed. Hopefully I will have it sorted by the weekend but will see you all at Curborough whatever. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing

  16. Hi Chris - Asuming you have 13" wheels then 175/60R13 in Soft compound would be your best bet. They will be miles better than the Yokos. Unless there is loads of standing water on the circuit then they will be as good as anything else in the wet. I can't think of anyone who changes from the Kunhos when it rains. 215s won't fit properly under normal wings and are really too wide for 6" rims. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing

    Lucky Escape

Glad you are OK Nigel and hope the car can be rebuilt swiftly. Hope to see you back competing later in the year. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing

    Just got home..

Now relaxing with a beer after a great day in the sunshine (after getting a bit damp on the way there). Thoroughly enjoyed myself. I have volunteered to put the end of season video together so please send me your (very) edited highlights. Either your best run or your most "interesting" run. Spins, offs, or any other hairy moments - whatever is most entertaining please 😬 If you send them to me as soon as possible it will make it easier for me to find the time to put the video together. High quality is better - I can compress them as required. If they are too big to email then stick them on a CD - blatmail me for my address. Thanks Shaun Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  20. Yep - I've been in the garage every evening this week - not really doing anything major but all those little things that pop into your head. I'm looking forward to Saturday but definitely a bit nervous - still that's half the fun. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing

Demon Tweeks. Having messed one up though, Gill got something similar from a local sign supplier. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  22. I am not 100% sure on this but my understanding is that the superlight cage cannot be used with a windscreen so that rules that one out. If you decide to fit a roadsport cage keeping the windscreen then the standard hood will fit. Many people (myself included) prefer the Soft Bits for Sevens half hood for the following reasons: 1. Its much quicker/easier to fit 2. It takes up very little space in the car 3. It is far less claustrophobic 4. The windscreen/sidescreens don't steam up The down side is that it can be a bit draughty at speed and you will get spray coming in the back so you still need to wear a waterproof top. I haven't used the Caterham hood once since I have had a half hood. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  23. Practice is a bit unusual in that you only get 1 practice run but it is 2 laps. You line up as for timed runs with 5 cars. 1st car goes, 20s later 2nd car goes, etc. when you come round to the start/finish line you keep going for a 2nd lap. At the end of the 2nd lap you come in. Timed runs are a single lap. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
  24. Bit of a story but... I compete in the club speed championship and am one of the few who drives to all events. In 2007 at an event in Llys y Fran (south west Wales) it bucketed down with rain and my wife and I (along with Tam and Michael Calvert) got absolutely soaked. in memory of the event, Michael got some "team stickers" made up and Drowned Rat Racing was born. 25. Thanks Guy - those are indeed the sizes I have (and that Fastener pack reference) so I opened the holes out a bit with a round file and the strut is now fitted. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
