  1. Picture here. These are made from a lightweight material and the tonneau has 3 zips so you can have a full tonneau, a half tonneau + 1 half door or 2 half doors. It was made by Soft Bits For Sevens. The downside is that there are no elbow pockets as you would have with proper half doors but I don't find this to be a problem. I see no reason why you couldn't make the same set up from standard tonneau material and SBFS could probably do the job for you.

  2. Any of the "interchangeable" aeros from Caterham or RiF will fit using the existing windscreen bolts. The most cost effective is probably the one from Rif here which works out about the same price as the Caterham composite one. The clear ones from Caterham are cheaper (about £65 per side) but require drilling the scuttle (I used rivnutsw to mount mine).

  3. I have (maybe somewhat foolishly) volunteered to put together the end of season DVD. Please send me edited highlights of any video you have taken at events. This can be in car footage (your best run or an "interesting" run only please) or footage of other cars or people.

Please try and keep clips as short and neatly edited as possible but in the highest quality you can. AVI or MPEG are ideal formats but I can probably deal with others.

I would very much appreciate it if you can trickle this stuff to me throughout the season rather than send it all right at the end. You can email small clips or send them to me on CD (blatmail me for my address) or bring them to events. Please mark who they are from and from what venue(s).

Thank you and I hope I can live up to Simon Rogers' excellent previous DVDs.

  4. What a rollercoaster the weekend turned out to be. I fell like I spent more time under the bonnet than behind the wheel.

Thank you to everyone who helped keep our ailing car going over the weekend especially Mark (even if he did drop a bolt into the bellhousing *redface* - I've never seen him look that panic stricken). Special thanks to Kevin for suggesting I check the CPS just as I was about to miss my second time run, therefore enabling me to set my best time.

The car gave up again before we'd even left Wales and we completed the rest of our journey home on a flatbed. Hopefully I will have it sorted by the weekend but will see you all at Curborough whatever.

  5. Hi Chris - Asuming you have 13" wheels then 175/60R13 in Soft compound would be your best bet. They will be miles better than the Yokos. Unless there is loads of standing water on the circuit then they will be as good as anything else in the wet. I can't think of anyone who changes from the Kunhos when it rains.

215s won't fit properly under normal wings and are really too wide for 6" rims.

  6. Glad you are OK Nigel and hope the car can be rebuilt swiftly. Hope to see you back competing later in the year.

  7. Now relaxing with a beer after a great day in the sunshine (after getting a bit damp on the way there). Thoroughly enjoyed myself.

    *wavey*

I have volunteered to put the end of season video together so please send me your (very) edited highlights. Either your best run or your most "interesting" run. Spins, offs, or any other hairy moments - whatever is most entertaining please 😬

If you send them to me as soon as possible it will make it easier for me to find the time to put the video together. High quality is better - I can compress them as required. If they are too big to email then stick them on a CD - blatmail me for my address.

    Thanks

    Shaun

  8. Yep - I've been in the garage every evening this week - not really doing anything major but all those little things that pop into your head. I'm looking forward to Saturday but definitely a bit nervous - still that's half the fun. *smile*

  9. I am not 100% sure on this but my understanding is that the superlight cage cannot be used with a windscreen so that rules that one out.

If you decide to fit a roadsport cage keeping the windscreen then the standard hood will fit.

Many people (myself included) prefer the Soft Bits for Sevens half hood for the following reasons:

    1. Its much quicker/easier to fit

    2. It takes up very little space in the car

    3. It is far less claustrophobic

    4. The windscreen/sidescreens don't steam up

The down side is that it can be a bit draughty at speed and you will get spray coming in the back so you still need to wear a waterproof top.

I haven't used the Caterham hood once since I have had a half hood.

  10. Practice is a bit unusual in that you only get 1 practice run but it is 2 laps. You line up as for timed runs with 5 cars. 1st car goes, 20s later 2nd car goes, etc. when you come round to the start/finish line you keep going for a 2nd lap. At the end of the 2nd lap you come in. Timed runs are a single lap.

  11. Bit of a story but... I compete in the club speed championship and am one of the few who drives to all events. In 2007 at an event in Llys y Fran (south west Wales) it bucketed down with rain and my wife and I (along with Tam and Michael Calvert) got absolutely soaked. in memory of the event, Michael got some "team stickers" made up and Drowned Rat Racing was born.

  12. 2nd question of the afternoon:

What size bolts are used to bolt the petty strut to the new Caged (2 diagonals) FIA bar?

There are 2 bolts at the bar end and 1 at the chassis end. I am fairly certain that the fastener pack I got was for the old style bar and the bolts that look about right won't quite go through holes in the bar. It could just be the powder coat is a bit thick but I don't want to run a drill through the hole unless I am sure that is the case.

  13. Car makes a tick/click sound from rear drivers side wheel once per wheel revolution. My first guess would be a stone stuck in the tyre (they are soft Kumhos) but I have checked and can't find one. With the car jacked up and wheel turned by hand there is no sound.

Any other thoughts as to what I should be looking for?
