    I can offer some experience of both.

    1. My car had a Stack dash added to it some time after it was first built (but before I bought it). The Stack comes with all the wiring so you need to splice it into the existing loom where appropriate. The wires are designed for a 15ft saloon car so ideally need shortening which is a very fiddly task due to the wire being very thin. Some of the sensors are different to the std Caterham ones so you will need to replace these although you normally buy the Stack with the necessary sensors. RPM is picked up from the coil or the ECU, fuel level comes from the existing sensor and you can calibrate it, oil temp and water temp are different sensors, oil pressure I think is also different but I can't remember. MPH/odometer come from either a wheel speed sensor or a propshaft sensor (I have the wheel sensor). You can add a couple of others (air temp and fuel pressure IIRC) if you want.

    2. I have changed to the R500 switches recently as part of a complete re-wire of the car. They do not take much current so all should really use relays to operate whatever you have. They are all single way switches either toggle or momentary so do not deal with things like 2 wiper speeds/2 fan speeds (of course if you are aeroscreened/unheated this does not matter).The R500 has a custom circuit board (about £300) that deals with most functions. I had an auto electrician create the necessary circuits - it would have been much, much cheaper to buy the R500 circuitboard! The indicators/hazards were a particular issue. I have separate toggles to switch between wiper speeds/fan speeds which is not ideal. It is not a project for the fainthearted or anyone who hates car electrics (like me).

  2. Do you think May is to busy? No - fine for me. I actually think having gaps in the season is good because it allows some time for holidays. If the sprints were more evenly distributed it might be a problem to find 2 consecutive weekends free.

     

    Would you drive down to Llys y Fran as a one off event on any date? Not sure - it a long trek for a single event.

     

    Would you drive down for 2 Welsh Hills in one weekend? (Perhaps on the 11th/12th June). Almost certainly although 12th is Gill's birthday!

     

    Would you do an Epynt Double header? (I know you haven't been for the first time yet). Probably - have done all the other double headers when the first is not a championship event.

  3. Operator ignorance probably. I had the same problem at the tyre place near work - it was a case of "computer says no". I picked up the mouse to read the help text on it and the operator went ballistic. In theory you could select any car and then read the results but the operator I had wasn't the sharpeset knife in the drawer and couldn't cope with that! The place I normally use are quite capable of entering custom settings into their computer so I went back to them.

    Your suggested front settings are exactly what I have. I can't remember the rears.

The legislation that MIGHT mean you can't buy extreme track biased tyres doesn't come in until November 2012 and there is still no proof that R888, etc. will not meet the required standards as nobody knows what those standards are going to be. Even when the legislation comes in it won't apply to tyres already sold so you won't be asked to remove them.

    Buy what you want. If you are using R888 and happy with them then get some more.

  5. To my knowledge there are two main options (with a bit of variation):

    1) Caterham system. This uses the existing oil pump as the pressure pump and a separate scavenge pump. You have the options of a tank built into the bellhousing or using a separate tank.

    2) Pace system. This uses a 3 stage pump (2 scavenge and 1 pressure) and does not use the existing oil pump. Usually uses a separate tank but I see no reason why you couldn't use the bellhousing tank if you wanted to.

    The advantage of the Caterham system is that if you lose the drive belt the pressure pump will continue to work until the tank is empty of oil - if you rig up a belt warning light this could save your engine. The downside is you only have a single scavenge stage and it is alledged that the pump is marginal in its ability to scavenge properly. The bellhousing tank is a neat packaging concept but adds weight and the oil volume is quite small (about 5 litres total in the system).

    The advantages of the Pace system is that is has 2 scavenge stages. Downside is that if the belt goes then you immediately lose oil pressure. With a separate tank you have a larger volume of oil.

    Each system has it's supporters and detractors.

  6. The battery low message sounds like a problem that needs sorting - I've never seen this on mine. I guess the internal battery is to keep the dash settings when no powered by the car.

    Reference the condensation - it won't get any better if you get it resealed. I had to have my tacho needle replaced a couple of years ago (it snapped!) and Stack resealed the unit but I still get condensation.

  7. Class 5:

    Simon beat Adrian by 2/100ths and I trailed a distant 3rd (about 7/10ths). Mark had trouble with 3rd gear so never really got in the groove. Simon Jenks knocked a rear wing off but didn't notice 😳 until it was pointed out to him and Mark got a bollocking for stopping to pick it up. Gill beat her PB.

  8. 225 front is a common choice but 170 rear will be pretty harsh on the road. I ran a 250/150 combination which worked OK but was on the limit of road comfort. I have now switched to 225 front and 130 rear (but with Ohlins dampers).

  10. The startline at Harewood is concrete and grip varies considerably depending on the conditions. You need to get some heat in the Kumhos to get them to grip - a good burnout helps. I (and others) regularly get 64 feet times around 2.2 seconds or less.

    Set-up wise you need at least 2.5 degree negative camber on the fronts.

  11. No data logging as I didn't get time to set it up. I was surprised to still be closing on the straight. Another ten seconds head start would have seen me OK.
