  1. It is most likely to be fuel coming through the breather as described above but I had a more serious issue recently. I found that the outlet on the top of the tank next to the filler had cracked around the weld and fuel was spilling out of that. I sorted it with some Leak Fix.
  2. Blimey Nick, you kept that quiet - and after all the work you just did on it.

    Shelsley Walsh

Had a great day today at Shelsley - blue sky and sunshine and very warm. the quicker of the 2 at 31.78s. I think the winners were: Class 1 Paul Brown Class 2 Matt Jenkins Class 3 Richard Price Class 4 Mike Sankey Class 5 Mark Durrant but I stand to be corrected.
  5. Chris - as you know my new class 5 engine was down on power from what was expected. I am investigating every option. Talking to Steve at Track and Road, airboxes can have a major effect, expecially with cams that have a large overlap. It is usually pulse interference effects and the big car manufacturers spend millions on developing the right length inlet tracts to eliminate these effects. Just ask any Duratec R500 owner what effect the "quiet" airbox has on power! My plan is, as you guessed, to have a swappable system, mainly so I can prove on the rolling road if the airbox is a problem or not. If it is then I will continue with the swappable system, if not I'll just leave the airbox on. Anyway my existing airbox is very close to the 90mm trumpets so I would like to use one that sits further away - I was looking at your airbox at Gurston and it looked to be nearer the outside of the car so would hopefully give more clearance. If I can find my missing 20 horses I will be a happy man.
  6. Thanks David - would be useful to see if/where it will foul. It looks like the deep Jenvey backplate might be the answer, as it should clear the fuel rail, coupled with a shallow Jenvey/Pipercross filter to sit inside the bonnet. Will then need to try the BS airbox to see if that fits inside the bonnet as well. Getting somewhere now - thanks for all the replies. Shaun
  7. Jake - any chance of a couple of pictures? Thanks, Shaun
  8. Thanks for the ideas - looks like I need to get myself a Pipercross backplate and see how it fits. Ideally the filter and airbox will stay within the confines of the bonnet as I don't really want to chop a hole in it. I'm guessing those are 90mm trumpets (very nice )- do you think you could have got the filter inside the bonnet? Do you think a flat backplate would fit or is the dished one required for clearance? Thanks, Shaun
  9. Has anyone got such a set-up with Jenvey throttle bodies? I know there is a solution for roller barrels from Bernard Scouse/Auto-Teknix who supply an airbox that fits to the standard backplate so that you can swap between standard foam filter and airbox. I guess a RB backplate could be modified or a blank cut from a template - I just wondered if anyone had actually gone this route or if there is an easier solution. I already have a BS airbox fitted so if there was a foam filter that would fit the BS/Jenvey backplate then that would do.
  10. Circuit open from 07:00 Signing on from 7:15 Scrutineering from 08:15 If walking the course need to be clear by 08:30 Driver's briefing 08:30 Practice starts about 09:00
  11. Here you go Ian - not the neatest install but you get the idea:Dry sump breather pipes. Edited by - Shaun_E on 21 Jun 2011 17:46:56
  12. I've only got the indicator pods so can't comment on the rear blocks (my rear light blocks are aluminium from a bulk buy a very long time ago) . The indicator pods are very smart.
  13. Hi Ian - I had similar issues with my original 1.9. It seems to come down to the breathing. I now route the dry sump tower hose to the cam cover (where the breather from the airbox/filter backplate was attached) and the other cam cover outlet (probably blanked at the moment) to the catch tank. I just Araldited a large grommet into the hole in the air box backplate where the cam cover used to breathe from. If you need a picture, let me know and I'll post one up tonight. Shaun
  14. 7 Tips should be able to sort you out.

    - not good enough to beat Chris though.
  16. I wonder indeed 😶‍🌫️
  17. You could try Fluke motorsport (UK sellers of MOG CF parts) or MOG direct.
  18. The lesson was particularly in-depth as it took 1 1/2 hours to change the front right damper. Removal of the adjustable item was swift and painless but I believe the car tried to reject the inferior Bilstein damper as it took lots of swearing to get it to fit. For some reason the dampers are just a fraction too long to fit with the suspension at full droop (ARB removed to help), requiring the use of a jack and a pry bar to compress it enough to get the bolt through . We would have changed the other side as well last night but Caterham sent me the wrong damper mount spacers . I wish my car would stop fighting me ☹️.
  19. Sorry - should have been clearer - it's the IFM one I used.
  20. I sourced mine from the link above and it works perfectly.
  21. Just ask the tyre fitter to put the weights at least 1 inch in from the inner rim - that way they don't foul the de-dion. If you look at the wheel on the car it is obvious how far in from the edge they need to be.
  22. Yes the 6 x 13" wheel will fit on the back. If you have a set of track day wheels and tyres then you will want all 4. It's the fronts that wear the worst (and usually the front left as most circuits are clockwise) unless you spend the whole day sideways .
  23. Well the R400 VHPD engine was fitted on Sunday. Next stop the rolling road. Still trying to work out how to disguise the Ohlins as Bilsteins and how to hide the remote reservoirs.
  24. If anyone has any more then we would like 2 as well please. Shaun and Gill
  25. Deal - bring them along with the engine 😬
