  1. There is one point that keeps being raised which I have to take issue with.

It's not about whether the normal bar is on a par with the half FIA bar.  It is about whether the normal bar is suitable.  BookaTrack and every other professional track day organiser consider it suitable.

No track day organiser considers any roll bar suitable - none of them mandate any form of rollover protection at all unless you are running slicks in which case a number of TDOs mandate a cage (I'd have to find their T&Cs to get the exact wording). So the TDOs are making no judgment on suitability of any bar. You can remove your rollover bar completely and still take part.

This makes the clubs decision a simple one and entirely dependent on the comparative test results. There is no absolute standard to meet but simply a comparison between the FIA bar (without petty strut) and any other bar. The result of the comparison will determine the clubs decision along with legal advice on any proposed rule change.

    BaT T&Cs ref running slicks:

    14. If you are using your own vehicle at a BookaTrack.com Event then it is only permitted to use road tyres unless fitted with MSA approved type roll-over protection. If a Caterham type vehicle then it must have a full FIA approved roll-cage and if a saloon or hatchback car then it must have a half or full roll-cage.

  2. The first time this happened on my ST8130, Stack assured me "this never happens sir" *rofl*

Mines currently in the same state again! When I get round to removing it from the car I'll be sending it to 213 Performance to be fixed. Don't forget there's a discount with them if you get it done before end of Jan.

  3. You can measure what you currently have. There is a good guide to this on the Image Wheels website here: http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/alloy-wheel-technical/ Offset is 1/2 total width minus dimension C.

Some makers include the bead and some ignore it so there may be minor differences between wheels. The critical thing is not to go bigger on the offset as that will move the wheel inner rim closer to the wing-stay which could cause the tyre to rub.

  4. For the single diagonal bar, there was a 2 piece support - half of it is this: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/headrests/3521-steady-bracket-headrest-assembly-fia-de-dion.html?search_query=head+rest&results=13 and the other part had the plate on it a well as a similar "U" clamp but Caterham don't seem to list that anymore.

You'll have to put a wanted request out to see if anyone has one kicking around. I'll have a look and see if I've still got mine from years ago.

  5. If you have the roll-bar with a double cross-brace, there should be 2 holes - one in each brace, just behind the headrest. A bracket is attached with bolts to those 2 holes and then the long threaded bar of the support goes through the bracket secured by a nut either side. Sorry, I can't find a decent picture to show it.

  6. There is one thing to check with any very early boxes and that is that they have a Ford splined input shaft and not a Rover one. Some early boxes used the Rover spline pattern mated to a Rover clutch. These were all supposed to be recalled and replaced but some may have missed the recall. Guess how I know this! *frown*

  7. Good point Nigel. Super soft tyres will get wrecked and what about the people on hill climb slicks? The contact issue is also critical. If you crash on a sprint then that's your own lookout but if someone hits you, will the MSA pay? The more I think about this the crazier I think it is - and this from someone who races!

  8. Having no timing for practice makes no sense. The old way of practice at Goodwood was odd enough but at least the first lap was timed. I can see this putting a lot of people off especially those who aren't confident sharing a track with other cars. This changes the whole nature of the event.
