  1. Gearbox problem is most likely the detent spring. Spoke to Steve Perks and he's sending me a new spring and lock screw (to replace the one that appears to have fallen out).

A drive around our very bumpy roads has failed to reproduce the problem although reverse still has a tendency to jump out. Hopefully the stronger spring will cure this. Can be fitted with gearbox in-situ so fingers crossed that's it.

Thanks for offers of dual drives - you can all breathe a sigh of relief now *hehe*

  2. Videos from this weekend. Sadly we ended up going home early due to gearbox issues but managed to get a couple of timed runs in today.

    Saturday T3 72.26s:

    Sunday T2 66.66s:

Hopefully we'll have the gearbox fixed for Gurston next weekend!

  3. You're right Michael - I hadn't spotted that.

I expect it will eventually filter down to Speed Events. Currently if you drive a Racing or Sports Libre car over 2000cc you need a National A and that's changing to over 1100cc.

  4. Just spotted this as well for all those competing at Welsh events:

Drivers 9.2.1. Throughout practice and Competition, upon exiting from and until returning to the Paddock, when the driver is seated in the vehicle he must wear clothing, helmet and goggles complying with K.9 to 11 or, where appropriate the specific Class regulations for Drag Races. Overalls homologated to either FIA 8856-2000 or FIA 1986 standard are mandatory, with the exception of Standard Cars (11.9) where overalls must comply with (K)9.1.4. Only FIA homologated rainwear is permitted. Competitors are required to wear flame-resistant gloves (K.14.3(e)). An FIA approved FHR device, fitted in accordance with FIA regulations is mandatory for all drivers with the exception of Period Defined Vehicles, Road-going Series Production Cars and Road-going Specialist Production Cars. All these items must be produced for inspection and approval at scrutineering.

  5. As spotted by Michael, this only applies to Rallycross

Looks like most class 4 and up competitors will be needing a National A licence for next year. I would start collecting your signatures now in case it gets implemented.

The proposal is that if BHP at the wheels / weight in kg > 0.34 then you'll need a National A.

Anything over 180bhp at the wheels is likely to put you above this figure assuming most cars are no more than 520kg. My lardy 550kg car comes out at 0.4 (about 220bhp at the wheels)

I had to get 6 race signatures very quickly in 2016 to qualify for a Race National A in 2017 which is when it was implemented for racing.

  6. Hi Everyone,

I've created an L7C YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1gDchYCDrtlkzFR8tSZBZQ/featured

Not sure how best to run this yet but I've "liked" a few videos from various members and subscribed to their channels. Post your channel here and I'll add a subscription to it. I hope to upload some of our best videos here.

It won't just be for speed championship but I think it's our best bet for a head start. Will post on MT forum as well.

  7. V70a are also available in 215/50 R13. They tend to be wider than the nominal width suggests so 175 is the equivalent to 185 in other track day tyres.

    Possible combinations:
    175 front and rear
    175 front, 215 rear
215 front, 235 rear (which is what I have) but you'll need wider front wings and the right offset wheels.

  8. There are lots of campsites about so shouldn't be too much of a problem to find one. We've stayed at Nunnington farm in West Wittering before and it was absolutely fine - it's not the closest to Goodwood though (we weren't sprinting when we stayed there).
