  1. As we are now enjoying what might be called ‘the peak season’ for being out and about and enjoying your Seven, we are taking this opportunity to highlight several Club-organised events that will be taking place during the next month or so. We hope to see you at one or more of these activities and recommend that if you are thinking of participating, you act promptly to be sure of securing places before they are all taken. Club Trackdays Cadwell Park - Tuesday 12th June With less than two weeks to go, there are still places left for what is traditionally the social highlight of the Club’s trackday calendar. For those able to arrive at Cadwell Park on the Monday evening, there will be a members’ only hog-roast and private bar in the paddock area. The next day we will be providing seven hours of Club-exclusive track-time, starting in sessions and moving to open pit lane format. Our buddy system will be on offer, the ESV will be present and free instruction will be available for all. The price is just £195 for a car and main driver - great value for the chance to drive this fabulous Seven-friendly circuit whilst enjoying the company of your fellow Club members. Further details including an online booking form are available on the Club’s website, linked here: https://www.lotus7.club/whats-on/cadwell-park-track-day-provisional , or call the Club office on 01873 777303. Oulton Park - Tuesday 3rd July Located in Cheshire, easily accessible from the M6 motorway, Oulton Park has been a long-time favourite track venue for the Club, being a terrific circuit for Sevens of all levels. We are offering places in our Club-exclusive sessions that will run for 20 minutes every hour throughout the day at a cost of £229 for a car and main driver, inclusive of free instruction. As usual, we will be arranging a pre-event social and the ESV will be in attendance to reinforce our much-enjoyed Club atmosphere. Further details including an online booking form are available on the Club’s website, linked here: https://www.lotus7.club/whats-on/oulton-park-track-day-provisional or call the Club office on 01873 777303. Club Tours Le Mans Classic - Lotus 7 Club at Porsche Curves - Thursday 5th to Monday 9th July A unique opportunity to have a private tent pitch at the famous Porsche Curves at the Le Mans Circuit for this classic sports car event that runs every two years, using the full 13.65 km circuit that is also used for the annual modern-day 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Le Mans Classic of 2002 was the first time since 1923 that the full circuit, part of which is public roads the rest of the year, was closed specifically for an event other than the annual running of the contemporary "24 Heures du Mans", to allow car owners and gentleman drivers to experience what it must have been to race these cars on this circuit. The tour includes: Channel crossing, camping permit, general entrance and paddock entrance tickets, recorded delivery of tickets and Lotus 7 Club private parking at the prestigious Bugatti Circuit. A fantastic opportunity to see classic racing cars being put through their paces at a truly iconic location. To book a place or for more information, contact the Club’s travel and tour partner, Travel Destinations on 0844 873 0203 and quote Lotus 7 Club at Le Mans together with your membership number. Portmeirion 25th - 27th June Our second annual trip to Portmeirion, home of the Prisoner and the iconic Lotus 7. An opportunity to drive the ‘Evo triangle’, maybe take a trip down the longest zipwire in Europe, or simply relax in the village. Although technically bookings have closed, we understand some rooms are still available. Please contact the office who will check for you. Club Speed Events Sunday 26th August sees the Club organising the second of its “home” events at Curborough Sprint Circuit near Litchfield. It’s always a great event whether you are competing or spectating. Championship Coordinator Chris Bramall is keen to remind anyone interested in trying out this most accessible form of motor sport that they are welcome to take part. Yes, there are some safety items required (primarily an approved race suit, helmet, gloves and roll over bar, and an MSA Non Race B license has to be applied for) but the rewards are huge! Chris is also wants to point out that any novice planning to enter the 2019 competition can participate in the August Curborough round and still qualify as a novice next year. Chris is also interested in anyone who is not interested in competing but who would be is interested in helping out with scoring or other roles. compsec@lotus7.club This email aims to highlight just a few of the forthcoming events on offer to Lotus 7 Club members. For a more comprehensive list, look in the Diary section of Lowflying or in the “What’s On” area on the Club homepage www.lotus7.club Should you wish no longer to receive communications such as this, please contact memsec@lotus7.club to be removed from the distribution list. 2. The Memfast rivnut tool is the best one I've seen but not cheap. Plenty of cheap ones that look like a normal pop-rivet gun but they never last long and can be hard to use.
  3. LF Archive is online - Andrew's article is here: http://lowflying.lotus7.club/2013/2013_07_05_KClick.pdf The search box for this site is at the top right of the screen and is working fine. Search for MFRU yields plenty of threads on the subject.
  4. A great weekend. Hope you get your engine fixed quickly Simon. My T2 here:
  5. A few more videos have been added to the Speed Championship 2018 playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9w7vdck0C3XPGsK-Lsz_OhNMLqgwwv0U If anyone else has some good Caterham footage either in-car or, especially, some external shots, please post here and I'll add to the channel. A YouTube link is easiest but if you have the video hosted elsewhere, as long as I can download and re-upload to YouTube then I can still use it.

Gearbox problem is most likely the detent spring. Spoke to Steve Perks and he's sending me a new spring and lock screw (to replace the one that appears to have fallen out). A drive around our very bumpy roads has failed to reproduce the problem although reverse still has a tendency to jump out. Hopefully the stronger spring will cure this. Can be fitted with gearbox in-situ so fingers crossed that's it. Thanks for offers of dual drives - you can all breathe a sigh of relief now

    Blyton Video

Videos from this weekend. Sadly we ended up going home early due to gearbox issues but managed to get a couple of timed runs in today. Saturday T3 72.26s: Sunday T2 66.66s: Hopefully we'll have the gearbox fixed for Gurston next weekend!
  8. You're right Michael - I hadn't spotted that. I expect it will eventually filter down to Speed Events. Currently if you drive a Racing or Sports Libre car over 2000cc you need a National A and that's changing to over 1100cc.
  9. Just spotted this as well for all those competing at Welsh events:
  10. As spotted by Michael, this only applies to Rallycross https://www.msauk.org/assets/2018april25-speedeventsmeeting-forconsultationautoxrallx-1.pdf Looks like most class 4 and up competitors will be needing a National A licence for next year. I would start collecting your signatures now in case it gets implemented. The proposal is that if BHP at the wheels / weight in kg > 0.34 then you'll need a National A. Anything over 180bhp at the wheels is likely to put you above this figure assuming most cars are no more than 520kg. My lardy 550kg car comes out at 0.4 (about 220bhp at the wheels) I had to get 6 race signatures very quickly in 2016 to qualify for a Race National A in 2017 which is when it was implemented for racing.
  11. Hi Everyone, I've created an L7C YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1gDchYCDrtlkzFR8tSZBZQ/featured Not sure how best to run this yet but I've "liked" a few videos from various members and subscribed to their channels. Post your channel here and I'll add a subscription to it. I hope to upload some of our best videos here. It won't just be for speed championship but I think it's our best bet for a head start. Will post on MT forum as well. Shaun
  12. If it's the same/similar slave cylinder as used on Duratec cars then if you over extend it then it will go pop - it goes hard just before this point. A clutch stop is essential.

    Kaboom...

There’s an EU2 1.8K for sale on Facebook ReHab group if you’re interested. Seller is Trevor Newman
  15. T3 video here: Spot the slight mistake between Madgwick and Fordwater. Luckily no major impact on the time nor a car tyre-wall interface which is what I was thinking might happen at the time. An 86.nn s time entirely possible I think.
  16. It's pretty unlikely that you'll find one for sale as they are so sought after but Mike is still making them I think: https://racecoexhausts.co.uk/products/raceco-duratec/
  17. You may have heard or read about the new “GDPR” (General Data Protection Regulation) that comes into force on May 25th, 2018. The GDPR gives individuals more control over how their data is used and places certain obligations on organisations such as the Club that process the personal information of those individuals. The Club values your privacy and the personal information you entrust to us. We also take our Data Protection obligations seriously and we have therefore been reviewing our policies and procedures in readiness for the new regulations. We have been lucky to have been able to enlist Club member Fraser Levey, a senior Cyber Security / Data Privacy Specialist who helps large public-sector organisations meet their GDPR responsibilities, to advise us in this area. The Club will contact members in the coming weeks to explain more about our obligations and what we are doing to fulfil them. We will also ask members to read our updated policies and check that we have the required consent to continue to process your information.
  18. Hi Dave - hope you don't mind but I pinched one for a news item :-)
  19. Monday saw the running of the clubs second "novices track day" this time at Rockingham circuit near Northamptonshire. After a popular and successful event last year at Donington Park, the club chose the slightly more southerly Rockingham circuit to host this day full of classroom briefing, instruction from several qualified ARDS instructors and plenty of track time. Participants seemed to have enjoyed themselves: Brilliant format, excellent instruction, loads of time on track. Massively exceeded my expectations and a truly memorable day. A great day. Many thanks to all the organisers and instructors. Looking forward to the next one. There are more club track days confirmed including Brands Hatch Grand Prix and Blyton Park in the next month and bookings will soon open for Cadwell Park and Oulton Park. For full details of the club's track day program take a look here: https://www.lotus7.club/trackdays
  20. V70a are also available in 215/50 R13. They tend to be wider than the nominal width suggests so 175 is the equivalent to 185 in other track day tyres. Possible combinations: 175 front and rear 175 front, 215 rear 215 front, 235 rear (which is what I have) but you'll need wider front wings and the right offset wheels.
  21. I guess you could try asking Caged if they can make them: https://www.cagedlaser.co.uk/wp/ as they make the roll cages or maybe Arch still have the capability.
