  1. Hey novice...no one likes a smart a?*e *tongue* Rog
  2. Thanks to all for your advice - got home no problems after a pleasant blat through the Derbyshire/Staffs lanes 😬 😬 😬 *thumbup* *cool* Cheers Rog
  3. Accelerating away from a junction and holding car in third at c.3k rpm ready ot overtake truck my car ('91 Xflow on twin DCOE 45s), wnet sluggish, chuffed a bit, then smoke appeared from the bonnet by the filters. Engine also revved up to 3000 once I depressed the clutch. I managed to coast into a layby and kill the engine. Smoke disipated quickly enough. After a couple of phone calls I waited for c. 5-10 minutes and tried the car again. After a little persuasion it fired up and I completed the remainder of my journey (c.4 miles). I kept it to Rog
  4. just failed the MOT - need a new offside track rod end. Any body know the part number and a source in the Derby area. Is it a specialist part or is there a Lucas part number that will fit? just getting back into this repair it yourself game after a few years wallowing in company car idleness! Please take pity. Cheers - Rog
  5. I've got a good idea - living north of Derby - a trip across the old Cat & Fiddle to take a look at JP sounds like a fine idea. What a complete p****r! - Yes I'll watch out for plod! Julian T - I assume they would have a solution for my old '91 Xflow, which is still on its original Caterham exhaust (4in1)............... and where they in relation to that furniture shop Arghia thingumywhatsit at the bottom of the C&F Rog
  6. Went to Cadwell on 27th April - this was my first trackday. I have a 1700xflow and noticed no fade at all. As the other guys have said take as much advice / instruction as possible - take it steady at first and don't get too confident at the end of the day. I know my confidence overtook my ability in the last hour during the open pit lane - great fun but risky. Insurance - I took some out with Footman James and it cost £70.00. Expensive yes - but not in relation to side-swiping your motor. It's a risk for the individual to assess. Keep an eye on the water / oil / brake levels etc and enjoy - it beats decorating on a Saturday!!! Rog
  7. Thanks for your replies guys - I'll see how it goes Cheers Rog
  8. apologies to all those for whom this topic is old hat..but I'm off to my first (Caterham) track day at Cadwell Park on 27th Apr. Having looked at umpteen discussions on the dB levels of Xflow 1.7 - I've concluded that mine's going to be somewhere between 101-105dB. Is the more important factor the circuit and how lenient, or otherwise, the officials are? Any advice for a rookie is appreciated. Chris at Caterham Midlands sagely advised me not to bend it!!
