  1. I've managed to break the oil temperature sender inside the brass plug.

on removing the plug it has fixed to it some sort of filter that goes across the 'trough' at the bottom of the sump pan *confused*

Where can I get a replacement from 🤔

    Cheers

  2. now that I've got the new head back (thanks to Chris W and Antonio), I need to put the head back on.

I've drained the system as much as I can - drained the oil pipes etc. I know there will be dregs of emulsified water/oil in the system.

What's the best way of making sure everything is completely clean ...head off or on?(I've bought plenty of flushing oil)...is there a recommneded sequence?

it's now been six months 'sans 7' any advice is appreciated *thumbup*

I remember the 'all-kinds-of-weather' drive to your place on the first/second Sunday this year?

I thought I lived in a pictureskew corner of Derbyshire but I think you're corner of West/South 🤔 *confused*Yorks probably beats it. Having spent most of the last 2 months travelling I didn't know you and Lynne were off to la belle France.

    Enjoy your retirement and lesepting

  4. It has just occured to me that I'll have to look at replacing these soon. Any recommendations as to the manufacturer to use (current ones are Lucas)

The original owner of car put the 'big brake' kit on the front only. '91 Xflow

    cheers

  5. Having talked to Chris Wheeler earlier in the week, I quickly understood there could various other "not nice" permutations that could have caused the problem.

As far as I'm concerned the engine was built by RK using his knowledge and experience and that's why I'm returning it to it's place of birth. Anthony and RobG know the spec - and it's not worth me meddling with an all-steel specialist engine such as this. Anyone takes a risk when going down this route - I'll just be patient and let the guys who know what they're on about advise me - the morphine is now starting to work and I'm feeling quite mellow about it *tongue*...until I see the bill *eek*

Understand your point Tyrone but i'm not convinced any engine is completely bomb-proof particularly when you start to develop it.

Anthony -early morning runs in the Peak District and Cadwell helped me to get used to it 😬

Now I just need you all to pray to the great engine god in the sky *thumbup*

  6. putting a manual oil pressure gauge on the car on Saturday and cranked then engine over to get some oil in the tube, and...........a horrible fudge coloured fluid emerged ☹️ ☹️ ☹️.

    confirmed loss of compression with 9 bar on pots 1 & 4, 6 bar on pot 2 and3 bar on pot 3 ☹️ ☹️ ☹️

drained both oil(well sort of oil)and water (with oil in it) to find I had c. 7 litres of sludgy liquid *eek*

then removed the head to find the gasket intact and no real sign of water in the cylinders....so discretion being the better part of valour and having spoken to Chris at 7 Workshop I've decided that to tinker any further would extend my limited capabilities to far therefore the car is off the road until I get back from hols mid-August ☹️ ☹️ ☹️.

Chris can fit it in then and consult with the guys who know the history of the engine.

I'm not 'appy coz I'd just got the hang of the power delivery -but I'll just have to be patient *thumbdown*

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN...and bu&&ger

  7. an update. I've just inspected the cable - it's ok *thumbup* - however the bolt holding the clevis pin on is not *mad*- the head had sheared off allowing the cable to come adrift from the pedal.

I think I've got the biting point set too high and although I've got the hang of only dperessing the pedal until the springs can be heard rattling (method approved by previous engine owner *thumbup*) - I must be over-extending the travel to create that kind of force.

I also need to apply plenty of copper grease *confused*

this car continues to be a never-ending source of mystery and delight 😬

  8. Norman to answer your question according to the posting Rob put up when selling the engine it is a: Quarter Master Organic paddle clutch

hydraulic sounds like the long term solution - I'm going to try one last attempt with a cable + pedal stop, plenty of copper grease and taking out the rubber gaiter

    ....here goes
