  1. Wwll tis time to call on blat chat technical help line ! Its time to fit my front wings. I dont want to have the bolt heads through them so have some sikaflex on standby. Other than the obvious, ive removed all the paint on the tubes and rough up inside the wings them selves. The plan is to put a small amount of sika on the steel tubes and then eyeball the wings into position over the wheels (fitted) masking tape them in place then if they still look ok tomorrow a good coating of sikaflex all around the tubes and about an inch either side of the tube onto the wings. Anything ive missed? hints or tips to position them etc as I dont want to loose them on the B roads etc thanks !
  2. Yup thanks jonathan, sometimes i put my "thick head" on, still ive spoken to caterham 4 times over it and noone suggested that ! I thought IVA be about 3 weeks - its the job for tomorrow. Also need to get booked into Caterham for post build inspection too. i get side tracked and end up in the garage assembling rather than sorting it out... as for your wing and paint I shall let you guess why my rear wing was dispatched to dartford on friday way beyond a polish just glad its only paint damage and not fibreglass. Plus today it got an extra 3/32 hole though the side Drilling the poper hole on the hood (lower forward one by wheel arch) and the drill bit snapped resulting in the broken bit still in the drill going through the ally just glad its under the boot cover. I guess its been personalized now....... Clutch is bled (as far as i can tell i darnt try using it with the engine going until i sort some brakes out as the drive is downhill.... As for IVA guess who was too busy building to take pics ? ive got a lot of the car going together but only 1 of me with the car when the kit first went in the garage. Any suggestions on that one ? Id rather not start taking it to bits again but that dif is never coming out again.
  3. just tried it with the headlamp rocker switch on(full on not side lights) then the fog light and the full beam switch both work. So Im guessing thats how it should be just odd the rest of lights all work with the keys out ! Still not got my head round why the fuses are only live if the switch is in the on position, but if its working as it should thats good enough for me - just want it through the post build and IVA as fast as I can to use it ! Not doing bad only had the kit 4 weeks on monday, im on my last box only side screens, front wings, nose, bonnet and bleed the brakes to go. Oh and one rear wing thats gone back to be repainted...(dont ask what happened ! )
  4. A strange one. Still building the SV but getting close to drivable down the drive (best get paperwork away!) but the read fog light doesnt work nor main beam but the main beam does work on the flasher switch ? ive got the fuse box loose, with ignition on theres 12V on every fuse except rear fog,L and R side tail/ main beam, dip beam. If you switch on any of the lights, then you have 12V on the fuse except for rear fog. I give in im confused and out of ideas - any one got any suggestions whats going on with the wigly amps and volts ?

    filling gearbox

thanks for reply gary. problem solved it was obviously time for bed yesterday. this morning tube in and filling as a type. lets say its much easier to get a tube into a hole than a blanking plug..... suspension all together thanks gary, took 5 hrs for upper dif bolt. last resort was another bolt, remove the head and then shape the other end to a point. knock that in and follow through with long bolt. hope i dont have to remove it !

    filling gearbox

thaks for the replies - its not the getting the fluid in thats the problem, im struggling to get a small plastic tube into the fill holw to try to fill it ! The centreline casting mark of geardbox (Standard 5 speed) is centered to within 0.5mm of the casis frames so pretty central - but a right squeeze to get anywhere near the hole thank god i loosened it when gearbox was out. round two this morning.....along with trying to work out why the side lights/full lights switch works, the headlamp flasher switch works full beam lights flash, but full beam switch doesnt...

Anyone give me a clue/hints? whats the easiest way to do it ? i got the blank plug out but carnt get a hose fed into it to fill the gearbox. theres so little room i carnt even get my finger to touch the fill hole let alone feed the end of some 8mm outside diameter tube into said fill hole ??

    my 1st 7 build

Hi Guys help again. I see a lot use sikaflex to hold the front wings - what sort of sikaflex do you recommend seems to be a number of varying part numbers ? also how are they held on - bigfeet mentioned - where from which variety etc ? Thanks - diff time now .....but propshaft first
  14. Eugene - thanks a lot ! the only thing I hadnt tried having been looking at it on and off for 2 days. Now I can turn the steering wheel and things waggle at the front Thanks to tweekt too, but I got your post after i got back from the garage. Problem solved thanks guys, on with the build we go (although no rush looking out the garage door at the weather!)
  15. yup there the ones that came with the kit The thicker half (35mm ish) is under the rack, the thinner 25mm ish one is on top so i can only make matters worse by reversing them.. Edited by - pug7 on 3 Jun 2012 17:48:36
  16. dont know how you insert a pic into a posting ? dont have any online albums etc, but happy to email pic if thats an option ? As it stands, if you fit the uj to the rack and drop the attach bolt through, put the lower steering shaft into the other end the uj is sat on the chasis frame thats runs from the lower outer frame upto the upper centre - the rack is about 4mm above where it should sit "floating" as you carnt get the rack to sit on the chasis due the uj sat on the frame ? Even a big hammer wont help (no ive not hit it but did think about it !)
  17. rack is held in just with the bolts dropped through no nuts etc. will try an get a photo sorted....
  18. trying to fit the steering on the 7 build, seems no way to fit the u/j to the lower steering column and steering rack. The only way to get it on the steering rack is to undo the steering rack bolts lift the rack up an inch or so to fit, as soon as you lower the steering rack back down the u/j is jammed solid on the diagnol down chassis frame. Either im doing something completly stupid, or something is obviously wrong ? Any suggestions to save waiting till tues to ring the wizards at Caterham ?

    my 1st 7 build

2 weeks to go..... So bit of help request - dinitrol I assume its the 3125 that people plaster the car in - how much is req ? 1 litre be enough or 2 ltrs be better ? Whats the factory finish like underneath the car does it need coating with anything to stop stones/chips/corrosion etc ? I read somewhere about sticking sheets of rubber under wheel arches to stop the star shaped chips from stones in the fibre glass - any one done this or suggetions on the rubber/glue to do that ? Any recommendations for heat proofing the footwell on an SV ? seems to be a few comments of it getting hot around the feet. seatbelts - dont want the standard inertia reel - are the caterhan quick release 4 point any good or any other suggestions ? Thanks for suggetions in advance.
