  1. Currently have edtions 004, 017 - 094 (except 023) taking up space in my house. Free to a good home (although contribution to NTL would be appreciated). They weigh 45Kg so buyer to collect (although am happy to arrange something via GONADS) ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  2. Spotted by the Parkway tavern in Stoke Gifford... very new 7 reg DC07 *** Nice afternoon for it. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  3. Thanks Aves - have bought some myself as well (doors were getting very tatty). As SMT notes - it's not cheap, but a lot cheaper than buying two new doors! ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  4. It may be that the issue was always there. It's just with the extra power, you can push your car harder through the exit of the corner which makes the issue look more obvious. Other obvious things to look for when diagnosing understeer are the thickness of tge front ARB (thicker = greater understeer) and whether you've got a small amount of toe-in ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  5. I think I've got a spare set of cream injectors. Let me know if you'd like me to check (and make me an offer). ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  6. As many owners, 1400SS has found out, the throttle body is lovely, but the butterfly doesn't open completely. An easy thing to rectify. Stu - I'm assuming you kept your throttle body when you went to an 1800? In which case, our engines are probably very similar. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  7. Surplus to requirements. I was thinking about porting it, but will probably do the work on my current head if the time comes. Head is from an MGF which had done 44k miles. The engine had HGF, I would therefore recommend that this head is skimmed before using. Hence price of £65. Buyer to collect or can transport via GONADS. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  8. I've got Two Gates wheels on my car too (originally 1400SS). Not too sure why people would want to keep them - they weigh more than other 14'' wheels - which isn't great considering it's unsprung weight. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  9. I used to see that car all the time (used to live on Upper Belgrave Rd at the top of Whiteladies Rd). The car is F reg and tends to get used every day for commuting to work. Have never seen the car or driver at the Bristol club meet ☹️ ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  10. Which ECU are you using? As a thought, the car may have run when cold due to the mixture being richer. Once the engine had warmed up, the ECU automatically compensated with a leaner mixture which was made too lean by the condition of your air filter for the engine to work. 🤔 ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  11. 6 year old tyres don't sound like a good idea to me. The rubber does tend to harden over time, thus losing grip and the hardening of the sidewall (as you mention). Would also check the rear dampers work properly (easy test to do!). I can't work out whether you have a rear ARB. If you do, would strongly recommend you try disconnecting this as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  12. I suspect there might be a considerable (15Kg?) weight penalty for a DSG box. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.

    1400 K series

At the risk of stating the obvious, the 1400 K was also the base model of the Caterham range (the Caterham Classic) between 2003-2006. I had a 1400SS for 4 years (until I replaced it with an 1800SS) and think it was a lovely car. The Caterham 6 speeder was originally developed for the 1400SS and works very well with it (each gear change slots the engine at the start of the power band (5400 -7200 rpm). ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
  14. Have run both tyres on my car. A021 didn't like track work and whereas A048s seem to relish it. The break point on A021s is much more forgiving than A048s on the limit (A048s grip up to a point and let go quite suddenly). Cagey is right about the stiff sidewalls, which IMHO spoil the ride of the car and cause it tramline horrifically. A021s are better in the wet, but only when there's lots of standing water (I understand they're better at dissipating standing water). Probably due to a combination of tread pattern and tread depth. I suspect that the increased tread depth on the A021s is also a reason why they tend to last a bit longer. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.

    Tyre widths

I've got Yoko A048Rs 195x60x14 on the rear of my car. The outer 15mm on either side of the tyre does not touch the road, therefore my contact patch is 165mm wide. IMHO the tyre width can only be used as a "rough guide" (as it looks like you've realised)! ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1800 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
