  4. Thanks for the kind words Ben. Indeed we do have a great trip, but I wouldn't want people to think this is just an invite to join the LADS (although seveners are welcome to do so).

The items are available individually and people can do as they wish. We just need to recover some cash for the member of our party who unfortunately can't make it.

  5. It's the sender - They are poor.

    Buy a new one.

    Top Tip-

Usual cause of failure is ingress of water. It gets in around the terminal. Suggest you smear a little silicone around the gap between the body of the sender and the plastic around the terminal. It can't do any harm and my current one has lasted twice as long as normal.

  6. Andy

Dave H. fitted the apollo to his car and I think found the wire in the loom. He may be able to assist. He will be at LADS tomorrow.

    Top tip

I found using an indicator switch (oil temp/off/water temp) was the best way to go. There is some 'sticktion' on the guage and it helps to allow guage to drop and then read when needle is rising up - I'll explain tom orrow!!

  9. Top Tip:-

When you rebuild the axle. Put a bit of silicone into the end of the axle before you push in the halfshaft. This will seal the halfshaft bearing to the axle and stop oil leaking out onto your brakes. *biggrin* *thumbup*

Make sure you take it on a test run - trip to LADS meet on 1st Wednesday of the month would be ideal.

  13. Assume this is a Ford live axle.

The 4.11 is the ratio. You have a number of standard ratios to choose from with a Ford diff, normally anything from 3.54 to 4.44.

4.44 is the lower ratio and 3.54 the higher. Assuming you are happy with your current ratio then a straight replacement is the way to go. If you take out the old diff you can count the teeth on the crown wheel and pinion, (or whats left of them) and divide them to confirm the ratio. I think for a 4.11 the crown wheel has 37 teeth and the pinion 9.

Do you repair or get a new one? You'll be lucky to get a new one.

It really depends what the damage is. I would suggest you take out the diff first and have a look. Is it an LSD?

Likelihood is that damage will be to crown wheel and/or pinion teeth, or the pinion bearings.

Your options are to contact one of the specialist gearbox/diff builders (Road and Race, BGH etc.) for a rebuild or visit a scrap yard for one, although there are not many live axles around. The 4.11 was fitted mainly to Escort vans/estates.

If you need a slide hammer to remove the half shafts, I can lend you one.

  14. Not quite sure I understand your post. Spare is normally held onto 'Y' shaped bracket with 2 wheel nuts and Y bracket held onto car with a threaded bar which has a 'T' piece 'handle' to screw it up.

To secure my spare I then use a bicycle lock which I tread through the spare and then around the spare wheel bracket i.e. the one which is part of the chassis and which the spare sits on. Only costs a few quid.

  15. "VW Golf for 19 year old daughter"

That sounds like a good deal. Would you consider my 27 year old daughter and cash adjustment. Only fair to warn you she has a wedding planned for next year so you may find her running costs a bit high for the next 18 months.

    P.S.

    What colour is the Golf?

  17. Easy - difference between A021 and AO48 = AO27

    Sorry Andy - couldn't resist.

I run AO21s and find them a good tyre for the road. No experience of AO48's, but as far as I know from talking to others, I think they are better in the dry and probably wear a bit faster.

  18. Have you thought about throwing the T piece away and using an ordinary bolt? Makes it a little more secure as you need a socket/spanner to get the spare off.

  21. We don't have a vehicle that is able to transport our normal fridge on this years LADS to Le Mans trip.

We're therefore looking for a smaller one (or two) that can be transported in a normal hatchback type car.

We could also consider an old caravan fridge.

    Can anyone help?
