  3. Paul has the right idea. Use a vice with a couple of bits of aluminium over the jaws to protect the shocker. The aluminium is much softer than the shocker rod and therefore won't damage it. LADS Top Tip:- Place the shock absorber rod horizontally in the vice jaws in order to exert pressure over as much of the rod as possible. This will help stop it turning. 4. Alan LADS top tip :- It's difficult to get spanners onto hex head bolts to secure the runners to the floor, so use cap head or dome head bolts which use an allen key instead. 11. Just discovered that a contract has been signed by Yokohama to supply Brisca F2 stockcars:- "At the World Final at Arena Essex on Sunday 2 September, Brisca F2 Chairman Gordon Mc Dougall announced that after extensive testing and negotiations, the contract to supply tyres to Brisca F2 for the next three years had been awarded to Yokohama. The tyre, which will be legal for use from 1 January 2008 is the Yokohama 185/70-13 A021-R K12131 at a price of £36 59p + VAT each. This price will be maintained throughout the three years, subject to rises in RPI." As you might expect the deal is via George Polley. Looks like those of us that use these tyres can look forward to continued cheap prices. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 12. Peter T Thanks for your prompt reply. No its not turned blue. I don't think the strength of the shaft will be compromised - it is very hard material. Yes - the play in the shaft is as you describe. When the end of the shaft is suppoorted there is no play on the bearing and it turns v. smoothly. I'm therefore thinking the bearings are fine. Johnty You're right of course. The spigot bearing is only a very small thing and as such obviously doesn't take big loads. It's only in use when the clutch is depressed - hence I concur with your thoughts that sitting at lights with the clutch depressed is probably one of the causes. Dave I think I might tackle dismantling the gearbox myself to remove the shaft - I could just do with the correct workshop manual. I anticipate the shaft cleaning up reasonably. As you say the shaft should be much harder than the 'foreign' material. Thanks for the offer - I'll be in touch if I need the second hand shaft. Bilbo Not sure which CRB it is, although it's probably original and been in the car for 7 years and to be fair still appears good and doesn't appear to have contributed to the failure. I always change the CRB as a matter of course when I have engine and gearbox apart and CRB is getting on. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 13. Removed engine and gearbox today (not my car) to find that the spigot bearing had completely disintegrated and welded itself to the gearbox input shaft. - 1.8K and type 9, 5 speed box. Obviously need new spigot and sleeve and will renew clutch, clutch cable and clutch release bearing whilst we're at it. Problem is with the damage to the gearbox input shaft:- 1. Can I get away with dressing the shaft using a grinder/file/emery cloth? 2. Would it would be better to remove the input shaft and stick it in a lathe to repair it. If so how much of a job is it to remove the shaft. So far I've just removed the CRB guide sleeve. 3. How much play should there be on the input shaft. There seems to be quite a bit, but if I recall correctly this is normal. Or is it? Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 14. I recently had a problem with a poor pedal and it was down to the rear brakes. Should be no need to rewind. As others have said they can sometimes trap a bubble of air which clings to the inside of the caliper. I've not had this myself, but others have and as an alternative to taking them off, you could try tapping them with a hammer to 'dislodge' the air bubbles. I found the problem with my brakes was that they were 'releasing' too far. In other words they were moving back a long way from the disc after pedal released. This caused a longer pedal to push them back. As F355GTS says - make sure they are seated correctly and important to make sure the stainless piece on top of the caliper is in the right place. This is a stainless channel on which the small butterfly springs on top of the pad run. There are tags on the ends of the stainless channel which are folded to mould around the caliper and should be easy to see if they have moved out of position. Worked for me. Good luck. 25. Bricol YHM The problem lies with the relay in the Multi Function Unit. You can cure in 2 ways, either by replacing the relay or adding an additional relay. I have done the latter and it has worked faultlessly on my car for 6 years. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S.
