  1. So it does alter the steering geometry by increasing the distance between the top and botton swivel points on the stub axle. The difference appears to be very small and I'd be surprised if it were to make a difference at all. We'll get too complicated if we try to discuss the cause of bump steer on here, but essentially you are trying to align the top and bottom chassis/wishbone pivot points along with the end of the steering rack so that the pick up points on the stub axle (top and bottom joints and track rod end) all move through the same arc. Yes on a 7 where you are unable to move chassis pick up points, the only thing you can do is move the rack and this is by trial and error as it will vary from car to car depending on the ride height and amount of suspension travel. If you are designing suspension from scratch the best way to eliminate bump steer is to have a short rack with long steering arms at the end so that it sweeps through a wide arc and thus introduces little lateral movement. Couple this to long wishbones with pivot points aligned and very limited suspension travel and Bob's your mothers brother. Look at F1 cars -they know what they're doing. 2. Reduces bump steer??? How's that then? I didn't think this conversion alters the steering geometry at all. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. sat nav

I'm a big fan of Garmin sat navs. I currently have the Nuvi 760 - I find it easy to use and it calculates quickly. One of the things with some sat navs is that you need to use an earpiece or pipe it through an intercom. With the Nuvi 760 I find I can use it on the windscreen and still hear it OK via the loudspeaker at most normal speeds. It does have an earpice plug also should I need it. 4. 7heavensoon To answer your question:- Petty strut comes in 2 pieces which slide into each other. This is because of the potential differences between chassis. You fit the strut and then drill through the 2 pieces and secure with a nut and bolt, to make the strut the exact length for your car. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 5. Stuart It can prove a little expensive if you buy a new column and a suitable (momo or similar) wheel. I already have a momo wheel and I've just fitted a quick release to my car by welding a quick release boss to my existing column. Also I've retained the steering lock. Cost about £100. I've also got the bits to fit a Q/R column to Sarahs car and retain the Motolita wheel. I'll be doing it as soon as the weather is good enough for her to bring the car over to my garage. Give me a ring if you want more detail or you can come over and I'll show you how I'm planning to do it. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 6. Stuart 1. Both nuts on outside - locked together. 2. You can adjust at either end to get the required bite point, but make sure that the cable pulls nice and straight i.e. without rubbing awkwardly on the edge of the outer cable. If you understand what I mean. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. (Lancashire and District Sevens) LADS Website Growing old is compulsory - Growing up is optional
  7. As suggested, a visual check for cracks where the under tube shock absorber mount is welded to the tube is what's needed. If it were me I'd stick with the same tube, but clean it up and strengthen the mount by welding a strengthening plate as per later de dion tubes. I'd then get it powder coated and refit. You can see the extra strengthening on this picture here Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. (Lancashire and District Sevens) LADS Website Growing old is compulsory - Growing up is optional
  8. Ian Glad you finally managed to get the cable for Sven. It just goes to show that even if you are a mechanical numpty it's still worth carrying spare cables. If you've got the bits there's always someone to fix it even if it's the Rescue Services. 😬 Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 9. Order another - and carry as a spare. Also order a spare throttle cable. They are both notorious for breaking and it will save a lot of heartache. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. (Lancashire and District Sevens) LADS Website Growing old is compulsory - Growing up is optional
  10. Sorry - don't know whether they will fit with the mirrors, but I don't know anyone who has a good word to say about wind deflectors. I'm sure there are loads stuck in the back of garages. 15. You could try Hollographics here They supply all sorts of vehicle graphics and supplied vinyl stickers for LADS to Le Mans trips along with Le Mans stickers for many others. Give them a ring I'm sure they'll be able to help. By the way when fitting vinyl stickers make sure you use the soapy water method for best results. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 16. The bottle usually fits where you have the pump. You may already have the bracket there. Pump and bottle are a matched item i.e. the pump clips to the side of the bottle and pick up goes direct into the bottle. Seehere Check to see if the pump you have will fit the bottle. 20. I'm very familiar with oil leaking from Ford rear axles. It tends to escape around the bearing on the halfshaft, rather than through the bearing. I would suggest withdrawing the halfshaft and smearing some silicone sealer into the corner of the axle where the bearing seats. Replace halfshaft and Bobs your mothers brother. I used to replace Ford diffs on a weekly basis and this cured the problem 99.9% of the time. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 21. Angus I used to hire (or borrow) a hydraulic pipe bender when making roll cages. HSS do them here Seems quite a bit more expensive than I recall, but perhaps someone else does them a bit cheaper. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. 22. Just to add I'm glad it's sorted - I was trying to rearrange my day today to fit an hour in to help - thankfully that's not necessary. Malcolm - I agree - for some reason 1400 k seems to be a real pig. I remember ending up sucking and blowing down every hose in an effort to finally bleed a 1400. Stu F. - I think you are probably correct, a heater can cause a problem. If you think about it, the bleed T is the highest point an the engine and heater are either side of it and a little lower. I suspect that air is easily trapped in the heater. It's clearly necessary to ensure the heater valve is fully open during bleeding. Perhaps when fitting a heater it would be advisable to fill the heater separately and ensure that there is no air in it before connecting to rest of system. 23. Yes you need a couple of sockets. They're actually 3/4 inch headed bolts (assuming it's an Arch chassis and not the latest metric chassis), but 19mm are a fit. My sockets are not particularly thin walled, but they just about squeeze in with a little lubrication on them. I guess you've just got to try a socket to see if it fits. 24. A bit more detail would help. If it's an Arch chassis it will be imperial. Are you talking about a de dion tube mount? Mine is 1/2 inch UNF bolt. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S. (Lancashire and District Sevens) LADS Website Growing old is compulsory - Growing up is optional
  25. Stuart I run a Radtech radiator and there are times when ambient temperature is cool that the bottom hose doesn't warm up. This is particulalry if I'm going for a blat and not standing in traffic. It sounds like it could just be that with the weather we've had of late. If you have a bigger than standard radiator, the problem will be exagerated. If temperatures are fine then I think you're OK. Have you tried letting it tickover and get up to temperature? And does the fan switch on when you do this? I think you'll probably find that thermostat will open when on tickover and allow the hose to warm. Paul Richards Area Representative - L.A.D.S.
