Yes. Certain it is de dion axle. The test you are thinking about is to check whether you have a limited slip differential (LSD) - a different thing.

Suspect SM25 is correct about your tyres. Good advice to change to something like Yoko AO21s as a good all round touring tyre.

Get along to LADS meet 5.9.12 for some advice/help. *thumbup*

  2. Quoting Nigel Mercer:
    It is a live axle.

Are you sure? I thought it was a de dion car that you bought.

Whatever it is, 2 or 3 drips won't be a real problem, but you need to have a look underneath to see where it is coming from and I'd also check levels in gearbox and diff. just to be sure.

  3. Quoting tbird:
surely you get the same if you rang Caterham, and while in no way having a go at Redline, if we are talking websites, well need I say any more

I recommended Redline because I don't think you do get the same from Caterham.

I have experienced difficulty in getting through to Caterham Parts on the phone and long delays in parts arriving. I have had neither of these with Redline.

I'm sure if you ask Caterham a question you will get good advice. However in my experience Redline go the extra mile. For example if you ask Caterham for a new sump plug they'll send you one, but when you come to fit it you'll realise that you also need a new washer.

Ask for a sump plug at Redline and they'll ask if you want a new washer with it.

Just my experience, but I do like to recommend places where I have had good service and I do like to talk to someone when I order things rather than shop on line. *thumbup*

Assume your doors have pins i.e. not bolted to make them easily removable.

Some years ago someone made mirrors on clips which fitted into the door hinges on the stanchions, but alas no longer. You could fit the mirrors to the stanchions permanently as per IVA requirement, but this does not allow the doors to open fully and personally I find this a pain. Incidentally I also find driving without the doors a pain, but each to his own. I guess you could fit a set of IVA mirrors every time you go doorless - it's only 2 screws.

As an aside, I don't bother with CC on line store. Recommend you ring Redline (see ad in Low Flying) Ask for Mick and tell him I recommended you ring. You'll get good advice as well as the parts.

See you at next LADS meeting? First Wednesday in September. *thumbup*

just to hijack the thread *smile*

i did the relay mod a few days ago, fitted a new std starter, but i still have the click from time to time (cold or hot, doesn't really matter)

i have double checked battery, ground, loom, alternator but can't see why it is not working fine.

starter goes well everytime i put a direct feed on it.

    any idea??

As Stu says, it seems your MFRU may be too far gone. You can replace the MFRU - there's one in the for sale section. alternatively you can by pass the MFRU completely, replacing it with a new relay. You will find details if you do a search.

  6. Can someone tell me the length of the extensions used to extend the standard rack when you move to wide track. This part here.

I'm assuming it extends the steering tie rod by around 2 inches.

    Thanks

  7. The relay mod should cure your car for a couple of quid and won't by pass the master switch. The fact that the click got worse when you added a master switch is a sure sign that the relay mod will cure it.

I'd fit the relay and see how you get on. I'll bet it will work for you (it has done so for me for around 10 years).

You can then sell the Brise starter.

Blatmail me for details of the relay mod.

I find the Caterham supplied belts too stiff in their operation.

The problem with a lot of belts with "pull up to tighten" is that the buckle often fouls the seat and it is therefore difficult to slacken. May not be a problem to you if you still have a bench seat.

Scroth do seem to be pretty good as recommended above and they do have 3 inch shoulder straps.

In my car I have Sabelt and they're pretty good, although for reasons described above I opted for the adjustment at the buckle which for road use works fine. However, I did find Sabelt very helpful and if you speak to them they will supply to your spec. Have a look at their website *thumbup*

  9. Arnie - Nice job. I see what you mean - additional support for the diff using the diff fixings which are normally ignored in the standard set up and nicely triangulated to a strong point on the chassis.

This is the Seven Speed solution and must be what I was thinking of. Looks simple enough to fabricate with a couple of spherical rod ends and easy to retro fit. 😬

Top shock mounts must be pretty rigid I guess.

Thanks for all your replies. *thumbup*

Yes I realise Mike has them on his R500 and now you mention it they do fit to seat belt mounts.

If no one else comes up with info I'll contact Mike.

Titanium - Bit too expensive for me. I'll be fabricating my own. 😬

  11. Got my SBFS shower cap in time to make good use at LM Classic. I didn't like the way the standard one stopped a few inches away from the scuttle so they modified for me.

Works extremely well, good quality work and very impressed with the material used as water seems to bead on it and run off well.

  12. May 2007 (07 Reg.) Renault Scenic Dynamique. 53k miles. Owned by me since new. Full service history. Good condition inside and out. 150 bhp 2.0 diesel engine (Not the more common 1.9 130 bhp version.)
