  1. PTFE tape? I prefer to use an 'O' ring - make sure its a v. tight fit or it will "spread" when tightened.
  2. Was it stationary? 😬
  3. Spherical bearings are normally held in by circlips and can be replaced. I'd contact Bilstein direct for support. A google should do it.
  4. Tom You can easily get brake pipes made locally. Best is to take off the old pipe and get them copied. Car and Garage will probably do whilst you wait.
  5. I stand corrected. Must learn to read properly.
  6. Others may tell you that you can't change the bulb in the switch, but you can. Simply carefully prize the switch apart (2 little pips that form the "hinge"). Look out for flying springs. Bulbs are tiny screw in type and available from Maplins. 😬 Edited by - Paul Richards on 18 Sep 2012 19:27:08
  7. I suspect the gear levers are identical. The DT one looks straight just because of the angle the picture is taken from. Worth checking first.
  8. John H Is that not from an Arch roll bar? John B is looking for one to fit a Caged roll bar (I assume one with the cross rather than a single diagonal).
  9. Sorry No. Arch roll bar has bolt through one of the diagonals that goes to the back of the car. Pity - I've never used mine and you could have had it on permanent loan. Does this mean sprinting next year? 😬
  10. Hi John (2 holes centre of top bar) - sounds like a "Caged" roll bar. I have a petty strut for an Arch single diagonal roll bar.
  11. I need to make up a small shaft with a splined male at one end and a splined female at the other. I've got a lower Caterham column with a male spline. I now need a female spline something like this , but looks a little expensive. Anyone know of a more cost effective source? Not averse to sourcing something from the scrappy if I can identify a car that uses a spline i can fabricate. Thanks in advance for any help. Edited by - Paul Richards on 16 Sep 2012 15:30:07
  12. Regret from your description I can't understand your solution. Any pictures? I simply strengthened my de dion using similar flat bar as was used on later tubes. Seems to spread the load and work fine.
  13. Assuming 13inch wheels, most recommended are Yokohama AO21R's 185-70 x 13 from Polley Motorsport. Good all round road tyre.
  14. An opportunity to buy a unique S3 Caterham 7. The car was built by Richard Lee (of Carbon-Bits) for his wife Henrietta during 2007 and will be known to many club members. All the panels on this car are of carbon fibre and the quality and workmanship of the carbon and the entire car are to an excellent standard. (Those who knew Richard or have purchased his products will know his exacting standards and the quality of his products). Car was first registered on 25th April 2008 and has been stored in an air chamber ever since. The car has hardly been used (stored for the last 2 years) and has completed a total of only 4,189 dry miles. Details as follows:- 1.6 K series EU3 engine 5 speed gearbox with long first gear (2.98) - modified by SPC. Tall FIA rollbar. Caterham big front brakes (AP 4 pot). Uprated brake master cylinder. Toyo Proxes R888 tyres. Tillet seats. 6 point Luke harnesses. Carbon race mirrors. FIA Master switch. Black pack. Black aero fuel filler cap. Car has full weather gear (doors and custom made hood to suit tall FIA bar). Carbon dash. Carbon transmission tunnel cover. Tonneau cover. Custom hood bag. The car is finished in bare carbon with roll bar, wings, bonnet and nosecone in hot pink pearl. (Pink parts are all easily removable for re-painting if required). Exterior bodywork is extensively protected by Armourfend. Price is £20,000 and car will be sold with 12 months MOT and price will include the unique CA07BON number plate. See pictures on Pistonheads Advert Car currently garaged in Scottish Borders and viewing by appointment. 15. ZV1's - even worse. I changed from ZV1s and it totally transformed my car. Now much more confidence in the road holding and grip. The only good things about ZV1's is that you'll never wear them out. 😬
  16. Nigel Yes. Certain it is de dion axle. The test you are thinking about is to check whether you have a limited slip differential (LSD) - a different thing. Suspect SM25 is correct about your tyres. Good advice to change to something like Yoko AO21s as a good all round touring tyre. Get along to LADS meet 5.9.12 for some advice/help.
  17. Quoting Nigel Mercer: It is a live axle. Are you sure? I thought it was a de dion car that you bought. Whatever it is, 2 or 3 drips won't be a real problem, but you need to have a look underneath to see where it is coming from and I'd also check levels in gearbox and diff. just to be sure.
  18. Quoting tbird: surely you get the same if you rang Caterham, and while in no way having a go at Redline, if we are talking websites, well need I say any more I recommended Redline because I don't think you do get the same from Caterham. I have experienced difficulty in getting through to Caterham Parts on the phone and long delays in parts arriving. I have had neither of these with Redline. I'm sure if you ask Caterham a question you will get good advice. However in my experience Redline go the extra mile. For example if you ask Caterham for a new sump plug they'll send you one, but when you come to fit it you'll realise that you also need a new washer. Ask for a sump plug at Redline and they'll ask if you want a new washer with it. Just my experience, but I do like to recommend places where I have had good service and I do like to talk to someone when I order things rather than shop on line.
  19. Nigel Assume your doors have pins i.e. not bolted to make them easily removable. Some years ago someone made mirrors on clips which fitted into the door hinges on the stanchions, but alas no longer. You could fit the mirrors to the stanchions permanently as per IVA requirement, but this does not allow the doors to open fully and personally I find this a pain. Incidentally I also find driving without the doors a pain, but each to his own. I guess you could fit a set of IVA mirrors every time you go doorless - it's only 2 screws. As an aside, I don't bother with CC on line store. Recommend you ring Redline (see ad in Low Flying) Ask for Mick and tell him I recommended you ring. You'll get good advice as well as the parts. See you at next LADS meeting? First Wednesday in September.
  20. Quoting tonino: just to hijack the thread i did the relay mod a few days ago, fitted a new std starter, but i still have the click from time to time (cold or hot, doesn't really matter) i have double checked battery, ground, loom, alternator but can't see why it is not working fine. starter goes well everytime i put a direct feed on it. any idea?? As Stu says, it seems your MFRU may be too far gone. You can replace the MFRU - there's one in the for sale section. alternatively you can by pass the MFRU completely, replacing it with a new relay. You will find details if you do a search.
  21. Thanks. Sorry you were disappointed 😬
