  1. Who uses a handbrake other than at MoT time.
  2. I understand cars have failed IVA if cable ties used to secure the handbrake cable. Best option is P clips.
  3. As already said slacken the plastic adjuster and plastic locknut a long way and the use grips/pliers to unhook the cable from the hook.
  4. Beware. Make sure you get the correct one. The position of the gearstick and handbrake vary depending on engine and gearbox. I wrongly assumed that if it was a type 9 gearbox they would all be the same, but they're not. The distance between gearstick and handbrake varies depending on engine.
  5. I was going to use existing and car runs fine but crack is worse than I thought. Ordered new from above but they have refunded as not in stock. Anyone got one lying around before I start saving up to purchase another.
  6. You can fit adjustable platforms to Bilsteins. It won't make them any softer. A change of springs will do that but could affect the handling.
  7. Stu. I've already decided to stick with it. Just amazed at the price, as was Chris Mintoft of Redline. It's not something he's ever stocked and I doubt he will be doing so in the future.
  8. I am fitting a new distributor cap and rotor arm to my k series engine and noted that the plastic plate (known as anti flash shield) under the cap has a small crack. I can't remember replacing it so it's probably 22 years old so I thought I'd replace it as it can't be that much. How wrong was I? HERE almost £50 I think I'll stick with the current one unless someone has a new one lying around that they are happy to sell at a lower price. I'm sure someone could 3d print and make a killing.
  9. I think it's a scuttle off job. There are lots of wires and things wrapped round/attached to the tube containing the rack.
  10. "I've never had a problem with using a standard 21mm open-ended spanner on mine." Neither have I. Open end spanner works fine.
  11. Use a pump to remove the oil from the Apollo via the hole where the braided breather hose is attached. There's a suitable one on offer at Aldi for £15. Alternatively this is similar https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362727341851?hash=item54743bff1b:g:YAEAAOSwNlxdVZII
  12. "My experience with the early 1400 engine, compared to later engines, is that it is very difficult to refill without an airlock" I agree. The 1.4 can be a bit more of challenge than normal to get rid of an airlock.
  13. Looks like you need to pull the rubber not only down but towards the bank of the car. If the end protrudes into a visible area trim it off. That should improve things. A little clear silicon may also help to secure it. Good luck.
  14. Had a real good search of the garage today but couldn't find the wing protectors. They must have been thrown out when I had a clear out. Sorry.
  15. I have some new wing protectors from an early 7. They are much smaller than the current ones. Could be what you are looking for. I'll try and dig out of the garage tomorrow.
  16. The foam is prone to breaking up and clogging everything. If you are doing an oil change I would definitely take the opportunity to remove sump and establish whether foam has been removed.
  17. Recommend fully synthetic 5w50 oil. Capacity with Apollo is 7 litres but doubtful you will be able to drain all of it. Suggest 6 or 6.5 litres and then top up as necessary. Apollo tank can be difficult to drain as tank can be fragile and drain plug difficult to remove. I usually drain Apollo with an extraction pump. Don't forget get you need to renew sump foam if you still have it, or better still scrap it and modify sump gasket.
  18. "My experience is that toe in or out can have more effect on tyre wear than camber." I agree with Stu. I'd first check toe settings before altering camber.
  19. Sorted. Managed to get a new box from Knott trailers at a good price (less than box on eBay).
  20. Thanks. Not sure I'll collect from Brentwood.
  21. I did manage to remove the glass from my frame and had the frame and stanchions powder coated black. You do risk breaking things if you are not careful but it is doable.
  22. "So actually I think I'm talking bollocks" I agree.
