  1. Dishwasher or washing machine tablet, fill with boiling water and leave to soak for 20-30 minutes
  2. Quoting elie boone: Maybe Oval pistons and 8 valves can bring the BMEP up higher but is very complicated and probably need expencive materials. I just wonder if any constructor ever tried oval valves ? to make the most use of the theoretical max inlet area. Nearest to that would be the Honda NR but I would put money on the Honda engineers having tried oval valves at some point as well as pistons so the fact they haven't been used may indicate that it does improve the output... The Honda NR (New Racing) was a V-four motorcycle engine series started by Honda in 1979 with the 500cc NR500 Grand Prix racer that used oval pistons. This was followed during the 1980s by a 750 endurance racer version known as the NR750. The oval piston concept allowed for eight valves per cylinder which generated more power due to the increased air/fuel mixture throughput and compression. In 1992 Honda produced around 300 street versions of a 750cc model, the NR (often mistakenly referred to as the NR750), with a 90-degree V angle. Whereas the NR500 had used an oval piston with straight sides, the road going NR750 used an elliptical piston with curved long sides. The bike became the most expensive production bike at the time when it was selling for $50,000 Edited by - peterg on 6 Mar 2013 08:32:14
  3. this exactly matches my thoughts, I don't know much about the real technical stuff as to how good engines make their power and why but love reading about it so it increases my knowledge *thumbup*
  4. Well known and sadly missed motoring writer LJK Setright used to quote BMEP in a lot of his articles and made a comment to the effect that for an NA engine BMEP is a measure of how clever you are, for forced induction it's a measure of how brave you are...

    Towing

I used to tow my Westfield and then later on my single seater with a Golf mk5 (2.0tdi with DSG box) on a PRG Sport trailer with tyre rack, not only is it legal and safe, most of the time you barely knew it was there...
  6. Quoting Jonathan Kay: I suggest you measure the battery voltage at rest and on cranking and report back. Jonathan this, if it's less than 12.7v at rest and/or drops below 9v whilst cranking it is fubbared
  7. Due to a prolapsed disc and sciatica I find I am unable to lug my trailer around anymore so Green and Mean is going back to being a road car, so I will be fitting my spare engine therefore will have for sale my Mass X-flow engine. This engine had a full rebuild less than 100 miles ago which included crack and pressure testing of block and head and was run in on the dyno where it produced 169 bhp @7750rpm. However it can be tweaked a bit more now it has a few miles on it as a past dyno sheet from John Noble shows it hitting 192.9bhp. AX block 1700cc Farndon steel crank (good for 9500 rpm) GAF steel con rods Cosworth pistons Mass 747 camshaft gear driven fron crankshaft Race spec cam followers and push rods Cometic 3 layer steel head gasket 11.4:1 compression ratio Full race spec cylinder head roller rockers Twin weber 48s DTA 3D ignition with launch control,TPS and crank sensors Dry sumped Lightweight alternator Starter motor New twin plate clutch Lightened flywheel Remote oil filter Oil cooler There is a custom made Tony Law exhaust system that I would like to keep to fit to the replacement engine as it is bonnet exit to save replacing the bonnet, but could come to some agreement if nessessary. To build an engine like this now would cost in excess of 12k. Offers over 7k - Engine still in the car so can be heard running Email address is paul.p@talktalk.net or tel 07599 798920 Paul Pocklington is the owner and resides in West Yorkshire
  8. Just one car left now... a Scalextric C1 Alpine Renault in very good condition, boxed with 'maintenance pamphlet' for £50 (plus p&p) - last one on eBay in worse condition sold for £62
  9. Quoting Stuart Miller 7: You have mail Hi Stuart, you have 2nd dibs if Ed changes his mind... Will email you tomorrow re the 935s
  10. Hi Ed, email me the details of your contact in Croydon, it would have to be a Saturday morning for a drop off though as I don't get over there during the week.
  11. Finally got this lot down from the loft and sort through it all... A lot of this was given to me on my 10th birthday in 1965 as a 'Scalextric Set 55' but I added stuff to it myself and then acquired a load more from an older friend who gave me his track and other bits after he grew out of it... There is approximately 60ft of track plus accessories which includes: Pits - switchable entrances so you can continue or pull into the pits (PT91, PT93 and PT95S and T) Goodwood chicane (PT77) Short chicane x 2 (PT78, two different styles) Long chicane (PT74 and PT75 x 2, 3 straight lengths where the tracks converge to allow only one car at a time) Lap counter (C272) Chequered startline area Banked curves x 7 Long curves x 16 Short curves x 3 Short straights x 11 Long Straights x 16 Brickwork look cardboard humpack bridge with logos of Shell, Ferodo, and Girling - it came in my original Scalextric Set 55 and is in very good condition despite being nearly 50 years old - it allows a figure of eight crossover like at the Fuji circuit There are also many 23 x haybales, 10 x cones and 63 x barriers of various types/colours, flagpoles and Start/Finish banner. There are also 4 x (C265) hand controllers and 3 x power supply transformers, a Scalextric C920, a Hammant & Morgan 'Victor' and a Triang unmarked one. I have the original box for Set 55 but it has no cardboard innards and has been repaired with parcel tape on all four corners. I even have a 1978 Scalextric catalogue - which was probbably the last time I thought about slot cars... Most of the metal track slots are dull after being in storage for 30+ years but if should all buff up OK, only two bits of track had tiny amounts of rust on them but they rubbed up OK, oh, and one 'straight' was a bit warped and although it levelled out it has bent the metal slots a bit so will need a bit of fettling to be perfect. This lots fills two suitcases so I'd prefer collection from RG12 (outskirts of Bracknell) but if you're near Croydon I can drop off when visiting family there or anywhere in between the two locations. Say £60 for the lot? NB: there are no actual cars included in this lot but if anyone really wants a Scalextric C1 Alpine Renault in very good condition, boxed with 'maintenance pamphlet' for £50 or a pair of pristine (seriously, they have barely been used) C125 Martini Porsche 935 cars in boxes (both price marked £5.75) with maintenance instructions and unused spare brushes for £50 send me a blatmail please
  12. Topfield TF5800 PVR (black) scart connection, record two channels while watching a third etc etc - this is no longer used as I have Virgin cable and a TiVo+ box Andy Fraser (a Topfield amateur expert I used to live round the corner from) has done all the PSU fixes etc plus it is fitted with a really quiet 1TB disk drive (that's around 525 hours capacity) that has only been in for 18 months. Firmware version is TF-NPT 5.13.65T Price £60 - it has had all the fixes that any ordinary eBay listed system might still need and it has a bigger disk than most. I live in Bracknell so collection from there or I could post it for around £10 to mainland UK.
  13. I have a set of these running bi-wired off an Arcam amp and can recommend them, I always found Missions etc a bit tinny to my ears but these are full rounded with plenty of depth

    Jedi MK 6 Hayabusa

I can verify the structural integrity of a spaceframed DJ single seater, i had a lock up into the first hairpin at Wiscombe and speared into the tyrewall, although nowhere near 100mph it was still a fair thump but the total damage was the front wing endplate and fixing bracket and a bent upper wishbone, mine was chassis number 001 but Del Quigley deliberately built it a foot longer and nearly a foot wider than the little Jedis to make it more stable and safer for the driver. I hit 148mph at a Goodwood sprint with the front and rear wings flattened out and on the longest gearing propelled by a GSXR1100WP engine in fairly standard tune - it was still on the original bike carbs for example and weighed 340kgs wet without me in it.
