  1. Alex On of the things that affect the ability of a coolant to do it's job is the amount of heat it can carry. This can be described as it's Specific Heat. Ethylene glycol has a lower specific heat than water (4.2kJ/kg/K). Therefore the more antifreeze you put in, the lower the specific heat of your coolant and it then follows, the less capacity it has to a, absorb heat from your engine and b, carry it to your radiator. That's aside from your comment regarding corrosion resistance. Which is as you say, a seperate Cost/Benefit thing altogether. Susser (1/2 🙆🏻 Thermodynamicist)
  2. I did a bit of research into this and it's a bit like the argument of Slack50/8TP/Leave it alone. It's not a simple go faster mod. Can't find all the techy articles right now, but like Martin says, flush well. But heed the words of the oldbutnotslow. There's Old pilots and Bold pilots, but no Old Bold pilots. (That's someone elses words). Susser (1/2 🙆🏻 Pilot) Edited by - susser on 21 May 2005 22:21:57
  3. This could be a gimmick. Any polar surface active agent "surfactant" will increase the wetting capability of water,( by reducing surface tension). Chances are that your coolant already has one in. I'm pretty sure the Organic Acid Technology coolant such as Comma XTream Red already has it. If it doesn't then almost any detergent will "make the water wetter". Susser (1/2 🙆🏻 chemist)
  4. My slideshow ]here. Hmmmmm, that's ok but Photobucket is like ebay and doesn't let you out again. Edited by - susser on 9 May 2005 13:14:02
  5. Woss goin' on then Andy. You got 2 reverses ?. Non synchro ? You want to double declutch when braking hard for a corner IN REVERSE . Go on then tell us what you drive 🤔
  6. If you use Jizer or Gunk, make sure you wash it off thoroughly, it's hydrophillic and so it'll make moisture form on such things as electrical connections, causing corrosion. Mind you I always loved the smell of a hot Gunked engine since my old Norton days.
  7. Oliver's got it right. Selecting first stops the input shaft using the First gear synchro, then it slips into reverse easily. However,,if you really like "double clutching instead of granny clutching" as some twat said on 2 fast 2 furious. (another story altogether !!)you can. Like this;Stop engine, engage clutch, declutch, start engine, engage reverse. QED. 😳
  8. Nick. Looks as if the question's been well and truly answered; Theres me trucking along on the Carrotland Spring Blat thinking "Hello we seem to be leaving Bob behind. Must be going too quick for him. Hmmmmmmm. I'd better back off and try to keep in touch with him whilst keeping in touch with Steve ahead". When suddenly,,,,,,,,,,,,, Christ !!! how did he do that. QED. Toyo 888s it is then. 😬
  9. Nick. sounds to me. Mr Locust, only road at the mo' Edited by - susser on 16 Apr 2005 10:28:55
  10. Iain, you think ZV1s are bad !. When I got Yawks!! here the Pilots were on the front. Scared the hell out of me cos with the ZV1s on the rear it understeered something scary. Swopped 'em around and it balances fine without bags of throttle, but obviously needs more grip. Edited by - susser on 15 Apr 2005 14:57:03 Edited by - susser on 15 Apr 2005 14:59:00
  11. Tony. In answer to the Am I a Chav ? I will ask a question; The attribute of coming from a council house and being an adult is not required. The real test is; do you have an urge to fit foglights and use them inappropriately ? 🤔
  12. I've got to get rid of my Michelin Pilot rears and Avon ZV1 fronts; I'm thinking the Avon CR500s are generally accepted to be the optimum allrounders. But, I've got 15" Prisoners, which were part of my original spec, and I don't want to have to dump them for a set of 13" minilites which are probably technically superior. Now I don't assume that CR500s are the optimum at all diameters, as the sidewall characteristics may not suit a low profile tyre with it's less progressive breakaway characteristics. Yawks!!here I guess it's time for a FAQ on tyres. 🤔 Over,,,,,,,,,
  13. Dunno what it is about Organic Acid Technology coolant that makes it so good.( Comma XTream Red 5yr) I ran it in my Volvo here and it ate the head gaskets. here(Pic is a bit blurry but you can just see where it's been eaten.)I hope that the K series gasket is made of sterner stuff. 14. What a coincidence. I've just read your 2 posts, Mav and Quiet Down Here. I hadn't seen them when I decided to mess around in the shed with a few hyperlinks and my photobucket. wierd or what ?. Maybe I got some vibes wot said " talk about Man and Norman, go on", or something.
  15. On my way to finding the True Path, I had a narrow escape from this wicked temptress.here( But I think it was Arnie Swartzenegger in drag)
  16. This is the moment that I finally decided that the thing that was missing from my life was a Caterham. That's me with the Volvo.here. Among the assembled Blatters are Mav (Blue) and Norman Verona (Behind the 4x4). You got a lot to answer for guys. 😬 Edited by - susser on 9 Apr 2005 18:36:00
  17. Paulo. That's a valid solution. But. One of the criteria I had for the original Wish List was leather seats, for comfort, thigh support, and the ability to jiffle (harness allowing) as I've got a narrow butt and need to keep the blood flowing around the old Gluteus Maximus. Might hafta have a sit in one to checkit out.
  18. Yes Grant. I suppose this is a kind of similar thing as "there are two kinds of people in this world my friend" (The Good The Bad and the Ugly), those with cycle wings and those who haven't changed their Clamshells yet, or, There are those with Aeroscreens/ Deflectors and those who haven't got round to dumping their screen yet, I'm sure there are many similar comparisons. 🤔
  19. "You've got a screen? ." I suppose I saw that one coming. I had a bit of a debate on the subject of my car's spec' prior to going shopping. I guess the car is just about right, but I've got upgradeitis already. I don't want to chase power/weight ratio 'cos I won't win. But, I could maybe go for a Tonneau, Momo QD wheel, CR500s, Wind deflector, Cycles, lowered floor, etc. I've only been a sevener in material terms for 6 months, so what am I going to be like in a year's time ??.
  20. That's some great feedback. Those pictures certainly answer a number of questions that I had. There are a number of other areas to explore; Went for a blat yesterday with the hoodbag in it's "rightful" position, ie strapped to the roll bar. It seemed to reduce the amount of air hitting the back of my neck. The issue of airflow is clearly a complicated one. Soon, someones bound to suggest chucking the screen.
  21. That's great Tony. I don't want the extra trouble and expense of an Arch Motors job but I don't want to devalue the car with a bodge. I'm pretty sure I can hack this. I need to be absolutely sure though, that this is the most appropriate solution.
  22. Smashin' Nifty. I'll have a look on Mon. If you're 5'10" you are 1 1/2" shorter than me, so you must get the same view as I would with a lowered floor. I'll have a chat on Mon night about vortex shedding off the swede. That should be good.
