  3. Had a similar problem last year. So took the SM off dismantled and completely cleaned everything especially the solenoid, did the relay modification and finally totally insulated the SM with reflective heat wrap. Have since done about 4k with no probs much of which has been in high temps in France. Oh standard starter BTW Phil S7SVN

    New K series HG

I've just noticed this www.moto-build.com a new 2 piece HG, anybody got any knowledge on this. Is this any better than the Mike Satur gasket. Phil S7SVN
  5. Use the proper windback tool cos if you slip using pliers or whatever you will probably snag the dust seal Phil S7SVN
  6. I use 16" wheels with Toyo T1R's and 200bhp. Seem ok grip really well especially in the wet, have covered 5kmiles and no obvious wear. Also got them on the wifes everyday Elise and they have been brilliant, she's covered about 12kmiles rears are about half worn fronts still look new. Phil S7SVN
  7. Nice one Dave if you re-polish the aluminum hard enough you may get down to 471kg 😬 Phil S7SVN
  8. Calipers are also used on the Sierra Cosworth, XR4i, 4x4 and a few others which I can't remember at the mo. If you've distorted the seals then don't re-use them. Overhaul kits are available but are expensive as they also include the piston, the last time I overhauled my 3Dr cossie ones they were approx £40 each. Take a look on ebay you may be lucky. Phil S7SVN
  9. These look to be the same ones I bought a couple of years back for exactly the same task. I got imperial and metric. You can screw of the tip and extend by using a bit of mig wire to reach the follower, have fun. Phil S7SVN
  10. Blimy! that was a blat. Yep the A470 is a stonking piece of tarmac and a number of sections of the A44 are very good, especially over Radnor Forest. Glad you liked the sound, it's got a powerspeed 4.2.1 Phil
  11. Twas me, went out for a quick blat and ended up doing a 90min jobby. Left home in Kington went up the A44 to Llandod then across to Builth, from there I went onto Rhayader and then back on the A44 to Kington. Sorry did'nt see you in the Little Chef, where had you been? Phil S7SVN 200BHP 😬

    K series fuel filter

Ta Myles, I'll check with CC but I suspect it'll probably be ok, it's exactly the same shape and fittings. Phil S7SVN
  13. Can anybody help with this, the fuel filter on my 2002 has a code of KL 158, is a Unipart GFE 7118 a direct replacement? It's a 1.8 giving 200bhp just want to make sure it will flow sufficient fuel. Phil S7SVN

    Armourfend?

Got it on mine and no chips or marks at all, brilliant stuff Phil S7SVN
  15. Maybe interested in this for my daughter. Can you please send me some pics and what is the mileage? Cheers Phil S7SVN
  16. Myles, the track rod end is a tapered fit into the steering arm, you should be using a ball joint seperator. I split dozens over the years and have never had one that would'nt undo. I've seen the two hammer approach in action and I've also witnessed it breaking an arm ❗ Most TRE are re-torqued to about 20lb.ft Phil S7SVN
  17. I looked at several options with this problem when fitting a CC dry sump. I eventually went for a vent pipe from the top of the coning tower to a catch tank, sealed one of the cam cover outlets off and used a small crankcase breather on the other, thus allowing the engine to breathe slightly. This also reduces the huge vacuum effect when you switch off and which can I believe result in the rear crank seal inverting itself. Phil S7SVN
  18. I've always drilled a small hole approx 2mmD in the thermostat, this cures the problem of getting an airlock in the J pipe. I then fill the system in the usual way and disconnect the top heater hose and attach an L shaped pipe to this and fill it thus making sure the heater matrix is full. I then reconnect the original pipe (fill this right up) and start the engine and leave it for a couple of minutes. I then loosen the top heater hose and allow any air to escape, in reality there is very little if any. I've used this method on numerous ocassions and have never had any problems with airlocks. Sump pickups

I'm now running a CC dry sump and had problems getting a decent oiltight seal using Loctite 574 even though both mating surfaces looked perfect. My final solution was to use a wet sump gasket and cut off the surplus, I've now done several thou and it seems ok with no seepage etc. Phil S7SVN
  20. Run a bead of silicon sealant between the plug/cam cover, I've used this method since I got my Caterham and have never had any problems with water ingress, I've driven through some of the worst summer downpours in France as well!! Phil S7SVN

    1.6K Engine 155BHP

Nifty YHM. Slider, will see what happens re: engine first - but basically the flywheel is part of the engine package. Phil S7SVN
  22. Has covered 5k miles since being rebuilt (prior to this the unit had done 9k miles as a SS unit). 1.6K EU2. Fully ported/polished head retaining standard valves but with H/D springs, cams are QED375H, correctly timed with verniers. New liners were fitted along with new piston rings and bigend bearings. Mike Satur head gasket. Lightweight flywheel. This engine is in mint condition. With DTH TB's and Emerald (not part of the sale) this unit gave 155BHP and 122lb.ft. torque RR printout available. I can also supply the map (Mech repairs of Cheltenham did a full mapping session on this unit taking 4hrs). Great on the road pulling from low down and very smooth, used to return 35-40mpg. Road use only. £980 I also have available the original Supersport cams, SS ECU and inlet plenum with alloy TB and SS foam filter all of which is in mint condition. Creaking A frame

Definately the A frame, it's coming out tonight as soon as I get home. Looking at it last night the inner washer is resting against the frame on both sides so hopefully a small shim will cure it. Phil S7SVN
