  1. I've been using an Airflow conditioner on my 1.6K for several months now and have left it permanently switched on without disconnecting or undoing the cell tops without any problems at all. I wired it in so that the connection is underneath the dash, therefore no need to lift the bonnet! With the instructions it states that as it only puts in a trickle it is quite safe and will not harm the car electrics, in particular the ECU. I think you would be ok with yours. Phil
  2. Take a look on www.eliseparts.com they have an alloy pulley for the K series for somewhere in the region of £68 plus the taxman. Whether the configuration is exactly the same as a Caterham set up I don't Know though. Phil 😳

    Rear shim kit

I will be removing much of the rear suspension after xmas to give everything a check over etc. I have a 1.6SS so have a rear adjustable roll bar and wide track front suspension. If I fit a rear shim kit which costs £30 to the ears will I notice much difference for road use? Thanks in advance to your replies Phil Edited by - prs on 20 Dec 2002 15:34:11
  5. I fitted a Powerspeed stainless system 4.2.1 a few months back and am well pleased. The increase in mid range pickup is quite noticeable and the sound is superb although I appreciate that means nothing with regard to performance but hey drop it a gear and well 😬. Fitting the system took a while though especially cutting the hole, about 3hrs spent on that. I also polished the system to a mirror finish prior to fitting, don't ask how long that took....... Would therefore recommend a powerspeed Due to the changes with MOT emissions etc I have kept the original cat system and will pop that back on when a test is required Phil 1.6SS6speedLSD and smiling 😬 😬 😬 Edited by - prs on 18 Dec 2002 10:48:12

    Caterham upgrade

So what's the feeling about the latest offer from Caterham in low Flying. I've got a 1.6SS and to upgrade to a 1.8 Supersport R with Roller Barrels costs £3245 or thereabouts, power increase goes to 160BHP is this worth it? Would it be better to spend that amount at say DA's and what would I get for that amount. Phil *cool*oh for a sunny day

One 9/16 front anti-roll bar, red rubber type for a standard track car brand new and still in the wrappers, for sale on behalf of a friend. If interested contact me and I will forward his telephone number. Phil Edited by - prs on 29 Nov 2002 16:31:20
  10. OK, so when doing an oil change what are the benefits of using these flush liquids which you pour in and then run the engine on a fast idle for ten minutes or so before you drain. How good are they, are they worth using or is it just a waste of time and money. Any thoughts on this. Phil. Blatting on the A44 has never been better *thumbup*

  13. Cheers Brent I think I'll change to a fixed in set up, it certainly would be much easier
  14. I've got an Airflow which I just bought at the classic show last weekend, neat piece of kit. I was under the impression that you should loosen the cell screws on the top of the battery during use ( which is stated in the instructions ) which was one reason why I did'nt bother wiring in a permanent set-up as you obviously have to lift the bonnet each time to re-tighten can anybody advice me on this. cheers Phil 😬 😬 😬

    Rear Calipers

Hi Simon thanks for that but the pistons are free, it's the handbrake mechanism that has seized. It is a problem with these calipers when old age sets in! 1.6SS and smiling *wink* *wink* my cossie calipers *mad* *mad*

    Rear Calipers

If anyone has a set of rear calipers from a De Dion going spare, maybe if you upgraded etc then I would be interested. I need to change the calipers on my 3Door Cossie before the dreaded MOT they are sticking and will no longer free off. Cheers Phil *mad* just looked at my shiny Powerspeed 4.2.1 😬 😬 😬
  17. I've always checked when hot and running on my 1.6SS as per instructions in the good old owners manual! Basically you could take a reading with the engine off once you've got the right level and put a slight nick in the dippy thingy a couple of mill above the full mark 😬 😬 😬
  18. Thanks guys. Dave J. I live in Walton which is just of the A44 about 3 miles from Kington, it's a superb piece of tarmac! In fact I was out last night blatting just to keep all parts moving nicely, as if I need an excuse for a blat! You mention a Rover Manual, how much do you want or would a donation to Leuk be OK? Give me a ring on 01544 230124 after 6ish e-mail and server problems at the moment, cheers Phil
  19. I've got a 1.6K SS and I intend to carry out all serving and running repairs myself, however I do need to refer to manuals for the correct assembly process etc and more importantly torque settings. Having looked in Halfrauds there appear to be several versions that cover the K series in the rover section. So which is the best one to go for or is it possible to get a proper workshop manual from Rover themselves? Thanks for your replies in advance Phil

  22. The all important question coming up...............is it 6 speed
  23. I went for two weeks back in the summer to the Loire valley and had great fun, the roads are superb and yes you will get a lot of real interest shown by the locals. I took light bulbs, throttle cable, clutch cable and a good selection of tools. I didn't bother with a warning triangle as they are know only listed as advisable and not a legal requirement. I made my own bootrack and we took two medium sized holdalls although with the weather being good we could have easily got away with just one. We're going again next year!! Have fun Bon Voyage, Phil

    Armourfend....

Great stuff, fully extended my swearing range during the fixing process much to the disgust of the other 1/2. I applied the rear wing, door openings and had plenty of bits left over, so i cut pieces to fit around the bonnet catches and also applied a strip across the leading edge of the nose cone and front cycle wings. Have covered about 3K since applying and not a single stone chip so well worth the pain in the 🙆🏻. Word of warning , ask for additional fixing fluid as you must keep the area flooded otherwise the film sticks instantly on contact and will stretch if you then try to remove it, practise first!! good luck and if all else fails then have a good swear!
  25. I read the recent account of Peter C's engine failure due to a shredding fan belt and thought the following to be somewhat important. I was recently changing the exhaust manifold on my 1.6 k to replace it with a Powerspeed system, anyway it became apparent that it would be easier if I took of the alternator to achieve more room etc. When I took the fan belt of I noticed there were masses of tiny particles of grit and broken fragments of glass imbedded in the grooves between the ribbing. Some of these had penetrated right down to the webbing, this is after 4000 miles. It would appear that the configuration and layout of the K series in a seven is perhaps slightly prone to picking up road debris, naturally I changed it straight away, if left then it may cause premature failure. I do live in a rural area which I suppose you could say has dirtier roads than a built up environment. Thought you might like to know about this, by the way I don't work for the Rover group! Phil
