  1. I've got my 1.6 Supersport 2002 with Eggar Lawson. It's limited to 5000mls and without using any no claims bonus I paid £192 (which includes uninsured loss cover) last month to re-insure it, this was down 20% over last year. Goes without saying I was well pleased.............should point out I've just hit the dreaded 5...0 and have also been driving high performance road cars for over 12yrs without a claim, but taking all that into account I'm still well pleased as they say! Phil
  2. I used one of these back in the mid 70's (showing my age) on my Mark 1Escort Mexico set up with twin forties. Was dead easy to use and she always ran spot on. Cheap but very effective way to set up, especially when trying to achieve a decent tickover from what I can remember. Phil

    THINK - One way valve

I must confess that I didn't look that closely at the invoice, was just so pleased to get it at that price that I went straight out to the garage and fitted it. Well at 50% off as you say rude not to. phil

    THINK - One way valve

Mark, apparently Caterham say it's a cost thing. I would have thought buying the bulk that they would the price would be acceptable, maybe £245ish instead of £200 for the complete kit. There seem to be a lot of people that upgrade with this valve afterwards. Personally I think Caterham should modify the kit to include the valve, I'm sure it would still sell. Phil

  7. Having recently fitted an Apollo system I was rather concerned with the delay that occurs to establish oil pressure on start up, several secounds. I therefore decided to fit a flap valve to hold the oil back in the Apollo tank under vacuum pressure - works a treat, now got instant pressure. The point of all this......THINK did me a good deal, like 25% off the whole lot, the flap valve the two connectors to fit the valve in line on the braided hose. All in with the VAT and P&P it came to £62 - not bad for peace of mind! Phil
  8. Try silicone sealant. I used it on my Powerspeed which has no clips at all holding the 4 headers to the collector and it's been fine, covered about 1500mls since fitting. This info was given from Powerspeed themselves. Phil
  9. Angus, that was me that mentioned the water rail joint a while ago. Mine was weeping although not as badly as yours appears to be. Looking at the photo the staining would suggest it has come from the rail joint and then just simply run down and followed along the head gasket. I removed my water rail and cleaned both mating surfaces, I then coated the new gasket with a light smear of Hylomar Blue Gasket Sealent, although you could use any type, but a light smear only! and re-torqued the two studs. Can't remember the torque setting now off the top of my head. Hope you sort it out ok, good luck Phil
  10. Dave, out of interest what plugs are you using. I've just put a set of NGK R BCPR7ES in my 1.6SS. Phil

    vague brakes

You need to bear in mind that most NORMAL road going cars have a servo effectively boosting pedal pressure and reducing the amount of effort required. What your describing I also encountered when I first started to drive a caterham but you soon get used to the different feel. Have fun with your 7, surely more enjoyable than a Morgan! Phil 😬 😬 😬
  12. I fitted a complete set of Samco hoses to my Cossie four years ago, everything was replaced, turbo, coolant, vacuum etc. Cost a small fortune but they are still like brand new now, and my engine is running 300BHP so puts a strain on such things as hoses etc. Couple of tips, when you fit them use good quality stainless steel clips and smear a tiny amount of vaseline onto the mating surfaces. This will stop any leaking as silicone hoses are not so soft as rubber hoses and hence do not always compensate for irregularities in surface finish. To clean just simply wipe over with a wet cloth. You won't be disappointed. Oh forgot to say, they look good to! Phil *cool* *cool*
  13. The only downside with a lightweight flywheel is that it can cause a lumpy tickover due to less revolving mass, Phil

    Cold Gearbox

I've also had exactly the same problem with mine. I adopted the change from 1st to 3rd method until warmed through. However I think I will try Redline MTL after reading this thread as it clearly seems to make an improvment. Looks like DT will be doing some good trade over the next few days! Phil, frustrated ☹️ it's on axle stands at the moment!

    NGK's

I'm about to change the plugs in my 1.6SS, anybody know the difference with the following. NGK R BCPR7ES and NGK BCP7ES. The ones that came out are the latter and I just want to check whether the R rated ones are ok before I fit them, are they just simply a wider temperature range? thanks for any advice Phil
  16. Matt, try doing a search there's been a lot of discussion on this very topic during the last few months. Powerspeed 4.2.1 is about £500. I fitted one to my 1.6 SS last year and it made a noticeable difference with mid range pickup. Go for a repackeable system and obviously in stainless steel. Phil

Are you sure that email address is correct, seem to be getting a connection problem. I would like to find out how much they can do a set of Verniers for a K series. Phil
  18. Stuart, I can assure you the correct setup for Widetrack is four washers and if shopping trollies handled like my 1.6SS then I could easily do the weekend shop in 2 minutes flat, including the checkout! Phil ❗
  19. The four washers do all go on the rear arm of the wishbone, however they go on the front of the arm to chassis mount. Phil Edited by - prs on 17 Mar 2003 13:26:29
  20. Nice one Robert, think I'd have to agree with you. Great improvement now with that alloy throttle cheers Phil
  21. It's a 2002, not sure about any differences with pickup points etc on the wishbones though, sorry. Give Caterham Tech dept a bell, they would know. Phil
  22. I've got widetrack on mine and according to the manual - and this is how mine is set - put all four(4) washers on the REAR leg of the wishbone to chassis mount. This is the standard Caterham setting. Phil Edited by - prs on 12 Mar 2003 09:18:47
  23. Have just bought, last night in fact 10mtrs of 50mm from Proven Products of Cooltex cost £20 with the P&P. That's Saturday afternoon sorted then. Phil

Hammerite smooth satin finish is pretty good oh don't forget colour, BLACK! Phil
  25. I currently have a 1.6SS with a 6 speed box, although the performance is rapid I've been thinking for a while about different types of upgrade. So far I've replaced the standard exhaust with a powerspeed 4.2.1 repackable system, fitted an Apollo tank and have removed the oil pump and modified the oil holes similar to Peter C spec on DV's site. If I go for throttle bodies and an Emerald(don't tell the missus I'm buying an emerald she'll get the wrong idea) and retain the Supersport cams would I expect to see 160bhp? Am I right in thinking that this would cost about £500 for the TB's £500 for the Emerald and about £200 for mapping. Has anybody done this or do most change the cams as well.... Phil
