  1. Having a problem with email connection so I'm unsure whether you received the above Phil
  2. YHM with re: to the Flywheel Phil S7SVN
  3. Dave is right, I've also been using these plugs - 9000mls without any problems Phil S7SVN
  4. You say that once the air filter is removed it appers to be ok, if you have the plastic throttle body you may just be overtightning the air filter clip which then distorts the body which can cause symptoms like this. The plastic body is prone to sticking and many people change to the alloy body........ Good luck Phil S7SVN

  7. I got an Airflow last year at the Classic car show, NEC for £30. It's been great no problems. Comes with a kit which allows you to wire it in permanently, I've got the connector under the dash so no need to lift the bonnet. This years show at the NEC is on Nov 8/9 and covers 6 halls so looks like being a goody Phil S7SVN
  8. I would try a compression test, you could have a sticking valve or broken rings. You would at least know that internally everything is ok. Phil S7SVN
  9. I wouldn't be happy trying to weld something like that insitu, partially drain down your system and remove the complete pipe, I would also replace the small oval gasket where it bolts up to the rear of the block, there have been several postings regarding these weeping so a bit dodgy to re-use the old gasket, good luck. 10. Jason, If you mean the actual rail it's made out of steel so it could be mig welded or brazed. Phil S7SVN
  11. Build manual clearly states 60lbs with the rear suspension loaded ie lighltly tighten up first and then put axle stands on the Dedion tube itself and then torque up, this correctly preloads the bushes. Phil S7SVN
  12. Have you got widetrack with Bilsteins without the spacer? If so get the spacers of Caterham, cost about a tennerI think and this would cure the problem. Phil S7SVN
  13. Not wishing to expand on your concerns but with that clearance you will NOT get on the ferry. Each deck has raised domes for when it gets rough and they have to strap down, I would think these domes must be at least 30mm high and they are all over the place ie you couldn't drive round them. Caterham recommend a ground clearance of 75mm for the K engine. You should set your front wishbones up so that they are level and then go from there, the rear should be approx 15mm higher. I'm sure you'll sort it ok, if this is your first trip to France you won't be disappointed I went last year for 2 weeks and had a ball so much so I'm off again on the 1st August, good luck. Simple question

Am I right in assuming that the water pump on a 1.6K Series engine is a bog standard Rover part. Phil S7SVN
  17. Graham, I had a very similar noise several weeks ago, took ages to narrow it down but it turned out to be the twin horns touching. I must have nudged them whilst fitting an Apollo tank, have a look. Phil S7SVN
  18. Andy, if the ARB is touching you can either grind away a small part of the diff casing or bend the bar to achieve a clearance. I changed a diff half shaft seal a few months back but did this with the diff insitu. If the outboard UJ joint is catching you will see obvious signs of scoring . Loosen the four hub flange bolts to the ear and you should be able to slightly move the shaft enough to stop it catching if indeed this is the problem. I assume that you re-fitted the diff with the original washer spacers etc and correctly re-torqued everything. Good luck Andy hope you sort it out. Phil S7SVN
  19. Are the shafts rubbing where they pass through the dedion and ear....... ARB touching the diff casing........ Phil S7SVN Edited by - prs on 9 Jul 2003 14:01:24

  21. Remove the brake caliper and then undo the four bolts holding the hub flange to the ear, the entire assembly - driveshaft, hub, disc etc will then pull out of the diff (the driveshaft will pass through the hole in the ear). You then undo the two remaining bolts holding the ear to the dedion and the ear will fall off. Phil S7SVN
  22. Dave I've got an Apollo on mine and when Iinstalled this back in the spring I also took the oil pump off and modified the oilways to increase the flow rate as per Dave Andrews spec so possibly this could be the reason. Phil S7SVN
  23. My 1.6SS has also done about 6000mls and when the oil is fully hot it reads 4bar on the move and 2bar on tickover, what sort of readings are you getting Dave? Don't forget the hotter it gets the thinner and less viscous the oil becomes and pressures will reduce slightly. phil S7SVN
  24. Go to EBAY and do a search entitled Caterham there is a secondhand 2000cc Vauxhall unit going for £500, apparently a recon unit as well, nothing to do with me though!. Phil S7SVN
