    Ebay Sucker !

Hmmmmm.... it's still £1.38 less than DT with the VAT and £3 P&P is sure to be less than DT will charge, so nearly a s----r!! The next bidder will be though.
  2. Exactly what's included with the engine, any bolt on's etc Phil S7 SVN

    Throw

I appreciate that a 1.8K series crank has more throw to achieve the greater stroke but is there any difference between 1.6 and 1.8 rods, apologies if the answer is obvious but I ain't sure! Phil S7 SVN

    Likely BHP outcomes

Have been off line for a while, thanks Dave for the info. Option 1 or 2 appear the best bet at the moment, engine will be coming out very soon. Phil S7 SVN
  8. Just to the right of your right knee under the dash there is a knob!! pull it out for hot air and your nuts should be ok next time!! Phil S7 SVN
  9. Not mine, I wish!! on www.eliseparts.com under parts for sale, cost £18,000 phew. Phil S7SVN
  10. Certainly is, in fact by filing off the lip it creates a larger area to tighten up on. Phil S7 SVN
  11. The K series thermostat housing is the original one as used in Rover installations etc so it still has the double lip for the O ring at the end where it would normally sleeve into a steel water pipe. However, in the caterham setup this lip is not required as the hose is made of rubber or silicone. The problem occurs when trying to push the hose on over this lip as it will distort the shape of the hose which in turn will eventually lead to splitting and failure. I noticed this early this year when changing the coolant so modified my housing by filing the double ring section down to the same level as the rest of the housing. The hose now slides over like any other fitment but without any distortion. Phil S7 SVN
  12. OK, the bug has hit and I am upgrading my 1.6SS over the winter. If anybody has carrired out similar conversions to the following what BHP did you end up with. I am trying to get best value for money- aren't we all!! Car will be used mostly for road use with the odd track day. Current spec includes 6 speed, widetrack with big brakes, Apollo, Alloy rad etc. Option 1 Jenvey DTH TB's, ported and polished K16 head with standard valves SScams correctly timed with Verniers and Powerspeed 4.2.1. Emerald or DTA. Option 2 Jenvey DTH TB's, ported and polished K16 head with VVC size valves, SScams or Piper 285h with Verniers, Powerspeed exhaust and Emerald or DTA Option 3 Jenvey DTH TB's , big valve VVC Head mechanical followers and 668 cams with Verniers, Powerspeed and ECU. Bottom end will be stripped and rebuilt with HD big end bearings, lightweight flywheel, and possibly new pistons (depends on condition of old ones after 10,000mls use) and full balance. Apart from the headwork I will complete the rest myself. Sorry if all this sounds long winded but I've spoken to too many "specialists"and got confused, time to sound out those who have actually done this . Phil S7SVN
  13. The method I use is......... fill up and then start the engine, feel the heater pipes on the bulkhead and if they are staying cold undo the jubilee clip on the top hose and carefully ease the pipe back slightly but not right off, air will begin to hiss out, eventually water will run out so take care it will be hot push back on and retighten. The other air pocket spot is the radiator hose to water pump junction, again exactly the same process a bit more fiddly though. I've changed the water several times in my system and have always done the above and never got an airlock. I've never bothered to lift the front of the car. Phil S7SVN
  14. Airflow, I've got exactly the same set up as Colin - wired in under the dash and through the grommet I leave it on permanently and no probs. Phil S7SVN
  15. Grant, I'm in Presteigne, we met earlier this year at Aber, I've got both a colourtune and a weber Carb balancer. feel free to pop across, am I right in thinking your in Builth. Ring me on 01544 230124 and we can sort it! Phil S7SVN

    ECU Upgrade

I will be taking out my standard 1.6SS during the next month and upgrading various bits, such as comp. big end bearings, lightweight flywheel and alloy front pulley, cyl/head porting, verniers, fitting throttle bodies etc. My question is this - which is the best ECU route to go - EMERALD or DTA. I appreciate that the DTA route requires it's own loom and is therefore more expensive but what are the + and - with these two systems, I would really apreciate your views. Phil S7SVN

    QED TB's

Simon, exhaust is great - went to France this summer and took in an Alps day out. The noise going up some of those passes with the exhaust side against a rock face when overtaking was amazing, scared the hell out of some of the people I was passing. Phil S7SVN 😬

    QED TB's

Cheers Dave, they are actually new so I should be ok Phil
  20. I did this back in the spring and used the ones from VWP, I think they cost about £3.00 pair. I did however have to slightly modify them to fit and it was necesssary to drill an additional screw hole in the wing as the original two holes did not line up, will look tonight for the code number.
