  1. Thinking about a new system Dave and theirs one on Ebay. Does your DS Laminova fit with a coil or do you need to have wasted spark. Phil
  2. If you get heat discolouration on a titanium exhaust silencer is there a simple way of removing it, ie can you simply use fine - 1200 wet'n'dry - or does the discolouration go right through it. Presumably the hot spot will have been caused in the first place by the packing going thin and transmitting the heat to the outer skin. Phil
  3. I ran a thread on this about a year ago as I was also considering doing exactly the same. The response was basically don't bother with it, my set up now uses a 74c stat and my temps sit on 75-80c water and about 75c oil in summer so seems ok to me. Phil S7SVN

  6. You could either be Xmas shopping this weekend or giving this engine a blast, no contest really. Phil S7SVN
  7. OK, I have the following available due to upgrading. 1.6K engine developing 155BHP at 7200rpm and 120lb.ft torque This engine was rebuilt in March 2004 as follows Head ported and polished on both inlet and exhaust sides Standard valves retained but fitted with H/D springs QED 375 cams plus vernier pulleys Mike Satur head gasket New liners Pistons re-ringed New big end bearings Lightweight Flywheel and clutch Carefully run-in on mineral oil and Mobil 1 since. 8. Rather than retap the threads it would be better to Helicoil, this will provide a stronger thread and will not be prone to stripping in the future. Phil S7SVN

    Toyo T1S

I believe they are standard fitment on TVR's and the Elise. Just put some on my wifes MX5 and they are brilliant, especially in the wet. Phil S7SVN
  10. Only just seen this, can you send me a list please Phil S7SVN
  11. I also fitted the flapper type valve, it's most reassuring to see instant oil pressure even after the car has been stood for a week or two, glad I did it. Phil S7SVN
  12. When I rebuilt my engine last year I also completely took the oil pump apart to check etc but I also flowed the oil holes and generally removed all sharp angles from the oil holes as per DVA site, took about 1hr with a fine file and finish off with wet n dry. How much difference it makes I don't know but as it was apart seemed sensible to do it. FWIW I get about 3.8 - 4bar oil pressure when hot with an appollo on a 1.6K. Phil S7SVN
  13. Try 'Think Automotive' I got mine from them and they were extremly helpful, for piece of mind instant oil pressure is very reassuring I'm glad I fitted one. Phil S7SVN
  14. I did more or less the same as 7heavensoon, ran the wire up through the big grommet on the transmission tunnel and then tiewrapped it to the main loom and left about a 6" tail. You can then tuck this out of the way when blatting and simply pull it down and plug in when required, I certainly would'nt drill the dash in any way for something like this. Phil S7SVN off to France in two weeks so big 😬 😬 😬
  15. For a full mapping session expect £300-£500, seems to be the norm. Phil S7SVN
  16. Nifty, I was getting the exact same readings 1bar and 3bar, I changed the sender (about £25 fromCC) and my readings are now 2bar idle hot and 4bar hot on the go with an Apollo. 3bar is still giving you approx 45psi. I would definitely change the sender first and then make a judgement. Phil S7SVN
  17. I used Mech about 2 months ago to fully map my rebuilt K and they did a great job, very thorough and carefull. Phil S7SVN
  18. You could do the same by removing the HT lead. Phil S7SVN
  19. Several yrs ago I replaced all the hoses on my road going Cosworth and the specialist I got the silicone hoses from told me to smear a small amount of vaseline onto the metal or cast fittings before pushing the hoses on (silicone is not so forgiving as rubber on pitted surfaces and weepage can occur). I followed his advice and have never experienced any problems and I run quite a high output 300bhp unit so the system is well used!! I replaced all my hoses this winter on the caterham after re-building the engine and again smeared with vaseline and so far no probs. A good quality stainless hose clip is necessary and don't use the cheap jubilee ones that have the ribbing going through to the inside as they will cut into the hose in time. And to clean just wipe over with soapy water but don't tell the missus it's her sink bowl 😬 Phil S7SVN
  20. Might be worth checking the fuel filter to make sure it's securely attached as that is right behind you or at least it is on mine which is a 1.6K, otherwise carry out a complete torque check on all bolts (personally I do this twice a year for piece of mind) including the caliper mountings. Phil S7SVN
  21. Armourall on a regualr basis will keep them like new also works well on the rest of the interior Phil S7SVN
  22. Sorry to hear about your mishap, we have hundreds of these monsters flying around here my normal approach when you come across them having breakfast on the public highway is to drop down a cog and make some serious noise!! Good luck with the replacement screen Phil S7SVN
  23. FWIW I've got none on mine and the bonnet fits perfectly Phil S7 SVN 1.6K
